Depending on the age of the patient, overall severity of other medical conditions, morphologic spread and cell type of the tumor, different treatments are often associated with different survival and quality of life outcomes. Clinicians and patients are seeking relevant and accurate information regarding prognosis, treatment effectiveness, and quality of life. The current evidence base for cancer care is not designed to answer many of these questions. PotentiaMED s MyCancerJourney is a cloud-based outcomes and insights platform to capture, organize, analyze, and present patient-specific information to support value-based cancer care by incorporating the use of multiple centers outcomes registries, patient reported outcomes and predictive analytics. The Challenge In 2014, approximately 1.7 million Americans developed a new cancer and nearly 14.5 million Americans were living with a diagnosis of cancer; in 2024, it is expected that 19 million Americans will be living with a diagnosis of cancer. Clinicians, providers, life-sciences firms and payers are seeking relevant and accurate information regarding treatment outcomes, effectiveness, quality of life and prognosis. The current evidence base for cancer care is not designed to answer many of these questions. The evidence for cancer care comes from the results of randomized clinical trials derived from less than 4% of adult cancer patients. When compared to all cancer patients, clinical trial participants tend to be, younger, less racially diverse and have fewer comorbid ailments, like heart disease and diabetes. 3 are not designed to provide prognostic information. Billions of dollars will be spent on cancer treatments and survivorship issues. Unfortunately, in many cases, these expenditures will not result in the expected outcomes. The market is demanding greater transparency and accountability with new value-based reimbursement models, intensified payer and regulatory reporting challenges. MyCommunity is a supportive, online social networking community for users to meet, share ideas, gain resources, and manage and cope with the issues related to cancer and its treatment. MyCancerJourney is designed to be the electronic hub of the cancer patient s experience and can support the type of patient-centric model of cancer care that health care reform demands and cancer patient groups advocate.
