IEEE NCA09: Paper titled A Distributed Algorithm for Web Content Replication. Projects Development of Mechanisms for VM provisioning and allocation in Clouds In this project, we designed three combinatorial auction-based mechanisms CA-GREEDY, CA-LP, and CA-PROVISION to provision and allocate virtual machine instances in clouds. CA-GREEDY computes allocation of resources and payment in a greedy fashion. CA-LP uses linear programming to compute the allocation and payment. CA-PROVISION considers the cloud resources as liquid resources and provisions and allocates them based on a greedy-based combinatorial auction mechanism. We performed extensive simulation with randomly generated and real workload data to evaluate these mechanisms. Simulation results show that the CA-based mechanisms perform better than fixed-price mechanisms and dynamic provisioning improves the performance further. Tools: C and GNU Linear Programming Kit (GLPK), run on Grid. Development of Efficient Bidding Strategies for VM Allocation Mechanisms in Clouds 2011 In this project, we developed an Efficient Bidding Strategy (EBS) to generate efficient bids for users who participate in combinatorial auctions run by cloud providers. We performed extensive simulation experiments to compare EBS with a naive bidding strategy. The simulation generates user bids from random job parameters to participate in simulation CA-based mechanism. Results suggest that EBS significantly improves user utility over the naive bidding strategy. Tools: C, run on Grid Design of Distributed Greedy Replication Algorithms 2009 We designed a distributed algorithm called Distributed Greedy Replication (DGR) to solve the replica placement problem in a distributed replication group. A distributed replication group consists of servers that store replica of objects requested by their (and their peers ) users. DGR solves the problem of efficient allocation of replicas so that the overall system cost is minimized. We ran simulation experiments to compare DGR with few of the best known algorithms that solve similar problems. Results show that DGR performs better than all algorithms compared.
5 Tools: Java, run on Grid Network Modeling Software for Biological Databases 2008 This project was developed to support a research that searched for biological pathways related to cancer genes. Goal of this project was to find genes that are distantly related to known genes that cause cancer. A huge biological database MiMi ( was used to find the network of gene interaction. Tools: Java, MySQL, Cytoscape Wrapper Generation Application to Extract Tabular Data from Web 2007 This is a class project developed to understand the basics of wrapper generation. The main idea of the project is to create a tree structure from a given webpage and identify repeated patterns that may represent a table. The project successfully extracts multiple tables from a webpage, given user parameter that restricts the minimum amount of data in a table. Tools: C#.Net Revenue Assurance System 2007 Warid Telecom International Revenue assurance system implements the business logic of cell phone billing and cross checks the results from the commercial billing software to prevent revenue leakage of a cellular phone company. This project analyzes the raw call records collected from the base station and applies business logic to compute the billing information. Bills generated from the billing application are also collected and reconciled with this information. This application has a dynamic feature of updating the business logic in the database, so that the program can run without modification and interruption for business logic changes. Tools: C#.Net, MS SQL Server TiberNet IQ ReliSource Technolgies Inc. TiberNet IQ is supply chain management software that manages real time contracts for foodservice operators, manufacturers, and distributors. It has a three tier architecture and can be accessed from both desktop interface and web browser. We added a reporting module to the existing system. We also maintained the software for more than a year. Tools: Delphi 7.0, Oracle 9i, Java, ASP, COM. Integrated Insurance Solution Delta Information Technology Ltd. This software system incorporates all businesses of Delta Life Insurance Company. I worked to maintain three modules of the system for several months. I also developed a module for re-insurance business of the company. Tools: Visual Basic 6, MS SQL Server, Crystal Reports 8.5. Skills Languages: C/C++, C#.Net, Java, Python, Microsoft Visual Basic, Borland Delphi, 8086 Assembly Language, Perl, R, OpenGL, GNU Prolog IDE: Microsoft Visual Studio, NetBeans
6 High Performance Computing: MPI, OpenMP, PBS Databases: MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL Operating Systems: Linux, UNIX, Windows 95/98/XP/7 Web: HTML, ASP, Java Servlet, JSP Applications: LabVIEW, L A TEX Others: Good troubleshooting, debugging, problem solving, and teams skills.
