WORD FROM PRESIDENT D ear friends, The year 2007 has been eventful with the departure of Mrs. Heather Bowman and Anne Racine who I both sincerely thank for their good and loyal services, the hiring of a new team and the moving of the office from D Youville to Argyll. In addition, during the year, the family grew larger; the Foundation of the CLSC has been integrated to the Health and Social Services Centre - University Institute of Geriatrics Foundation of Sherbrooke. Last October, new letter patents were issued confirming the creation of the Health and Social Services Centre University Institute of Geriatrics Foundation of Sherbrooke (HSSC-UIGS). Despite these changes, the Foundation s team stayed the course, successfully achieving its goals, while striving to reach the same objectives : to contribute to the improvement of health care, maintaining the users quality of life and to bring its support to teaching and research performed at the Health and Social Services Centre University Institute of Geriatrics of Sherbrooke. In 2007, has been raised to support our institution. Thank you to our cherished volunteers for their dedication, to our partners for their loyalty, and to our contributors for showing such generosity. More changes will be initiated during the upcoming months, which will result in interesting and important challenges. The health and quality of care provided are regularly making the headlines of news bulletins and newspaper articles. They attest, day after day, the many needs of the institutions and populations they serve. The HSSC-UIGS and its Foundation are privileged to count you among its friends. Thank you for your support, every day is another opportunity to make a difference in people s lives. Thank you! Honorable David Price - 3 -
T he first six months of 2007 were very busy ones for the Foundation. The Board of Directors was more than delighted with the results of the 2006 campaign, a record year since the creation of the Foundation in In January the Generosa Day with the Piazzetta restaurant was a success, Special thanks to Mr. Pierre Blouin our Honorary President, the staff of the restaurant and all our volunteers. March 13,2007, a day to remember, our first Adapted Ski event. Thanks to the Lise Thibault Foundation and The Elder Wish program, 4 residents went skiing at Montjoye. It is difficult to describe the joy of all these residents. The day was very special, filled with memories, a dream come true for one and all. May 3 rd, 2007, the launching of our Friends of the Foundation, an evening that honored the pioneers of the Sherbrooke Hospital, Residence de l Estrie, DYouville Hospital and Estriade. This event marked the significant contribution each institution made in the creation of the Health and Social Services Centre University Institute of Geriatrics Foundation of Sherbrooke. June 21, The John Hackett Classic at Milby Golf Club, as always it was a sunny day filled with fun, laughter and friendship, not to mention the strawberries dipped in chocolate! I address special thanks to all our sponsors and volunteers who made this day a success. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board of Directors of the Foundation, the Institute, our donors, the staff, the residents, the families and last but not least the volunteers for their support and friendship. You make a difference. A special thank you to Anne Racine, for her dedication to the Foundation. Warmest wishes to everyone and keep up the good work. Heather Bowman At the end of June 2007, Heather Bowman, Director of the Health and Social Services Centre - University Institute of Geriatrics Foundation of Sherbrooke for the last 9 years, passed the torch on to me. It is with great enthusiasm that I agreed to accept this new challenge. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Heather and to express my gratitude for her availability in answering all my questions in order to share her knowledge with me. I also wish to thank Mr. Price and all of the members of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for their warm welcome and support, as well as Mr. Denis Lalumière, General Manager of the Health and Social Services Centre - University Institute of Geriatrics of Sherbrooke, for his precious collaboration. Despite the scale of the challenges awaiting us, I undertake the new year with confidence and the conviction that, together, we will pursue the work initiated in the last few years. With your help, we will contribute to the well-being of today s users and work toward the improvement of the quality of life of tomorrow s users Brigitte Lambert
SOME PROJECTS FINANCED IN 2007 Prosthetic gardens at St-Joseph Residential Centre The HSSC-UIGS Foundation was particularly proud to participate in the creation of that green and secure space for the residents of the St-Joseph Residential Centre. Partners of the Research Centre on Aging Each year, the Foundation financially supports clinicians of the Institute in the development and realization of research projects. As a result, recreational animators, occupational therapists, nurses, physicians, nutritionists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and social workers of the Health and Social Services Centre - University Institute of Geriatrics of Sherbrooke may conduct research on situations or problems encountered within their practice, and find solutions that may be applied to their daily practice. Improvement projects on the living environment The Foundation financed the purchase of 200 adjustable armchairs, in addition to acquiring a perineal reeducation apparatus for people afflicted with incontinence. Finally, the Foundation invested in renewing dental equipment for the Argyll Hospital and Residential Centre. Elderly Wish The Elderly Wish committee never stopped this year. A total of 12 residents fulfilled their dreams. All the work was greatly rewarded when residents and their families expressed their heartfelt gratitude
ACTIVITIES Generosa Day Despite the Siberian temperature of January 29, employees at the restaurant La Piazzetta in Sherbrooke broke a sweat in preparing the numerous pizzas sold during the 5 th Generosa Day which was organized as fundraiser for the Health and Social Services Centre - University Institute of Geriatrics Foundation of Sherbrooke. Thanks to the relentless work of the employees and volunteers, Generosa Day brought revenues totalling 7 800; a record for the last five years. It is worth mentioning the exceptional collaboration of the honorary president of this activity, Mr. Pierre Blouin, Director at the Centre financier aux entreprises Desjardins de l Estrie. He sold half of the tickets by himself! Golf The Health and Social Services Centre - University Institute of Geriatrics Foundation of Sherbrooke and its partner Les Caisses Desjardins de Sherbrooke had the pleasure of organizing the popular John Hackett Classic at the Milby Golf Club on June 21, 2007, under the honorary presidency of Mr. Patrice Breton, Director at the Caisse du Mont- Bellevue. Thanks to Desjardins and the many generous partners, the Foundation raised In addition to spending a most pleasant day, the participants contributed to enhancing research on the elderly as well as on safe car driving. Thank you! Drawing of the Maison Desjardins : tickets sold The Maison Desjardins 2007 was by all means, the most beautiful one built since the beginning of drawings back in As a result, hundreds of people attended the drawing at 5:30 p.m. on September 18, 2007, hoping, just as much as Mayor Jean Perreault who conducted the drawing, that he would draw their name. Fate favoured a couple from the Rock Forest burrough, Mrs. Thérèse Ledoux and Mr. Jacques Tardif. As a result of this activity, were added to the Foundation s coffers to pursue its mission
ACTIVITIES Annual campaign of the HSSC-UIGS Foundation Upon the launch of the annual campaign of the Foundation of the HSSC-UIGS, on August , the two honorary presidents, M e Denis Paré and M e Ralph Farley, offered their personal testimonies of their experiences at the St-Joseph Residential Centre and Argyll Hospital and Residential Centre as they respectively accompanied their fathers during their final days. The two presidents greatly appreciated the quality of care and support they received from the members of personnel during this difficult time. Revenues of the campaign, , allowed for the financing of three projects established as a priority by the institution: the purchase of 200 adjustable armchairs, the acquisition of a perineal apparatus for persons afflicted with incontinence and the renewal of dental equipment for the Argyll Hospital and Residential Centre. Me Denis Paré Me Ralph Farley VIP Dinner The famous VIP dinner to benefit the Health and Social Services Centre - University Institute of Geriatrics Foundation of Sherbrooke was held on October 27, 2007 at Bishop s College School in the burrough of Lennoxville. This evening allowed the HSSC-UIGS Foundation to raise The financial success of this project was made possible thanks to the generosity of Mrs. Valérie Courchesne, Pharmacist-Owner of the Brunet Pharmacy in Lennoxville and major sponsor for the evening. In addition, over 130 people from the Sherbrooke business community, including approximately 30 from the Caisses Desjardins alone, responded to the invitation that was sent out by the HSSC-UIGS Foundation to celebrate Halloween with Pr. Réjean Hébert, guest of honour of this first evening under the Harry Potter theme. This was an opportunity to take part in a unique and festive event, animated by very talented comedians from Projectart

Auditors Report 2007 FINANCIAL STATEMENTS To the Board of Directors of the Health and Social Services Centre -University Institute of Geriatrics Foundation of Sherbrooke. We have audited the balance sheet of the Health and Social Services Centre - University Institute of Geriatrics Foundation of Sherbrooke as at December 31, 2007 and the statements of operations, changes in net assets and cash flows for the year then ended. These financial statements are the responsibility of the Foundation's management. Our responsibility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audit. Except as explained in the following paragraph, we conducted our audit in accordance with Canadian generally accepted auditing standards. Those standards require that we plan and perform an audit to obtain reasonable assurance whether the financial statements are free of material misstatement. An audit includes examining, on a test basis, evidence supporting the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. An audit also includes assessing the accounting principles used and significant estimates made by management, as well as evaluating the overall financial statement presentation. In common with many charitable organizations, the Foundation derives revenues from the public, the completeness of which is not susceptible of satisfactory audit verification. Accordingly, our verification of the revenues of annual campaign and activities was limited to the amounts recorded in the records of the Foundation and we were not able to determine whether any adjustments might be necessary to revenues, excess of revenues over expenses, assets and net assets. In our opinion, except for the effect of adjustments, if any, which we might have determined to be necessary had we been able to satisfy ourselves concerning the completeness of the revenues referred to in the preceding paragraph, these financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial position of the Foundation as at December 31, 2007 and the results of its operations and its cash flows for the year then ended in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles.
