Fucina Marinelli Vulcan s smithy) Pondasio by Malé Info The Marinelli smithy is a rare example of a hydraulic forge in the Alps that is still functioning. The existence of the forge is witnessed by a few written documents dating back to 1880, when it was bought by the Marinelli family, but it was built al least two centuries earlier. The forge, along with other forges and mills, was part of the Pondasio pre-industrial estate, that harnessed the Rabbies water, ingeniously applying the stream s hydraulic power to the forge, as a replacement of human or animal force. The Marinelli forge hosts a millennium-old heritage of technical know-how and human experience and can be regarded as one of the depositories of the secrets of Cyclops and of the illustrious Rhaetian blacksmiths. BICYCLE PATH The Val di Sole bicycle path mainly runs along the course of the Noce river, following the track of former country roads, by-roads and river bank lanes. The track is 2,5 m wide and paved with small impregnated gravel. The cycle path could be run: from Mostizzolo to Dimaro, then it follows a short stretch of main road; from Dimaro to Mestriago, it follows a short stretch of main road to Piano; from Piano to Mezzana, it follows a short stretch of main road to the Sport Centre of Mezzana from Mezzana / Sport Centre to Cogolo through the villages of Pellizzano, Cusiano, Ossana. 32 ALPINE HUTS, PARKS, GUIDED WALKS PATHS AND LOCAL WALKS Val di Sole has traditionally been endowed with a network of paths that are kept by the Società Alpinisti Tridentini SAT) and by local authorities. There is a great variety of hiking routes from 700 m. high on the bottom of the valley to nearly 4,000 m high on the highest peaks. SAT paths are waymarked by red and white stripes and arrows painted on stones all along the track and showing the number of the path, that is always made up of three figures. We remind you that you need to be properly equipped with hiking boots, anorak, warm clothes, especially when you climb at a high altitude. Remember that the weather conditions can change rapidly when you re in the mountains, and that at high altitudes it sometimes snows even in the summer. Also, remember to take some provisions with you, as well as a topographic map and a compass. Local walks - these are comparatively flat tracks in the woods at low altitudes - they are marked either with letters in white and yellow signs or with wooden markings.
