7 Welcome! Welcome! OptumHealth New Mexico manages behavioral health services for New Mexico s Behavioral Health Collaborative (Collaborative). This means that we can help you locate and access services for mental health and substance abuse. We operate across the state. We have designed this directory to help direct both adult and child consumers to the behavioral health services they need. Our network is growing fast. We strive to keep the directory up to date, but some providers may have moved. Others may have been added. Some may have stopped providing services. The most up-to-date provider listing is on the Internet at consumer/en/index.jsp. If you do not have access to the Internet, a Peer Specialist or Family Specialist in one of our local New Mexico offices can help you. 18 Kinds of Providers Different kinds of providers offer different kinds of help. There are two main types of providers: Agencies/Facilities and Independent Practitioners. See the definitions below: Agencies/Facilities A legal entity organized to provide mental health and/or substance abuse services within the scope of New Mexico state issued licenses or that has otherwise been approved by the State of New Mexico to provide such services to individuals with behavioral health issues and who is under contract with OptumHealth New Mexico as a participating provider. Some kinds of agencies and facilities you will see include: Core Services Agencies (CSA) Core Service Agencies is designated by OptumHealth New Mexico to provide a point of entry to comprehensive care for children, youth, families, and adults, including individuals and families with very intensive needs. An agency must be designated as a CSA by the Statewide Entity. Consumers, families and the CSA work together to promote recovery. Independent Practitioners A person in private practice licensed by the State of New Mexico or who has otherwise been approved by the State of New Mexico whose professional activities address an individual s behavioral health issues and who is directly under contract with OptumHealth New Mexico as a participating provider. Independent practitioners can include: Master s-level Counselors These mental health specialists have expertise in certain areas, such as substance use disorders or family counseling. Master s level counselors may be called s (LPCC), s (LISW), and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFT). Master s level counselors do not prescribe medications. Psychiatrist A psychiatrist is a doctor with many years of training. He or she can write prescriptions to help you manage illnesses such as depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. He or she can also counsel you. If you take an antidepressant or antipsychotic, you will need to see this doctor on an ongoing basis to manage your medicines. Psychiatric Nurse/ Practitioner These are nurses who specialize and are certified in psychiatric services. They will help you resolve mental health and substance use issues. Some nurses can write prescriptions. Those that can write prescriptions have a by their name. A psychologist is a licensed professional who provides therapy for mental illness and substance use disorders. A psychologist provides counseling. Some psychologists provide testing. He or she will help you work through problems. A psychologist may only address certain conditions. Most psychologists can not prescribe medicines. 19 Primary Care Providers A Primary Care Provider (PCP) is a doctor, nurse, or clinic that helps you manage your physical health care. If you are a Medicaid member, you probably have a PCP through your Salud MCO or Coordination of Long-Term Services (CoLTS) Managed Care Organization (MCO). You should always tell your PCP about any behavioral health services you are getting. Likewise, tell your PCP about any medications your behavioral health care provider has given you. Share any services you are getting from your PCP with your behavioral health care provider as well as any medications your PCP has prescribed. Covered Services Covered services are the services paid for by the Collaborative and managed by OptumHealth. Many types of services are covered. The type of covered services you receive will depend on the program(s) you are eligible for. It will also depend on whether you meet the medical necessity requirement for each service. Medical necessity means the service is necessary to help you feel better. See definitions, beginning on page 16. Medicaid and Non-Medicaid Funding Human Service Department s (HSD) Medical Assistance Division: Medicaid This department funds mental health services. They also pay for substance abuse services. These programs are for children and adults. You must be receiving Medicaid. Human Services Department s Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD): Non- Medicaid These services are provided through federal block grant funds. They are also General Fund monies. This department pays for mental health care and substance abuse treatment. These services are for adults and are for those who are not covered by Medicaid. You must meet certain criteria. They also pay for substance use prevention. This fund includes Access to Recovery (ATR). The ATR providers listed in this directory serve as the first point of contact for accessing substance abuse treatment and/or recovery support services. Recovery support services are non-clinical activities that support recovery. Children Youth and Families Department (CYFD): Non-Medicaid This money comes from the State General Fund and includes federal monies. They are used for community based services. They pay for mental health services for children and youth who are in the CYFD Juvenile Justice or child protective services system. They are also for those at risk of being in those systems. New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD): Non-Medicaid These funds pay for mental health services and substance abuse services. These funds are used for adults that are on probation or parole. 20 Service Definitions Following are definitions of covered services and the eligible populations. If you need help with any of these definitions, your Peer Specialist or Family Specialist can help you understand them. Eligible Populations Adult In most cases, an Adult is any person age 18 and older. Child A child is any person under the age of 18. NOTE: If a person receives services from CYFD or Medicaid, under certain situations or for certain services, they may receive services up to the age of 21 or until CYFD or Medicaid determine they are no longer eligible for those services. Service Definitions (In Alphabetical Order) Adult Residential Services (non-hospital residential treatment program) This structured program offers 24-hour intensive care for adults who are 18 years of age and older. It is for those with a substance abuse disorder or those with more than one disorder. This is an ongoing program. It helps stabilize and support people who are in detox. Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) ACT is a group of intensive community-based services for adults 18 years or older. ACT uses a team to provide or coordinate treatment, rehabilitation, and support services. Behavior Management Services (BMS) BMS focuses on training and coaching for children and youth under the age of 21. Because it is based in the community, you do not have to go to an inpatient facility or residential treatment center. By focusing on social skills and behavior, BMS can help improve home and community functioning. Comprehensive Community Support Services (CCSS) (Adult) These services help adults recover and live in the community. They focus on the developing skills in living alone, learning, working, hobbies, social skills, and staying healthy. They can also offer support to a person s family. Comprehensive Community Support Services (CCSS) (Child) These services help children and youth recover and be resilient. CCSS supports the family and addresses the needs of children by improving social skills at home and in the community and improving school behavior and school performance. Day Treatment Services A day treatment program is for youth under the age of 21. It offers 4 hours or more of treatment during the day. You receive counseling and learn skills to help you in daily life. Your provider will work closely with your parent(s), school, and other community agencies. Group Home These homes provide stable and safe housing. Residents have an opportunity to learn how to manage their daily living. Outpatient counseling is provided. 21 Infant Mental Health Services These services support the social and emotional development of an infant. An infant is a child between the ages of 0 and 3. Parents and caregivers receive training and support and as necessary, other treatment services will be provided. Inpatient Psychiatric Hospitalization These are services for an adult or child in a hospital when you stay over night. The stay may continue for several days or more. You are cared for around the clock by nurses and an attending psychiatrist. This service is intended for those who have a serious behavioral health condition that requires intense services. Intensive Outpatient - Substance Abuse (SA IOP) This service uses a varied approach to treating substance abuse issues. It is for those who need structure and support to achieve and maintain recovery. The program is at least nine treatment hours each week. It includes part individual, group and family counseling. Services are aimed at promoting recovery and preventing relapse. Medication Monitoring/Management (Adult) You work with a doctor or nurse to assess if medicine is right for you, and which one. Later, you can use this service to make sure your dosage is correct for you and to monitor your health. This includes monitoring side effects. Medication Monitoring/Management (Child) A doctor or nurse works with you and your child or adolescent to decide if medication is necessary and to find the right one. They will then monitor your child or adolescent s medications to make sure the dosage is correct. They will assess if the medicine continues to be right for the child/adolescent. Methadone Clinic This clinic treats heroin/opioid dependence through the use of methadone. It will help you end your addiction to heroin with the support of case managers, medication monitoring, and counseling. Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST) MST is an intensive outpatient service, offered to youth 10 to 18 years of age. It can help the youth and his or her family function better even if the youth is recovering from a serious problem. Outpatient Treatment (Individual, Group, Family, Multiple Family Group) These are counseling services delivered in a provider s office. You will work with the provider to create a treatment and recovery plan. Based on your plan, you may attend alone, in a group, or with your family. Your provider will spend a specific amount of time with you each time you see them. You will receive therapy or other services. Pharmacy Services This service covers prescription drugs you need. A licensed doctor or nurse will write the prescription. You can get the prescription filled at a pharmacy. This service is available through Medicaid. Psychosocial Rehab Services These services are for adults with a serious mental illness. The program provides community services to support recovery. Services include socializing and skills training.
