2 Walser Matrices Reusable Stainless Steel Matrix Bands FIRST TIME IN NORTH AMERICA! GOES ON EASILY IN SECONDS BAND TWO TEETH AT THE SAME TIME 25 SIZES FOR UPPER AND LOWER JAW SUITABLE FOR EVERY MATRIX NEED Vident is proud to introduce Walser Matrices. These reusable stainless steel matrix bands are easy to fit and place in seconds. This unique matrix system can band two teeth simultaneously like no other matrix product on the market. They even have a band design that can fit over a rubber dam clamp when isolation is critical. We may have found the new standard in matrices, said Dr. Martin Mendelson, Director of Professional Development for Vident. Walser matrix bands feature a built-in spring system that adapts to the shape of the individual tooth. The matrices are very simple and quick to place with one hand movement and can save hours of chair time per month. The matrices accommodate all restorative needs, including MOD preparations, extralarge molars, anterior teeth, terminal teeth and even adjacent mesial and distal restorations. Patients can close their mouths and bite while the matrix is in place and they are autoclavable up to 50 times. The matrices are available in O shapes for MO, DO, and MOD fillings and in X shapes for DO and MO fillings in adjacent teeth. The matrices save time because they do not need to be removed and put onto an adjacent tooth, and they ensure maximum contact because the matrix strips are thin. For regular use in a dental office a set of 10 posterior matrices organized in a plastic tray is available, and the matrices and tray can be sterilized in an autoclave. There is also a set of 18 matrices and a complete set of 25. The height of the matrix strips range from five to eight millimeters. 3 Featured in Millions of Smiles 10 Ground-breaking years of 3D-Master VITABLOCS Guide 3D-Master Academic Advances in Dental Shade Education VITA Easyshade Bleachedguide 3D-Master In dental schools across North America, students are tutored using the Tooth Training Box VITA 3D-Master Tooth Trainer interactive software. This unique program asks students to match tabs based on value, chroma and hue. Advanced training is then given using the VITA TTB Tooth Training Box (pictured here) which features actual shade tabs from the 3D-Master system. The TTB system was developed by Prof. Dr. Holger A. Jakstat of Leipzig University, together with the cooperation of VITA in celebrates the ten-year anniversary of the VITA 3D-Master shade guide. Since its introduction in 1998, the VITA 3D-Master system has increased the precision and predictability of shade measurement by offering a broader range of natural and bleached shades and a scientifically based, systematic way to determine and reproduce accurate shades, including difficult intermediate shades. VITA 3D-Master shades and materials stand not just for outstanding natural appearance but also for maximum shade consistency and reliability. These characteristics have long made VITA tooth shades the undisputed standard among dentists and dental technicians worldwide. There are good reasons for this, and it has a long history: knowing just how far VITA tooth shades were ahead of others, VITA Farben was registered as a protected trademark as far back as the 1920s. These shades were then constantly updated, perfected and extended in 1935 the LUMIN effect was introduced, and 1955 saw the completion of the LUMIN vacuum shade scale, and in 1982 the VITAPAN system for harmonizing ceramic and acrylic shades was introduced. Despite the worldwide dominance of the Vitapan classic shade system, VITA Zahnfabrik launched the VITA 3D-Master system because of an innate desire to constantly develop and improve tooth shade. Now, the world of dentistry understands more than ever the concept of the VITA 3D-Master system: shades are established in easily discernible stages of lightness, chroma and hue. New methods require new materials and products, and VITA is constantly adding to the 3D-Master system. The VM system of 3D-Master porcelains is used by discriminating dental labs around the world, and the science of measuring 3D shades is keeping track with the addition of the VITA Easyshade for digital shade measurement, the VITABLOCS Guide for selecting VITABLOCS for CEREC restorations, and the Bleachedguide 3D-Master for tracking bleaching progress USA Canada Vident Dental Technology Update /Spring 2008/ Vol 1 2
4 Fast And Long-Lasting! with VITA CAD-Temp CAD/CAM technology has revolutionized dentistry. Computer-aided procedures stand for high precision and reduced production times. With VITA CAD-Temp composite blocks, inlab users (Sirona Dental Systems) can, for the first time, benefit from the advantages of the CAD/CAM technique in the manufacture of long-term provisional restorations. The blocks are suitable for the manufacture of provisional crowns and multi-unit partly or fully anatomical longterm temporary bridges with up to two pontics in VITA 3D-MASTER Shades. In the following case example, a three-unit (7 to 10), implant-supported temporary bridge was manufactured. Teeth 7 and 9 were replaced by implants; tooth 8 had been extracted recently and the gap was due to be filled with a bridge (fig. 1). the dentist preferred the fast manufacture of a screw-retained provisional restoration which can also be worn for a longer period of time without inconvenience to the patient. Before scanning the implant abutment, the retention areas (Straumann, Switzerland) were modified and the provisional abutments occlusally shortened in order to create sufficient space for the temporary bridge (fig. 2). Fig. 2 This was followed by the digital scanning of the abutment as well as the opposing jaw with the ineos Scanner (Sirona Dental Systems) (fig. 3). Fig. 1 It was the patient s wish to have a fixed dental restoration. Experience shows that gingival recession is usually to be expected in the following four to six months following the loss of a tooth. The resulting cavities must be lined in order to prevent food residue becoming trapped. To simplify procedures, Fig. 3 3 Vident Dental Technology Update /Spring 2008/ Vol USA Canada
5 After transferring the scanned data to the inlab 3D software, the fully anatomical bridge mode was selected and a suggested design generated by the software using the tooth database (fig. 4). Fig. 4 Only small additional manual modifications were made to the tooth positioning. The design data was sent to the inlab milling unit, which then milled the temporary bridge from a VITA CAD-Temp block (size CT-40: 15.5 mm x 19 mm x 39 mm). The block material is composed of a fiber-free, homogeneous, highly cross-linked acrylate polymer with microfiller. After milling the provisional bridge, holes were bored into it for the screw canals, and the provisional metal abutment coated with a resin opaque. This prevents any detriment to the shade of the restoration caused by the metal dies. Subsequently, tooth-colored adhesive resin was mixed, applied to the dies and cured. In order to prevent the penetrating into the screw holes, these first had to be sealed off with wax. After a curing time of minutes the screw holes were ground free again, and the bridge could be removed from the model for finishing and polishing. Thanks to the use of industrially manufactured abutments, an optimum marginal fit to the implants could be guaranteed The homogeneous surface, which is guaranteed by the curing process, is easy to polish and demonstrates a natural glaze. If any further individualization is desired, this can be achieved with a partially anatomical design and built up with VITA VM LC (fig. 5). Fig. 5 If shade individualizations are added with VITA VM LC materials, care must be taken to ensure that these are not situated at the surface; they must be covered completely with dentine, enamel or opaque materials. My experience with VITA CAD-Temp shows that the veneering material bonds very well with the block material. Finally, the dentist simply screwed the long-term provisional bridge made of VITA CAD-Temp onto the implants and covered the holes of the screw canals with toothcolored, light curing resin. The provisional bridge has now been in situ for six months, and both patient and customer are highly satisfied with the result. The long-term provisional restoration made of VITA CAD-Temp has no functional or esthetic drawbacks for the patient. VITA CAD-Temp offers numerous advantages for user and patient. The manufacture of provisional restorations from this material is simple and fast. The possibility of manufacturing long-term temporary restorations with VITA CAD-Temp using CAD/CAM technology means that considerable time is saved in comparison with the conventional procedures using denture teeth or wax modeling and a silicon key. The blocks offer a balanced combination of fracture toughness and elasticity. Thanks to the excellent performance, temporary restorations made of VITA CAD-Temp can be worn for extended periods without affecting the quality of the provisional restoration. Since the composite is free from residual monomer, the possibility of gingival irritation was avoided. To summarize, longterm restorations made of VITA CAD-Temp are the ideal solution, since they are simple to manufacture, comfortable to wear and attractive in appearance. - Thomas Wischropp, Master Dental Technician, Switzerland USA Canada Vident Dental Technology Update /Spring 2008/ Vol 1 4

7 VITA Lingoform Posterior Denture Teeth The aim of a lingualized occlusion denture set up is the stabilization of the prosthetic restoration. The lingualized occlusion concept reduces lateral excursion loading which minimizes off axis stress to the underlying bone structure. In implant-supported overdentures, this minimizes destructive lateral forces on the implant. The Lingoform posterior teeth make it possible to combine excellent function and superior esthetics. The occlusal surfaces in the mandibular teeth have a buccal cuspal inclination of 20 degrees and 15 in the lingual area. In the upper jaw, the somewhat deeper occlusal surface relief comes very close to nature without sacrificing function. The ridge lap has been reduced to facilitate faster set up and reduce grinding. VITA Lingoform posteriors are indicated for: complete denture prosthetics implant-supported overdentures attachment cases VITA Lingoform posteriors can be combined with VITA PHYSIODENS or VITAPAN anteriors as required. VITA LINGOFORM posterior teeth sets are exclusively available in the six most popular VITA 3D-MASTER shades: 1M1 (B1), 1M2, 2M1 (A1), 2M2 (A2), 3L2.5 (B3), 3M2 (A3/D3), 3R3.5 (A3.5), 4M2 (A2), 0M3 (BLEACHED SHADE). 8 VITA VM 9 Margin Material VITA s NEW VM 9 margin porcelains were developed to help the ceramist with minor corrections in the marginal area and to achieve a smooth esthetic transition between the crown margin and the natural tooth. Since VM 9 Margin materials are plasticized, they must be hardened by heat. A simple hair dryer is adequate to accomplish this. Once hardened, it is very easy to remove the restoration from the die. The kit offers six different shades so the ceramist can accurately match the overall shade of the cervical area. The shades include: M1 (Icy Beige), which is a white color M4 (Wheat), which is yellow M5 (Amber), which is amber in color M7 (Seashell), a light beige shade M8 (Tan), which is a pastel brown M9 (Beach), a light orange color VITA VM 9 MARGIN porcelains are also available as separate items (M1, M4, M5, M7, M8, M9) VM 9 Margin Material: Simple to apply Easy to remove from the model Time-saving (saves one MARGIN firing) Offers a comprehensive color assortment Uses the exact number of powders to adequately cover the needs of all 26 VITA 3D-Master and bleach shades After the preparation of teeth 8 and 9. Central crown copings made of centrals fabriented using VITAVM 9. SAFETY AND EFFICACY OF VITA MATERIALS There have been recent media reports of lead in dental restorations imported from China. This has raised questions about materials used in the fabrication of dental restorations. All products for fabricating dental restorations manufactured by VITA Zahnfabrik and sold in North America by its subsidiary, Vident, fully comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Health Canada regulations and have received premarket clearance after having been found to satisfactorily demonstrate safety and efficacy. VITA product formulations do not include lead, radioactive isotopes or other harmful substances. In addition, the company has always followed strict quality control procedures for testing all VITA products. Germany-based VITA Zahnfabrik has been a leading manufacturer of safe and reliable dental restorative materials since 1924 and has sold these products exclusively through Vident since Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), safety and efficacy information and additional product facts are available at Additional documentation, including FDA device registration numbers, is available upon request by contacting Elizabeth Wolfsen, Regulatory Affairs Specialist at Vident, at x Vident Dental Technology Update /Spring 2008/ Vol USA Canada
