3 MONDAY 8:15 11:30 (C ) Innovation Management This class aims at the acquisition of knowledge concerning the basic concepts, theories and instruments of Innovation Management. The goal is to understand different approaches to manage innovation processes (problem-solving competence). Throughout the whole course consideration and reflection will be made as to how specific theoretical approaches and concepts explain what can be observed in companies. This will also be supported through case studies. Objectives: Understanding the notion innovation and the general foundations of innovation management Understanding of the Innovation and Technology Management process with its components and theoretical concepts Gain insights in some specific areas of Innovation Management Contents: Foundations of Innovation Management Process of Innovation and Technology Management Specific Aspects of Innovation and Technology Management New Product Development Management of Research & Development Strategic Alliances and Networks The Role of Technology Transfer in Innovation The class has an interdisciplinary approach. It looks at economic as well as technical and legal aspects of innovation management. 4 Management Accounting FRIDAY 8:15 11:30 (C ) The main objective of this course is to gain a basic understanding of the basic concepts, theories and instruments of management accounting from an international perspective. First, this course discusses different defini tions of management accounting and the differences to financial accounting. Subsequently, we will investigate the influence of different national cultures on management accounting in general and on specific instruments in special. Afterwards, different economic and behavioural theories and their implications for management accounting are discussed. Finally, important instruments and concepts of management accounting are introduced. In the second part of the lecture the different methods and instruments are introduced and discussed with the help of case studies. Objectives: Acquisition of technical competence concerning concepts, methods and tools of management accounting Acquisition of methodological competence concerning the application and resulting problems of selected methods and tools Development of an awareness of cultural influences on management accounting Contents: Part I: Foundations of Management Accounting (Vanini) 1. 5 THURSDAY 8:15 9:45 (C ) Corporate Finance The main objective of this course is to enlarge competences in the field of corporate finance and treasury. Students improve their skills to apply and evaluate financial instruments. First, this course introduces the function of a treasury department. Subsequently, students obtain deeper insights in the main fields of corporate treasury (e.g. cash management, working capital management, financial planning, risk management) and financial analysis. Finally students prepare a term paper on selected financial topics and present their results to the other course participants. Objectives: The main aim of this course is to provide insight in the responsibilities of a corporate treasurer to apply advanced financial instruments adequately to improve students competences to discuss advanced financial topics with management and investors. The objective of the course is to obtain advanced knowledge in the field of Corporate Treasury. Students improve their skills to apply and evaluate financial instruments for their relevant professional experience. Besides students get more confidence in their ability to analyze advanced financial issues and to discuss them with management and investors in English language. 6 Cross-Cultural Leadership and Human Resource Management Emphasis is placed on developing the participants abilities to use their intercultural learning analytically with a special focus on intercultural leadership as well as International Human Resource Management. Emphasis is also placed on how the student is able to use his/her cultural abilities to cope with an international work environment. Objectives: A cardinal goal is for the participants to be able to conduct comprehensive and novel intercultural research within the cultural macro- and micro-sphere, which is to be demonstrated in class and through projects. At the end of the course, participants will be able to break free of the use of traditional cultural research techniques and have the skill set to develop their own cultural dimensions through which more precise and contemporary results will emerge. The participants are thus at the forefront of analytical culture research which is crucial for taking the cultural research debate to the next level. Contents: Establishing the status quo Creating new and individualized cultural dimensions Methods for analyzing and understanding the dynamics of international business and management practices, including their regional, institutional and cultural contexts Working with differing values in organizations: what makes some people tick differently, and how can we benefit from this?
