If a retirement plan fully or partially terminates its investment in The Guaranteed Interest Account (GIA), Fixed Interest Account or SAGIC investment option, the plan receives the liquidation value of its investment, which may either be more or less than the book value of its investment. As a result of this adjustment, a participant s account balance may be either increased or decreased if the plan fully or partially terminates the contract with MassMutual. Risks of investing in inflation-protected bond investments include credit risk and interest rate risk. Neither the bond investment nor its yield is guaranteed by the US Government. High yield bond investments are generally subject to greater market fluctuations and risk of loss of income and principal than lower yielding debt securities investments. Investment option(s) that track a benchmark index are professionally managed investments. However, the benchmark index itself is unmanaged and does not incur fees or expenses and cannot be purchased directly for investment. Investments in companies with small or mid market capitalization ( small caps or mid caps ) may be subject to special risks given their characteristic narrow markets, limited financial resources, and less liquid stocks, all which may cause price volatility. 15 Self-Directed Brokerage Account* The SDBA allows market-savvy plan participants to invest a portion of their retirement assets outside the investment options offered by the plan through a brokerage account offered in conjunction with State Street Global Markets, LLC Offered by less than 20% of small plans Access to over 3,500 mutual funds, common stocks listed on the NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ, and most corporate and government bonds (no ADP stock) An annual fee of $100 ($25 per quarter) will be deducted from the participant s 401(k) balance to maintain the brokerage account, along with per-trade commissions No cost to the employer *Full rules/details about the SDBA (including expenses & % limitations) are available. The Self-Directed Brokerage Account (SDBA) offers great flexibility to retirement investors who want to manage their own money and make their own decisions. Generally, it requires more knowledge and attention than other investment options may require. It will also cost investors more in fees.
