6 Large scale ASON/GMPLS demonstrator Pan-European control plane network by interconnecting laboratory test beds in Germany, Italy and Spain Both real and emulated network elements with different control planes (ASON, GMPLS, IP/MPLS) and switching capabilities (PSC, TDM, LSC, FSC) Objectives Network scalability investigations, by emulating a network with a large number of nodes Control plane interoperability in a multi-domain network (e.g. interworking of ASON and GMPLS domains) Routing and signalling in a multi-domain and multi-technology environment 6

9 The UPC CARISMA control plane DCN deployed out-of-fiber: OCCs are directly connected by using 100 Mbps Ethernet full-duplex links The OCCs, built in compliance with the ITU-T G.8080, implement the GMPLS protocol set (RSVP-TE, OSPF-TE, LMP) Implemented interfaces: I-NNI (RSVP-TE), NMI-A and CCI (SNMPv2) NMS NMI-A SCN (Configurable topology) 100 Mbps Ethernet point-to-point link I-NNI CCI 9

20 Conclusion The NOBEL phase 2 project is building a Pan- European control plane network by interconnecting laboratory test beds through an IP based signaling communication network This network, including both real and many emulated network elements, will be used to verify scalability in large networks, to test the interoperability of different control plane implementations and to demonstrate the interworking between ASON and GMPLS signaling and routing protocols 20
