PROCESSING Trace Smith, May 11, 2011; Tyler Magruder, Fall 2012; BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (hereafter referred to as SACS) is the regional accrediting agency which certifies Campbellsville University s academic programs and its operation as an institution of higher education. Every ten years Campbellsville University is required to be re-accredited by SACS. These records cover the period from 1942 to During this time Campbellsville was transformed from a junior college, to a senior college, and finally, to a university. Campbellsville Junior College (founded 1924) was first accredited by SACS in Campbellsville College became a senior college in 1959 with the first bachelor degrees being conferred in SACS accredited the college s senior school status in In 1996 Campbellsville became a university, offering graduate programs beginning with the Carver School of Social Work. The well respected Carver School moved from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, in SACS
2 awarded accreditation in The University was recently reaccredited in SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE ARRANGEMENT NOTE FINDING AID NOTE LOCATION OF ORIGINALS OWNERSHIP AND CUSTODIAL HISTORY RELATED ARCHIVAL MATERIAL These records cover the period They contain committee reports, self-study reports, correspondence, notes, and others regarding the accreditation of Campbellsville College and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The records are arranged in three series reflecting the University s transactions and involvement with SACS. The core of the collection is in the Second Series where documents related to the Accreditation Process are located. The order is chronological in each series. However, in the Second Series, the records are additionally arranged according to the ten-year accreditation process. The reaccreditation process involves five phases: self-study report, SACS on-campus committee s visit, issuance of accreditation report, accreditation, and follow-up reports on implementation in subsequent years. Published on paper copy and online. A.B. Colvin Baptist Collection and Archives. It is not known who originally had these records. They may have been transferred from either the vice president for academic affairs office or the president s office. Materials related to this collection are located in the Office of the President and the Office of Academic Affairs records.
