1 Beverly Hills Public Safety Activity Report October 28 November 11, Sgt. Nate Cook has requested retirement for January 29, 2016 after 22 years plus of service with the Village. We congratulate him on his upcoming retirement and thank him for his valued service. The reporter from the HometownLife.com (Birmingham Eccentric) Jay Grossman, wrote a nice article about Veterans which included our own PSO Tom Danielson. To all Veterans who served, thanks for your service. The Public Safety Department has a new website created by PSO Kevin Kowalik, please go to beverlyhillspolice.com and view the site. The Public Safety Department is continuing to follow up on the fire investigation that destroyed the home on Marguerite Street. The Fire Investigators and the Oakland County Sheriff Investigators have been working on the complaint. It appears that faulty old wiring was the cause along with old balloon construction that does not have fire stops in the walls. As a fire burns the construction is important to stop the fire from spreading by putting in fire gap materials. Older homes were not always built with fire stops nor were they built to today s building codes. This is the first house in the Village to be lost by fire in a very long time. It is important to always have fire alarms, smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in your home. Further if you have doubt on what to do in case of any fire alarm, please call 911 immediately or the Public Safety Office anytime. We answer many smoke and odor investigations and are able to get to the incidents within 2 to 3 minutes which allows us to take the necessary action. Our advice is don't wait, call immediately or 911. Officers were assisting Birmingham Police on a motorist who failed to stop for a traffic violation in the City of Birmingham. The driver continued to speed up and not stop for the Birmingham Police car. The driver continued southbound on Southfield and stopped at the 13 Mile traffic light. At this time Public Safety Officer pulled behind her and in front of the suspect vehicle. The subject then took off quickly striking the patrol vehicle and made a right turn onto westbound 13 Mile. The driver continued traveling westbound while officers in fully marked patrol cars traveled a safe distance behind with lights and siren. The driver did not stop or slow down and at one time went off the road and almost struck an Oakland County road closed sign. The driver continued into Franklin village limits and drove down a dead end street pulling into a private driveway and drove around on the person s grass and yard. Subject was then cornered next to a tree and attempted again to pull out causing the Birmingham Officer to jump out of the way from getting injured. The subject was arrested for Fleeing and Eluding count 1 (3rd Degree) and is awaiting charges for possibly drinking and driving after the blood results
