10 THE MORE YOU DISCOVER... SITE REMEDIATION ONE OF THE GREATEST MODERN DAY CHALLENGES IS TO CLOSE THE LOOP ON RESOURCE USAGE. WE WORK TOWARDS THIS GOAL WITH OUR SMART, RELIABLE SOLUTIONS FOR COLLECTION, SORTING, RE-USE, RECYCLING, TREATMENT AND SAFE DISPOSAL OF WASTE GENERATED BY OUR CUSTOMERS. Organic waste collected from mining operations can be sent to one of our many Advanced Resource Recovery Facilities where raw material undergoes a strict sorting and separation process. The recovered organics are refined, screened and converted into quality compost. With our network of hi-tech facilities we create specialist products for use in mine site rehabilitation, aimed at effectively dealing with challenges created from the mining process, including the creation of large volumes of nutrient-poor waste rock, subsoils and other wastes which need to be stabilized and revegetated. SITA s Rehab-ARRT is utilised in mine sites during different stages of rehabilitation such as landform reconstruction, topsoil management, transplanting, seeding and regeneration. Rehab-ARRT facilitates the rehabilitation process by: Stimulating plant growth by increasing organic matter and microbial activity in the soil Buffering soil ph and providing a natural liming agent, which can reduce the need for high applications of gypsum on dispersive soils Enhancing water holding quality Improving quality of nutrient poor overburden Improving soil structure, moisture retention, and soil aeration Supporting rehabilitation of pasture species and native vegetation Providing a combination of readily available and slow release nutrients suitable for seeding and pasture establishment Suppressing the need for separate and repeated fertiliser applications. Our range of organic composts, mulches and soils provide an environmentally responsible solution to chemical products and ensure nutrients are returned to the earth to promote future plant growth. 10 MINING & RESOURCES
