1 Scholarships for Undocumented Students Scholarships for Undocumented Students College-bound students who are not citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States are not eligible for State or federal financial assistance because of their immigration status. In addition, they are generally classified as international students and therefore are required to pay higher tuition and fees. Resources for Undocumented Students Description of Scholarships Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math and Science Hispanic-descent U.S. citizenship is not required. Be accepted into or attending an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university in the United States or Puerto Rico. Be enrolled full-time (12 hrs undergraduate, 9 hrs graduate) during the academic year. High school graduating seniors must be graduating from an accredited U.S. high school with a diploma. Minimum GPA: 3.00 on a 4.0 for high school seniors and undergraduates; 3.25 on a 4.0 scale for graduate students. Major in science, technology, engineering, mathematics or a related field. Be pursuing your first bachelors, masters or doctoral degree. (Students pursuing a second bachelors, etc. are not eligible). There are no grade point or age requirements, and students from any country may apply. 4 Dream Scholarship Fund The student immigrated to the USA as a child, and is, or will be, a graduate of a High School prior to the start of college classes. The student must have resided in the state in which he or she is applying for post-secondary education. The student must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.0 or higher. The student must apply and be accepted for admission prior to August 1 to be eligible. If the recipient fails to carry a minimum of 6 credits per quarter and maintain satisfactory academic progress the award is forfeited from that point forward. Awards will be disbursed twice annually and are paid directly to the college. The applicant must complete the scholarship application. 5 Human Education Network: A Voice for Animals High School Essay Contest High school students (or home schooled) and under 19 Open to all students regardless of nationality or country of residence Check website for more eligibility information Award: $ $1,000 or ($6,500) Deadline: July 31 st, 2012 Website: ISA Scholarship Eligibility Currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program in an instrumentation, systems, or automation discipline (2 year program or 4 year baccalaureate program or its equivalent) at an educational institution in their country of residence. Two year program applicants must have completed at least one academic semester or 12 semester hours or its equivalent Four year degree program applicants must be in their sophomore year or higher of their study or its equivalent at the time of application Applicants must be full-time students in an educational institution and have at least an overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Preference for Foundation scholarship awards is given to students who are enrolled in a degree program in instrumentation, systems, and automation or other closely related fields. Applicants are eligible to apply and win in multiple years if the applicant meets ISA s requirements for reporting back to ISA on the use of previously granted awards and if the application demonstrates additional potential contribution to the field beyond that for which any previous awards were based. Application must be postmarked no later than 15 February However, the application must be received at ISA by 25 February 2011 to be eligible. Submit one original of all application documentation and ten (10) copies, with each copy stapled. Students are able to apply for all available scholarships at once; nearly 200 separate funds. Individual award amounts vary from $100 up to $3000; however students may receive multiple awards. 6 Latino Medical Student Association- Cinthya Felix Scholarship Must be committed to pursuing a career in medicine and dedicated to serving the Latino and underserved communities. Applicants should demonstrate a desire to advance the state of health care and education in Latino and underserved communities through leadership in extracurricular activities and/or membership in civic organizations. Must be sophomore level or higher at 4-year University or post-baccalaureate student during the academic year. Students are eligible to receive the scholarship regardless of immigration or citizenship status, as long as the university they attend will allow them to enroll and register for classes. Strong consideration will be placed upon financial need. Must be a resident or attending school within the LMSA-West region states (Arizona, California, Oregon, Utah, Washington) Must be a dues-paying pre-med member of LMSA-West. Winners must be available to be interviewed for the LMSA-West Newsletter. LMSA-West reserves the right to withdraw or withhold scholarship pending submission of necessary documents. Cumulative GPAs above 3.60 or below 2.80 do not qualify for a scholarship, Be currently enrolled in an eligible bachelor s or master s degree program at an accredited fouryear college or university. Eligible degrees include: all Bachelor degrees, Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Public Administration/Policy, Master of Social Work, Master of Education, and Master of Divinity. Financial need will be taken into account along with many other important factors. 8 Migrant Farm Worker Scholarship- Berrien Fragos Thorn Arts Scholarships for Migrant Farmworkers Eligible applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing further development of their talents in one of the following disciplines: -Visual painting, sculpture, photography, etc. -Performing dance, theatre, music, etc. -Media film, video, animation, computer graphics, etc. -Literary poetry, short stories, etc. -Crafts traditional folk arts, furniture, weaving, pottery, etc. Minimum 16 years of age Applicant needs to be enrolled in school Because there is no essay required, the Letter of Recommendation is very important and should address the quality of both the applicant and the intended project. A history of movement to obtain work in agriculture is REQUIRED. 9 Migrant Farm Worker Scholarship- Gloria and Joseph Mattera National Scholarship Fund for Migrant Children Recent history of movement for agricultural employment-priority will be given to currently interstate migrant youth. Scholastic potential Financial need Enrolled in or accepted at an accredited public or private college, technical or vocational school, or a dropout or a potential dropout from high school who shows promise of ability to continue schooling. A letter of recommendation from a school, community or educational agency representative with a personal knowledge of the applicant s character, educational commitment and financial need. Applicant s personal essay telling about his/her background, career and personal goals and indicating why he/she should receive this assistance Proof that the student has been admitted to the school chosen A copy of the applicant s current or most recent Migrant Education Program Certificate of Eligibility (COE). Awards: (100) ranging from $150 to $500 Deadline: There is no deadline for applications which are reviewed on a case by case basis. Students may reapply annually but are limited to one award per 12 month period. Website: Migrant Farm Worker Scholarship- Migrant Farmworker Baccalaureate Scholarship The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to a deserving student with a history of migrating for employment in agriculture who has successfully completed one year of college. This support will cover expenses beyond what the youth is entitled to in federal/state and other scholarship assistance. This scholarship is designed to assist the youth in obtaining a baccalaureate degree without being encumbered with substantial debt. This scholarship is made available through a generous endowment from a concerned individual for the education of children of migrant farmworkers. The donor wishes to remain anonymous. 10 National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) - Rubén Salazar Scholarship Fund These scholarships are designed to encourage and assist Latino students to pursue careers in journalism. NAHJ offers scholarships to college undergraduates and graduate students pursuing careers as print, photo, broadcast or online journalism. Applicants must plan to attend a college or a university as a full-time for the entire academic year in order to be eligible for the NAHJ scholarship. Award: Website: Deadline: March 28th, 2011 National Peace Essay Contest Submit application and 1,500 word essay Must be in grades nine through twelve in any of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. territories, or if they are U.S. citizens attending high school overseas. Students may be attending a public, private, or parochial school. Entries from homeschooled students are also accepted. Students must have a contest coordinator who can review the essays and act as the key contact between participants and the institute ($1,000-$10,000) Deadline: February 1st, 2012 Website: National Sculpture Society Scholarship Submit scholarship application form Submit a biography or resume that explains the student s background in sculpture. This can be in the form of a Word (.doc) or PDF (.pdf) document or a separate piece of paper. Submit two letters of recommendation. (These can be mailed separately) A CD with six of fifteen images of work by the applicant. (Look at application for more details) A list stating the title, medium and dimensions of the sculpture shown in the images on the CD. This can be in the form of a Word (.doc) or PDF (.pdf) document. This includes graduating high school seniors, community colleges, vocational/ trade schools, undergraduate, students pursuing a Master in Public Health (MPH) and students in Medical and/or Dentistry schools. 14 The Lowes Scholarship The Lowe s Scholarship is available to all eligible students within the United States, including Lowe s employees and their children. 15 U.S. Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) - Dr. Juan Andrade scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders Applicant must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student, in a four-year or two-year institution in the U.S. or U.S. territories Demonstrate a verifiable need for financial support At least one parent must be of Hispanic ancestry Recipients must also be available to attend the 30 th National USHLI Conference in Chicago, IL, February 16-19, 2012 Award: $1,000 (students attending four-year institution) and $500 (students attending two-year institution) Deadline: December 31st, 2011 Website: or Scholarships for Documented Students Description of Scholarships AAMC-Nickens Medical Student Scholarships Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident alien Must be entering the third year of study in a LCME-accredited U.S. medical school in fall 2011 Students enrolled in combined degree programs (such as M.D./Ph.D) are eligible when they are entering their third year of medical school. 16 All- Ink Scholarship Students who apply must be a United States citizen or permanent resident with a minimum 2.5 Grade Point Average. Qualified applicants must be enrolled or planning to participate in an accredited college or university program during the spring 2010 or Fall 2011 term or full-year school year Check website for more eligibility requirements Award: $5,000 Deadline: TBA Website: American Bar Association (ABA) - Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund The applicant must be an entering, first-year law student in the 2012 academic year. Only students beginning law school in the 2012 academic year will be eligible for an ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship. Applicants who are part-time law students also must be starting law school in the 2012 academic year to be eligible. At the time of submission of the application, the applicant must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 grading scale) at his or her undergraduate institution. If the applicant has not completed his or her undergraduate degree at the time the application is submitted, he or she must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 grading scale) as of the most recent completed semester. The applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America. Students, who are citizens and residents of a foreign country, even if they plan to attend law school in the United States, are not eligible to apply. 17 American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) - Scholarships for Minority Accounting Students An underrepresented minority in the accounting profession (e.g., Black or African American; Hispanic or Latino; Native American; or Asian American) Enrolled as a full-time undergraduate (12 semester hours or equivalent) or a full-time graduate level student (9 semester hours or equivalent) for the academic year. (Note: an exception may be granted if you plan to participate in an internship.) Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate-level degree in an accounting-related major. ( Accounting-related shall be as determined by Sponsor in Sponsor s sole discretion.) Planning to pursue the CPA licensure but not presently be a CPA Completed at least 30 semester hours (or equivalent) of college coursework, including at least 6 semester hours (or equivalent) in accounting, by end of spring 2012 Applied to or been accepted into a public or private, 501(c) four-year college or university located in the U.S. states or territories. The business program must be accredited by the AACSB and/or ACBSP.
