3 Course Descriptions RETIREMENT PLANNING The Value of Custom Target Date Funds This seminar examines the varieties of TDFs highlighting the benefits and challenges. It explores fiduciary considerations of custom TDFs with emphasis on the DOL s 2013 tips for fiduciaries. Financial advisors will learn how to help plan sponsors review TDFs and determine if custom TDFs are a better fit for their plans and how to efficiently implement them with a semi-custom TDF approach. Available for: CFP, CRPC, CRPS, IMCA, PACE, RP and CPE Form 5500 Data Mining This course provides advisors with an understanding of how to use Form 5500 in order to identify gaps and deficiencies in current plans, and how to formulate recommendations to address those shortcomings. Expanding Retirement Savings Opportunities with Roth Accounts This course provides an overview of Roth and After-tax features -- examining the benefits and differences of each feature, and identifies the types of employees who are most likely to benefit from these features. It illustrates the tax impact, both short and long term of Roth features and examines the interplay of Roth and After-tax features in saving for retirement. Advisors will learn about the expanded Roth in-plan rollover option and how after-tax contributions can be leveraged to fund a Roth strategy. The presentation includes hypothetical case studies that illustrate how a participant can leverage these features and the consequent savings results of each. Available for: CFP, CRPC, CRPS, CPE, CIMA Roth IRA Conversions: Strategies & Opportunities for Investors This presentation reviews the new legislation that affects Roth and suggests possible strategies that can help investors benefit from these changes. (use this version for non-fa CPA audience) Available for: CPE only Retirement Plans for Small Businesses Targeted to small business owners, this presentation covers the importance of retirement plans, and reviews the most popular types of plans available for a range of business types, including SIMPLE IRAs, 401(k)s, Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) plans, profit-sharing plans, money purchase pension plans and paired plans that combine the attributes of different plans (like a paired profitsharing and money purchase pension plans). Retirement Solutions for High Net Worth Business Owners 2 credits This presentation explores alternative plan designs, including cross-tested plans, super comp plans and defined benefit plans
4 Single K SM for Small Business Owners This presentation explores a retirement savings alternative for owner-only employers who can shelter a significantly greater portion of income from taxation than was previously possible with conventional business retirement plans such as SIMPLEs and SEPs. This program covers the suitability of a Single K plan for different types of businesses, and how Single Ks are established, funded and handled from an administrative perspective. Available for: CFP, CRPC, CRPS, CPE and Insurance Operating in Compliance Understanding IRS and DOL Audit Hot-button Issues and How Plan Sponsors Can Address Them This presentation discusses IRS and DOL audit hot buttons, and walks through actual and hypothetical case studies which show common plan administration errors and explains how to mitigate or correct those mistakes. The presentation also covers best practices and provides checklists to help plan fiduciaries manage their plan. Available for: CFP, CRPC, CRPS, CPE and Insurance Plan Sponsor Guide to Managing Their Fiduciary Responsibilities This presentation provides the foundational information that plan fiduciaries must know in order to administer their plan properly from a fiduciary perspective. Available for: CFP, CRPC, CRPS, CPE and Insurance Social Security: A Retirement Income Cornerstone This seminar provides information on Social Security basics, age claiming impacts and special claiming options for widow(er)s, divorcees and married couples. It emphasizes the advantages of delaying Social Security past full retirement age (FRA) and, for married couples, stresses the importance for the higher wage earner to delay in order to maximize the survivor benefit. Lastly, it highlights the importance of incorporating Social Security into an overall retirement income plan. Available for: CFP, CIMA, CRPC, CRPS, and Insurance FINANCIAL PLANNING Election 2016 in Perspective During an election year, there are many common misperceptions about presidential politics. This course is intended to help advisors understand everything investors need to know and should ignore about the upcoming election, and the truths about the impact the parties have on the financial markets. Available for: CFP, CPE, CRPC, CRPS, IMCA, PACE, RP - 4 -
5 Compelling Wealth Management Conversations The single greatest challenge that investors face is to manage their emotions in the face of turbulent financial markets. Perceptions, misperceptions, fears and phobias are exacerbated by the 24-hour news cycle, and often stand between them and their long-term financial success. Our Compelling Wealth Management Conversations program uses the power of analogy, metaphor, story and visual illustration to help keep investors buckled in to their long-term wealth management and investment strategy. It can also help them understand the fundamental principles that illuminate and guide investment decisions and illustrate where some of the tactical opportunities lie. Available for: CFP, CPE, CRPC, CRPS, IMCA, PACE, RP Art of the Beneficiary Review A periodic review of client beneficiary selections is an invaluable service an advisor can offer. At the same time, these reviews provide significant opportunities to identify other areas where clients need planning help and advice. Advisors will understand typical errors made in selecting beneficiaries, or failing to properly update beneficiary selections as well as understand the skills needed to perform an effective beneficiary analysis and recommendations.
