5 Additional Important Information 1. The College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services makes every effort to ensure that program profiles are correct and are aligned with current State of Ohio licensure requirements. However, the State of Ohio and CECH program officials reserve the right to change program requirements at any time. Therefore, it is imperative that you remain in contact with your advisor to ensure that you have the most accurate information. To make an appointment to meet with your advisor, call All students that intend to apply for admission to the professional cohort are REQUIRED to attend a mandatory cohort meeting that is held in the autumn quarter of their second year, or in the third year for secondary students. Following are the requirements for consideration to the professional cohort: - A minimum cumulative grade point average set by program which includes ALL college work attempted including UC or any other educational institutions: Early Childhood Education cumulative grade point average Middle Childhood Education cumulative grade point average and licensure of 2.6 Secondary Education cumulative grade point average and licensure grade point average of 2.8 Special Education cumulative grade point average and HQT area grade point average of Admission is competitive and not all students who meet the minimum criteria set by the program will be accepted. Admissions will be based on an examination of the candidate s qualifications in comparison with other applicants and with consideration of faculty and resources available in the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services. - When the number of applicants exceeds the number of available openings for admission into cohort or an internship, the best qualified candidates will be admitted. - Successfully pass or waive the Praxis I (PPST) exam. (Check with an advisor in the CECH Student Services Center for required passing scores.) To waive this exam, you must have scored a 22 or higher on the ACT or 1000 or higher on the SAT. - Complete a required Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check for review and submit when requested by program. - Be able to fulfill all graduation requirements by the completion of the 2-year cohort experience. - Cohort courses are taught once per year and are sequenced. Students repeating a course may be required to sit out a year until the unacceptable grade has been successfully earned. 3. A practicum and internship are required to be eligible to apply for a teaching license.. 4. The early childhood license allows teachers to teach grades pre-k grade 3; the middle childhood license allows teachers to teach grades 4-9; the secondary education license allows teachers to teach grades 7-12; the special education license allows teachers to teach grades K The University of Cincinnati College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services, does not grant the teaching license. Students apply and the college makes recommendations to the State Department of Education once all requirements have been completed. 6. A 2.8 cumulative GPA is required to graduate.
