1 Tribal Progress Report north dakota

3 Committed to the Future of Tribal Nations We are proud to have five federally recognized tribes in North Dakota. I am pleased to report that USDA has built a strong relationship with our tribal nations, the tribal colleges and the surrounding communities. Through these partnerships, we have assisted in their growing infrastructure needs and helped empower the institutions of higher learning. The North Dakota USDA office partners with the tribal nations of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Three Affiliated Tribes, Spirit Lake Tribe and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. The South Dakota USDA office services the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate. USDA routinely visits with tribal leaders, staff and college administrators to ensure a high level of communication and technical assistance. Perhaps the best example of our strong partnership is the investment made in our tribal colleges through our Tribal College Initiative grant. I firmly believe that the best tool to challenge long-term poverty and unemployment is education. This funding allows us to partner with North Dakota s tribal colleges to build modern campuses and provide the opportunity of a high quality postsecondary education. The work continues and it is my goal to ensure that all USDA programs are made accessible to all regions of North Dakota. Together we can build stronger communities and expand economic opportunity.
