1 Regents Scholarships & Grants Gross Kelly Kelly at the Universities at Shady Grove Kelly Grants of $4000 Weinberg for Part-Time Student REGENTS SCHOLARSHIPS For Maryland Community College Transfer Students Number of Criteria awards 1 Earn a 4.0 Grade Point Average Complete the Associate s degree 2 Earn a 3.8 Grade Point Average or higher 1 Earn a 3.8 Grade Point Average or higher Pursue any major leading to the bachelor s degree at the USG Center 2 Earn a 3.8 Grade Point Average or higher NOTE: No application is necessary recipients are selected from the nominees. 1 Earn a 4.0 Grade Point Average Complete the Associate s degree Pursue any major for the bachelor s degree at any USM institution on a part-time basis Tuition, mandatory fees, small stipend for books & expenses provided TOTAL 7 4 FULL SCHOLARSHIPS AND 3 PART-TIME STUDENT/PARTIAL GRANTS Required Documentation 1. Nomination letter from the community college president (HCC students do not need to request; it will be included for student if nominated) 2. Scholarship Application 3. Personal Statement of the student s educational and career goals 4. Official copy of the community college transcript (HCC students do not need to request; it will be included for student) 5. Unofficial copies or grade slips from all other colleges and universities attended 6. Résumé or listing of the student s extracurricular and community activities 7. Evidence of the student s scholarly and creative activities limit of two items (can include scanned copies of artwork, photos, creative projects, research papers, published material, honors, awards, etc.) 8. One or two letters of recommendation from faculty or staff members at the community college 9. Please do not submit the application items in folders or binders - staples or clips are permitted. Please note: 1. Preference will be given to Maryland residents during the scholarship selection process. 2. Students must submit the FAFSA in order to be considered for any of the Kelly Regents Scholarships or Grants. 3. Items with the student s personal information should be sent by more secure means such as fax, direct mailing or Electronic Transcript. 4. Other documentation -- such as letters of nomination, scholarly/creative evidence, or recommendations -- may be sent by fax or by with attachments. Regents Scholars are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic ability. Strong motivation, exceptional character and a record of extracurricular accomplishments are also factors in the selection process. Preference will be given to Maryland residents. The Gross Regents Scholarships for Transfer Students are generally awarded to Maryland community college transfer students who have received the Associate s degree with a 4.0 Grade Point Average. 4 Kelly Regents Scholarship for the Universities at Shady Grove The Regents Scholars Program is the most prestigious scholarship awarded in the (USM). The scholarship awards cover the entire cost of in-state tuition, mandatory fees, on-campus room and board as well as providing a stipend to defray other academic expenses. Regents Scholars are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic ability as well as strong motivation, exceptional character and a record of extracurricular accomplishments. Preference will be given to Maryland residents. The Kelly Regents Scholarship for the Universities at Shady Grove may be awarded to a Maryland community college transfer student who has completed a minimum of 56 credits with a 3.8 or higher Grade Point Average, has demonstrated financial need, and has decided to pursue a full-time bachelor s degree at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). The Weinberg Regents Scholarships for Part-Time Students cover the cost of in-state tuition and mandatory fees for 18 semester credits per year (maximum) as well as providing a modest stipend to defray other academic expenses. Regents Scholars are selected on the basis of demonstrated academic ability. Strong motivation, exceptional character and a record of extracurricular accomplishments are also factors in the selection process. Preference will be given to Maryland residents. The Weinberg Regents Scholarships for Part-Time Students are generally awarded to Maryland community college transfer students who have received the Associate s degree with a 4.0 Grade Point Average.
