1 Eric J. Rozner Burnet Rd Austin, TX Research Interests Computer systems in general, with an emphasis on wireless networking and mobile applications. Specifically, my research focuses on wireless network management by designing, building, and evaluating practical wireless systems to manage loss, interference, capacity, co-existence, and energy in a variety of wireless technologies, such as Wi-Fi, Cellular, and next-generation White Space networks. My interests span the entire length of mobility networks, from mobile applications on user equipment, to radio-access techniques, to rethinking the architecture of the core cellular network. In general, I enjoy implementing my ideas on real testbeds in order to make my research practical and to also gain an in-depth understanding of the underlying technical details of a system. Education PhD in Computer Science December 2011 Master of Sciences in Computer Science May 2008 Advisor: Professor Lili Qiu Thesis: Combatting Loss in Wireless Networks, GPA: 3.83/4.00 Bachelor of Science in Computer Science May 2005 Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, GPA: 3.87/4.00 Research Positions IBM Research Research Staff Member June 2013 to Present Datacenter network management, with a focus on software-defined networking (SDN). Projects include line-rate sampling and traffic engineering, distributed host-based load balancing and SDN debugging tools. Other projects focus on mobility. AT&T Labs - Research Florham Park, NJ, USA Senior Member of the Technical Staff December 2011 to May 2013 Cellular network management, with a focus on planning heterogenous network deployments. Specifically, building a rapid channel-sounding system on software-defined radios to quickly and cheaply determine coverage areas of potential small cell access nodes (cell towers characterized by limited transmission ranges) in future LTE networks. I also analyzed social media data to help determine which small cell locations effectively offload capacity. Published one paper and submitted one patent. Graduate Research Assistant September 2005 to December 2011
2 Professor Lili Qiu. Facilitated wireless network management through combatting loss, mitigating and modeling interference, and improving performance in wireless networks. My graduate studies took a systems-building approach to network management, and I developed wireless technologies on a variety of platforms using a diverse set of tools. For instance, I implemented routing protocols in Windows and the Click router, modified wireless drivers and access point software, utilized software-defined radios, and ran traces and monitored energy on smart-phones. Published two journal papers, seven conference papers, and four workshop papers. All but one feature testbed prototypes and evaluation. Microsoft Research Redmond, WA, USA Research Intern June 2010 to September 2010 Ranveer Chandra. Investigation and measurement of n technologies for real-time, high-definition video streaming. Detailed study of loss under high-performance wireless links in a living-room environment for the Xbox team. Profiled next-generation n vendor solutions and modified wireless drivers to obtain accurate insights on characteristics of wireless loss. Microsoft Research India Bangalore, India Research Intern April 2009 to June 2009 Vishnu Navda, Ramachandran Ramjee. Developed and implemented virtualized access points and network-based scheduling algorithms to realize power savings for mobile devices in Wi-Fi networks. Detailed study of system through trace-driven experiments on mobile phones and modifications to the access point scheduler and driver. Published paper in top mobility conference. Undergraduate Research Assistant January 2005 to September 2005 Professor Suman Banerjee. Developed a system for coordinating spectrum management in wireless networks and improved spatial reuse in networks by utilizing partiallyoverlapping channels. Work resulted in two short papers. Undergraduate Research Assistant January 2004 to January 2005 Professor David DeWitt. Implemented an XML database for metadata of fixed content in the EMC Centera system. Also necessitated the implementation of a custom RPC layer. Publications K. Agarwal, C. Dixon, E. Rozner, J. Carter. Shadow MACs: Scalable Label-switching for Commodity Ethernet.
