2 2 BENNING World Class Power Solutions Mini Power Racks High density, compact design General Information The MPR (Mini Power Rack) family of products can be used for wide array of telecommunications applications. Featuring wide input voltage and operational temperature ranges the MPR family support global indoor and outside plant applications. The system carrier provides the system communications, distribution interface and has been designed to support the wide array of hot-plug rectifier modules for simple system expansion. Rectifier modules Each hot-plug rectifier is designed to support a constant power characteristic typical of today s telecom loads. This results in a reduced number of rectifier modules and higher output current of up to 20% during the battery recharge cycle. The hot-plug rectifiers are quickly and easily user installed and removed without effecting the system operation. Alarm and System monitoring The MPR systems alarms are monitored via the system MCU. The MPR1200 and 2600 system are available with either basic or MCU monitoring while the MPR5400 and 8100 feature MCU monitoring only. The two monitoring options allow the system to be optimally configured to meet specific application requirements. Each monitor allows the specification of which alarms constitute Urgent (Major) or Non Urgent (Minor) alarm messages. Remote indication of these alarms can be made via potential free alarm contacts. Each system includes front panel LEDs and the LCD display detailing system conditions and measured values. 3 4 BENNING World Class Power Solutions Flexible DC Distribution Options Distribution DC Distribution provides the system DC load and batteries connections. Each system supports dual battery strings connected via the supplied fuses or breakers. The MPR1200 and MPR2600 also feature a convenient connection point for a temporary battery string, which can be used during battery services. DC loads for the MPR1200 and 2600 systems are connected using size 5 x 20mm fuses (GMA type) while the MPR5400 and 8100 utilize breakers. The MPR1200 and 2600 fuses also feature visual LED indicators while each battery and DC load protection device is monitored via the MCU. Mechanical Design Each Mini Power Rack system has been design for ease of cable management. All systems support complete front access connectivity. The distribution module of the MPR1200 and 2600 is equipped with removal, plug-in type terminals for battery and load connections and is set back within the rack to aid with cable routing. The MPR 5400 and MPR 8100 systems also feature front access connectivity including the DC distribution and battery connections via using terminal connections located behind a removable front panel. 5 BENNING World Class Power Solutions 3 Remote Monitoring via the MCU MPR Modem TCP / IP MPR Telephone line Internet MCU Remote Monitoring System The MCU remote monitoring system collects and monitors critical system information providing operational controls and local/remote reporting functions of the Mini Power Rack. For example, the MCU can perform a fail-safe battery capacity test. The battery availability test can be initiated automatically, remotely or locally via the MCU. The test is accomplished by reducing the output voltage of the rectifiers to 1.80 volts per cell. The battery is then discharged via the connected load. This partial discharge is terminated after a pre-programmed period of time. If the monitored battery voltage falls below the preset test value, an alarm is activated and the results are stored within the MCU. A negative result from battery availability test can be used to alert the field support staff to travel to the site and perform an on-site battery capacity test. This feature reduces unnecessary site visits. All important system information from the MCU can be transmitted remotely via an optional telephone modem or through communication via Internet/intranet to a central control station. Modem
