It includes information on scholarships, financial aid resources, and student support services. A higher education opens up a world of possibilities. OHA is committed to ensuring Native Hawaiians and their ohana are aware of existing resources to assist them in pursuing their education and training goals. Each year OHA provides funding for scholarships through its Higher Education Scholarship Programs. Please visit to access OHA s continuously updated database on resources for college students. 3 Resources for College Students 4 Office of Hawaiian Affairs Scholarships eha Through its Higher Education Scholarship Programs, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs helps Native Hawaiian students pay for college. OHA scholarships range from $500 to $4,000 per award. Scholarships are administered through the Hawai i Community Foundation and Liko A e. Applying for an OHA Scholarship? Hawai i Community Foundation OHA Higher Education Scholarship Program Requirements:» Be of Hawaiian ancestry and be verified» Be a Hawai i resident or resident of the continental United States» Demonstrate financial need» Be enrolled full-time or parttime at an accredited two-year or four-year college» Be a classified undergraduate or graduate student» Have a 2.0 or higher grade point average for undergraduates or 3.0 or higher for graduate students» Open enrollment: Dec 1, 2014 through Feb 19, 2015 To apply go to foundation.org and search for Office of Hawaiian Affairs under Search Scholarships. Visit foundation.org for details about each fund and specific requirements. Blossom Kalama Evans Memorial Scholarship Fund For college juniors, seniors or graduate students of Hawaiian ancestry. Elena Albano Maka alohilohi Scholarship Fund For Maui County residents in recovery from a mental health, behavioral or psychological disability, who are pursuing a traditional or vocational education program. H.C. Shipman Scholarship Fund (new) For graduates of Ke Kula O Nāwahīokalani ōpu u Iki Charter School or Kea au High School attending a four year college as an undergraduate or graduate student. H.C. Shipman Vocational Scholarship Fund (new) For graduates of Ke Kula O Nāwahīokalani ōpu u Iki Charter School or Kea au High School enrolled in an AS or AA career and technical degree program within the University of Hawai i Community College system. Hokuli a Foundation Scholarship Fund For North or South Kona residents pursuing degrees in Healthcare, Education, or Social Work. Preference given to students demonstrating an emphasis in advancing Native Hawaiian culture. Ida M. Pope Memorial Scholarship For women of Hawaiian ancestry pursuing a major in one of the following fields: health, mathematics, science or education (includes counseling & social work). Jean Ileialoha Beniamina Scholarship for Ni ihau Students Fund For students who are residents of Kaua i or Ni ihau Island. Preference given to current Ni ihau residents or Kaua i residents who are one or two generations removed from Ni ihau Island and to students who are proficient or fluent in the Hawaiian language. Ka iulani Home for Girls Trust Scholarship For women of Hawaiian ancestry who are college freshmen or sophomores. Past recipients who will be juniors or seniors are also eligible to apply. Rosemary & Nellie Ebrie Fund For Native Hawaiian students that were born and currently reside on the island of Hawai i. Vicki Willder Scholarship Fund (new) For graduates of Kamehameha Schools (Kapalama, Maui or Kea au) attending a two or four year college as an undergraduate or graduate student. University of Hawai i Financial Aid Offices There are several types of financial aid, including grants and scholarships, work study and loans. Financial aid awards may include a combination of these types of aid. Here are just a few of the programs available at University of Hawai i campuses that are tailored specifically to assist Native Hawaiian students. University of Hawai i at Mānoa Native Hawaiian Student Services supports all Native Hawaiian students, regardless of their major, through services such as academic counseling, scholarship workshops, tutoring, and computer access at two student resource centers. Kua ana Native Hawaiian Student Development Services KNHSDS sponsors an annual financial aid fair and a comprehensive community service program designed especially for Native Hawaiian students to interact with programs, projects and issues in the Hawaiian community. Kua ana also provides need-based tuition waivers for undergraduate and classified graduate Native Hawaiian students. Services and events include tutoring (Hawaiian language, Hawaiian Studies, Writing, Math and Sciences); peer mentoring and support; guest speakers, seminars and workshops featuring prominent Native Hawaiian practitioners/specialists; and community service projects.
