2 Introduction Introduction Kolding School of Design s Graduate Fashion Show brings responsible use and handling of clothes into the spotlight. The fashion and textile industry is one of the most polluting and resource demanding industries on the Planet. Although industry is significantly responsible for this circumstance and for bettering it the consumer is in fact very much responsible as well. Research shows that the service life of clothes, that is the period of time the consumer is using and handling the clothes, has the most adverse impact on the environment, washing and tumbling being the worst contributors by far. Consumers, in other words, are considerably responsible for using and handling clothes in a sensible way. They just do not know it. To make consumers more aware in a fashionable fashion Kolding School of Design s newly qualified fashion designers have designed a T-shirt that emphasises sound and responsible use and treatment of clothes. With the catch phrase DON T OD ON H2O the young designers wish to encourage consumers to launder less and take care of their clothes in a more eco-friendly way. In this endeavor, Kolding School of Design has teamed up with Danish T-shirt brand JBS who has kindly donated the T-shirts on which the designers have stated their encouraging message. The T-shirt design and the idea behind it will be presented at a special outdoor event in Copenhagen, Monday the 1st of August. O D D O N T SPREADS WISDOM AND T-SHIRTS! Where: Krystalgade between Henrik Vibskov and WoodWood stores. When: Monday August 1st 4 pm 6 pm Look for white T-shirts! What: Event organised by the newly qualified fashion designers, EIGHT OUT, from Kolding School of Design. Why: We want to spread the word on how you can treat your clothes in a more environmentally friendly way - enjoy free drinks and good music with nice people on a summer afternoon. H 2 0 O N During Copenhagen Fashion Week you have the opportunity to meet the newly graduated fashion and textile designers from Kolding School of Design at several events: Above all, at the school s fashion show Friday the 5th of August at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. The show is open to the public. Also, stop by our showroom at Gallery Int. Fashion Fair for a talk with the designers and a view of their collections. The showroom is open Thursday the 4th till Saturday the 6th of August. Finally, three of the designers will participate in the prestigious Designers Nest competition, which will take place Friday the 5th of August at Øksnehallen. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU IN COPENHAGEN. Kolding School of Design & Eight Out page 2/8
3 Washing advice EIGHT OUT S ADVICE ON CLOTHING CARE and stain removal GOOD ADVICE STAIN REMOVAL Fill up the washing machine it saves energy! Wash at low temperatures; 20, 30 or 40 degrees and use a cold water detergent. It is not the temperature of the water that makes your clothes clean but the laundry detergent. Skip the prewash. It does not make your clothes cleaner. Grease and ketchup: Use washing-up liquid (without colour). Put the liquid on the stain and place it in a closed bag for approximately a day. Wash it afterwards. Glue (contact adhesive): Use nail polish remover that does not contain oil. Shoe polish: Remove as much as possible immediately and clean the stain afterwards with turpentine. Blood: Rinse the garment in cold water. Warm water will bind the blood to the fabric instead of dissolving it. To remove old blood stains; let the garment soak in saline water for a few days. Put salt directly on the stain. Ink and red wine: Dab the stain with whole milk immediately. In the case of stains of dried red wine, boil the whole milk and remove the stain with the hot milk. Use eco-labeled detergents without perfume, colorants and optical brightener. Skip the fabric softener - it adds grease to the clothes which attracts more dirt. Dry your clothes outside, not in the tumble dryer. It saves a lot of energy. Put your clothes in the freezer - it removes bacteria and smells. Freshen up your clothes by airing them instead of washing them. Always wash your clothes inside out - it prolongs their lifespan. Use the correct dosage of washing powder - or perhaps even a little less. Paint: Scrape off as much as possible. Rinse in cold water. If the paint is oil based and not water based use a cloth with turpentine to wipe it off. Candle wax: Place a paper towel over the affected spot and iron it. The towel will imbibe the hot wax. Wash afterwards. Chewing Gum: Place the garment in the freezer. Scrape the gum off the frozen garment. Any remaining gum can be removed by placing a cotton wool ball wettened with petroleum underneath the affected spot. Once the gum is softened rub it off with a cloth (also wettened with petroleum). Wash the garment. S w e a t : Wash the garment immediately with an enzymecontaining detergent. Coffee, grass and lipstick: Milk can help remove coffee stains. The best advice though, is to use glycerin. Rub glycerin on to the stain. Let it soak overnight and wash the garment. Tea and rust: These types of stains can be removed with lemonjuice. Squeeze half a lemon on to the stain. Place a cloth underneath. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over it and let it dry. Wash the garment afterwards. Please be aware that lemon is bleaching. Deodorant: Moisten the stain with a mixture of one part of vinegar and four parts of water. Rinse and wash. page 3/8
