3 Introduction Welcome to Volvo Used Trucks. In this booklet you will find some useful facts and information regarding Volvo Used Trucks. There are details of our two offers Selected and Volvo Used. As well as information on the Volvo Total Offer including our Financial Services provider Volvo Financial Services and details of our Gold and Blue Contract Maintenance Offers both of which are available on all of our Selected and Volvo Used Trucks. If you have just taken delivery of your Volvo you will find information regarding the Volvo Driveline Assurance cover which is supplied with both our Selected and Volvo Used offer. It is vitally important that you read through this booklet carefully so that you clearly understand what is included and excluded in the Volvo Driveline Assurance. Your Volvo Used Truck has been inspected and road tested by a Volvo Truck & Bus Centre prior to delivery to you. That is why we offer a Volvo Used Truck Driveline Assurance package that is supported by Volvo Group UK Ltd which is only available through official Volvo Used Truck Centres. The complete list of components covered by the Driveline Assurance is listed in this document, along with all other relevant information on how to make a claim and what to do in the event of a breakdown. You will also find some useful tips on Economical Driving and a full guide to Driver s Daily Checks from Volvo s Driver Development Team. At the back of this booklet you will find a full list of Volvo Truck & Bus Centres along with a useful map showing the locations of these Dealerpoints. Please keep this booklet with your truck as there will be information useful to the dealer should you need to take advantage of the Driveline Assurance. 3

4 Volvo USED TRUCK OFFERS Vehicles sold by Volvo Used Truck Centres will qualify for one of the following categories: SELECTED Supplied with 12 months Used Truck Driveline Assurance Vehicle age will be less than 6 years old Will have covered less than 600,000kms Supplied with a minimum 6 months valid MOT test certificate All tyres will have a minimum 6mm uncut tread depth The 6 yearly tacho calibration will have been completed and certified Each vehicle will receive a 200 point inspection Full cosmetic check and rectification of all defects The next scheduled service will be completed before delivery Spare key will be supplied HPI check will have been done for your peace of mind The truck will receive a high quality valet before delivery VOLVO USED Supplied with 3 months Used Truck Driveline Assurance Vehicle age will be less than 7 years old Will have covered less than 800,000kms Supplied with a minimum 3 months valid MOT test certificate All tyres will have a minimum 3mm uncut tread depth Intermediate inspection and cosmetic check HPI check will have been done for your peace of mind The truck will receive a valet before delivery 4

6 How to make a claim? Contact your nearest Volvo Truck dealer point Your Volvo dealer will seek claim authority ** Covered Not Covered Dealer completes work ASAP Customer agrees next step with dealer ** PLEASE NOTE: In the event of a breakdown out of normal office hours, Volvo Action Service or the Volvo Truck dealer may not be able to confirm if a component is covered until the next working day. In this event you will be asked to provide a guarantee of payment which can be done easily using your Volvo parts and service account or you will be asked for other payment details such as a credit card (see page 8 of this booklet). 6

7 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is the period of cover? 12 months for a Selected Truck or 3 months for a Volvo Used. Can I extend my cover? The 3 month Volvo Used cover can be extended for a further 3 months at the end of the initial period. Which countries does this cover? The Volvo Driveline Assurance covers United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland). Can I use any repairer? Volvo Driveline Assurance repairs must be carried out at a Volvo Truck & Bus Centre. What is the claims limit? There is no limit on the value or number of claims. How must I service the vehicle? The vehicle must be serviced within Volvo s recommended service schedule after purchase. In the event of a claim you may be asked for proof of service. How do I start the cover? The cover is live from the date of delivery and is automatically loaded onto Volvo s system. How do I make a claim? Contact your local Volvo Truck & Bus Centre. For more information see How to Make a Claim on page 5. What do I do if I breakdown? Contact your local Volvo Truck & Bus Centre. If out of hours contact Volvo Action Service. For more information see The Breakdown Process on page 7. NB. You will be asked to provide a guarantee of payment for investigation and call out charges. If the fault is covered these charges will be paid for by your Volvo Driveline Assurance. Having a Volvo Parts & Service account will speed up this process. How do I apply for a Volvo Parts & Service account? For full details please see Setting up a Parts & Service Account on page 8. How do I make a complaint? A complaint can be made to any representative of Volvo Group UK. It will passed immediately to the Used Truck Technical Manager. You can complain in writing to Used Truck Technical Manager, Volvo Used Trucks, Volvo Group UK Ltd, Wedgnock Lane, Warwick, CV34 5YA. What is the mileage limit? 180,000km per annum or 45,000km for 3 months. 7

9 SETTING UP A PARTS & SERVICE ACCOUNT WITH VOLVO GROUP UK Opening up a Parts and Service account with the Volvo Group gives you peace of mind in the event of a breakdown and can save you time in arranging for urgent repairs to be carried out on your vehicle. In the event of a breakdown all operators will need to offer a guarantee of payment and a Volvo Group UK Parts and Service account could be the solution. To open up a Volvo Parts and Service account you will need to complete a New Account Application and send the original signed copies to: Credit Control Department Volvo Group UK Ltd. 12 ECONOMICAL DRIVING TIPS E verytime you pull away use first gear or first gear low split C hange down a full gear, but wait as long as possible as the speed drops O n acceleration, skip a gear when possible. Plan ahead and brake as little as possible O perate the vehicle within the lower half of the Green band M aintain yourself and your truck in good working order Y our top speed should be as constant and as low as possible T yres need to be checked regularly I dling engines waste fuel P TO should only be used when necessary S heeting, air deflectors and bodywork need to be checked CoRRECT USE OF REV COUNTER COLOURS The engines, in a modern Volvo Truck, have been developed to produce maximum fuel efficiency at low engine revs. The following notes explain how the different coloured sectors should be used to help you get the best from your Volvo Truck. The GREEN sector represents the rev band where the engine produces the best fuel efficiency and you should aim to drive within this band as much as possible. Change down a full gear when the revs reach the bottom of the green band and change up a full gear when the revs reach the top of the green band. The BLACK sector on the FM/FH and the BLUE sector on the FL/FE, is where the engine revs need to be to get the maximum braking efficiency from the auxiliary braking systems. To achieve this it may be necessary to change down by one or more gears to maintain the engine revs in these sectors. The RED sector is where the engine revs should NEVER be as this is where severe engine damage will occur. FM/FH Counter FL/FE Counter 12

13 DRIVERS DAILY CHECKS - TEN POINT WALKROUND Starting at the front of the vehicle, raise the front grill and check all the relevant fluid levels. i.e. engine oil and coolant, clutch and brake fluid if applicable, screen wash level if applicable and check the radiator, intercooler and other coolers for any damage, blockage or leakage. 2. Insert your digital tacho card, enter information and select the correct activity mode. Check that the park brake is fully applied, the gearbox is in neutral and start the engine. Whilst waiting for the air pressure to build up, scan all instruments and controls for any immediate problems and check your horn, wipers and washers. Switch on all your lights for checking as you walk round, but you may need help when checking brake lights, indicators and head lights etc. When the air pressure is up, switch off the engine and exit the cab. 3. Check the screen wash level and clean the side windows and mirrors. Check the offside wheel and tyre for loose nuts, damage & pressure. Check that the side locker is closed, check any air tanks for moisture & listen for air leaks. Check the rear wheels, tyres and nuts. Check the trailer fifth wheel latch safety pin and for correct engagement of the kingpin. Check & clean the rear lights. Check the security of the mud-wings and battery cover if applicable. 4. Walk down the side of the vehicle/trailer and continue to listen for air leaks whilst checking any additional trailer coupling mechanisms, superstructure & load security, trailer legs, marker lights, and the wheels and tyres. 5. Check and clean the rear light clusters, check any vehicle/trailer doors & number plate. 6. On the opposite side of the vehicle/trailer listen for air leaks whilst checking the wheels and tyres, marker lights, trailer park brake and trailer legs and the superstructure and load. 7. Check the tractor unit mud-wing security, wheels and tyres, any air tanks, clean and check rear lights and battery cover security if applicable. Climb onto the catwalk and check the trailer suzzies and remember to check the trailer plating certificate and MOT disc validity. 8. Check the side locker, clean the windows and mirrors, top up the washer fluid reservoir if necessary and check the nearside wheel and tyre. 9. Clean the windscreen and check the lights and front view mirror. 10. Finally, re-enter the cab, put your seatbelt on, adjust seat, steering wheel and mirrors and carry out a final check of all instruments and controls. Check and reset the blocking valve if necessary. Switch on the cruise control, if fitted, and as you pull away test the operation of the brakes. This will also ensure that the cruise control system is tested and ready for operation. 13
