1 Management International and Control Programme: of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases Introduction Infectious diseases continue to significantly threaten the lives of many, despite the development of vaccinations, preventive medicine and antibiotics. Globalisation has made international public health security today a bigger challenge than ever before. Newer epidemics (HIV/AIDS, Ebola, etc.) have surfaced and known diseases like TB have re-emerged, sometimes in multidrug-resistant forms. Continuous and methodological collection of epidemiological data is very important for the formulation of policies to combat these diseases. The disease surveillance and response systems of countries must be strengthened as they are key to improving public health security, locally and globally. Capacity building of governmental systems is essential. Likewise community capabilities must be developed, along with frameworks for identifying, monitoring and reporting cases, as well as implementing programmes.. Objectives The programme aims to share the Israeli experience in the identification, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. Target Group The programme has been designed for governmental and non-governmental (NGO) professionals responsible for policy and community health projects for the prevention, control and treatment of infectious diseases. This includes policy-makers, practitioners, community-health professionals, social-workers, and activists in the field. Programme Structure Comprises 15 days of training at Galilee International Management Institute in Israel. The programme includes workshops, lectures and study visits to Israeli hospitals and various medical institutions. During the weekends, participants enjoy excursions to the most beautiful and significant cultural and religious sites in the country.
