1 Department of Mechatronics and Electrical Course of studies: Automation ATB Aim/Content: A special role for the functionality of modern devices and plants is taken by the automation systems, especially system design, measurement, control technology and networks. To implement automation tasks, electrical / electronical and mechanical knowledge is necessary. To teach profound, practically oriented knowledge in the above mentioned fields is the aim of the course of study in automation systems. Graduates have job opportunities in a very wide field of production and laboratory automation. All courses of studies of the department are strictly built-up of modules. In accordance with that structure the practical semester and the bachelor thesis are also regared as modules. The first 2 semesters of the study paths Automation, Electrical and Precision and Micro System Technology are completely identical, which makes it easy to swap between these study paths of the department. All study paths with bachelor degree consist of 33 modules totally including one practical module (industrial internships) and the final thesis module. First Study Part, semester 1-2: Within the first 2 semesters, the students have to learn the mathematical, scientifical and technical fundamentals. Since MECHATRONICS is considered to be the symbiosis of mechanics, electronics and informatics, graduates are required to be able to work together with engineers of other subjects. The theoretical study consists of 11 modules. Second Study Part, semester 3-7: The second part of studies takes another 5 semesters, the theoretical semesters 3, 4 and 6, an industrial internship in the 5th semester and the last semester with 1 elective module and the bachelor thesis. The theoretical study consists of 22 modules in total. The student must choose one specialisation containig 2 modules in the 4 th semester and 2 modules in the 6 th semester. In addition there is one module of 5 credits with the student s choice free elective subjects. The practical training period in industry contains at least 100 working days. It is compulsory for all students. This work involves also a written report and a verbal presentation. At the end of the main course of studies the student has to write a bachelor thesis (final thesis), mainly without supervision. Bachelor Degree Page 1
