Existing domains Services installed by WEBppliance 3.0 WEBppliance installs the following services. ActivePerl Analog 4.13 Cygwin ISC BIND MailMax Server 4.8 SE MailMax/WEB 4.0 Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 MySQL a PHP Python Urchin Dedicated 3.3 Zope If you have any of these services installed on your server prior to WEBppliance 3.0 installation, we recommend you uninstall them before proceeding with the WEBppliance installation. Existing domains If your Windows 2000 physical server already has domains, they will not be migrated to WEBppliance and thus will not be listed or controlled through the WEBppliance GUI. We recommend you do not use services installed by WEBppliance 3.0 for your existing domains through manual tweaking of any services. This may result in improper functioning of WEBppliance. Ensim WEBppliance 3.0 for Windows (ServerXchange) Release Notes 8
Backing up data and settings Backing up data and settings As un-installation of WEBppliance is not supported, we recommend you back up any data you have on your server. This also includes any customization you have may have done for Windows 2000, or any other existing services and programs. License information You need valid licenses for using the following components of WEBppliance 3.0. MailMax and MailMax/WEB Urchin Dedicated For more information about obtaining the licenses and entering them into WEBppliance see the Online Help topic, Appliance -> License Manager. MailMax and MailMax/WEB MailMax is used by WEBppliance 3.0 for management. MailMax/WEB is used to access mails through a Web browser- based interface. The licenses shipped with WEBppliance are Demo licenses valid for a period of 14 days. After the licenses expire, some MailMax functions and Web Mail do not work. For more information, see Installing and Setting Up Ensim WEBppliance 3.0 for Windows. Urchin Dedicated Urchin is a report generation tool used by WEBppliance 3.0 to create detailed graphical and analytical Web site usage reports. The version of Urchin included with WEBppliance is Urchin Dedicated. For more information, see Installing and Setting Up Ensim WEBppliance 3.0 for Windows. Ensim WEBppliance 3.0 for Windows (ServerXchange) Release Notes 9
Known issues Known issues This section describes the known issues of Ensim WEBppliance 3.0 for Windows. The numbers in parentheses refer to the Ensim Problem Report (PR). Urchin reports will not work unless valid licensing keys are entered. To see more information about purchasing valid license for Urchin, see the WEBppliance 3.0 Installation Guide. If an IP or Name-based site is deleted and then re-added with the same name, a Windows authentication dialog box may pop up while browsing the Web or FTP site. (10685) Solution: Wait for around 5 minutes before re-adding the site. If an IP or Name-based site is deleted and then re-adding the site with the same name fails with the following error message, "C:\\PROGRA~1\\Ensim\\WebGui\\base\\services\\winvirtualhosting\\addsite.ws f(123, 6) Cannot create a file when that file already exists.\012". (10686) Solution: Wait for around 5 minutes before re-adding the site. The Web logs are generated specific to GMT. Hence, the times indicated within the Web reports are GMT times. To find out the statistics with respect to your local time, add or subtract the time difference between your local time and GMT. (14806) If an user U1 forwards his to an user U2 and the user U2 in turn forwards his back to the user U1, both of them do not receive any . (15179) Cause: This happens due to certain issues with MailMax. Solution: Remove the forwarding from either user and set another separate forward, if desired. A directory created in the domain s file system using a FTP client is viewable by anonymous users, that is, these users can list the contents of this directory. They can also download the contents of this directory. (15058) An user account configured using Outlook Express 6 with the IMAP protocol does not receive mail if sent using the bcc field. (15182) Ensim WEBppliance 3.0 for Windows (ServerXchange) Release Notes 10
Known issues If you add an IP spam filter on a domain to block a certain domain which is hosted on some virtual hosting environment (for example, Linux WEBppliance, WEBppliance for Windows), then this spam filter may not work. This depends on the way virtual hosting environment delivers the mail. If it uses the primary IP address of the server, which is the case with Linux WEBppliance and WEBppliance for Windows, then, the receiving domain will see the connection from the primary IP address of the box and not from the IP address of the virtual domain. Hence, in this scenario, IP spam filter will not work. (15756) If you add an IP spam filter, then mail sent from these blocked IP addresses does not bounce back to the sender. In effect, the senders of these blocked IP addresses do not receive any indication that their mail has not been delivered. (15760) FTP logs are not generated for Name-based sites if accessed over standard port. For more information see the Site Administrator online help topic, Services - Using IIS FTP Server - Using the IIS FTP Server. (14907) If the network settings of the WEBppliance server are changed through the Network Configuration option of WEBppliance (Start -> Programs -> Ensim WEBppliance -> Network Configuration), the computer name and IP address of the server has to be changed manually to correspond with the changed network settings. (16724) Resetting file permissions at the Site Administrator level may give an error, if the disk quota for the site has been exceeded. However, the file permissions are reset correctly, but the ownership may not be set. The disk quota for a site may be exceeded in the following cases. (16838, 16839) A site user receives a large mail attachment. The Web or FTP log files for the site increase in size. If the mail user password is changed through the WEBppliance GUI, the mail server may need to be restarted, otherwise the old password remains active for all IMAP related operations. To resolve this, the IMAP service is restarted daily at 1.30 A.M. (16030) The Remote Admin option for remote administration of MailMax is no longer available, since MailMax administration can now be done through WEBppliance. (13708) Ensim WEBppliance 3.0 for Windows (ServerXchange) Release Notes 11
Known issues After installing WEBppliance 3.0 and before creating domains, you have to enter an address for the Appliance Administrator. Failure to do this, results in invalid values for the From and CC fields in sent from the Appliance Administrator account. (16996) Authentication is required for forms and hit counters created and submitted through FrontPage client. (16179) Cause: This happens due to IIS Web Server security enforced by WEBppliance. Solution: To remove the form authentication for a site follow these steps. a b c d e f g h i j Log on as the Administrator using the console or terminal services. Click Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Services Manager. Locate the site and double-click on the site name to open the folder list for the site. Click on _vti_bin. In the right pane, right-click on shtml.dll. In the shtml.dll properties window, click the File Security tab. In the Anonymous access and authentication control area, click Edit. Click Edit. Select the Allow IIS to control password check box. Click OK 3 times to close the windows. To remove the hit counter authentication for a site follow these steps. a b c Repeat steps a) to d) above. In the right pane, right-click on fpcount.exe. Repeat steps f) to j). Caution: Do not edit these properties for any other file, directory, or virtual directory which resides under _vti_bin. Doing so may allow unauthorized access to the domain. Ensim WEBppliance 3.0 for Windows (ServerXchange) Release Notes 12
Application specific issues Application specific issues Changing MySQL root password During WEBppliance 3.0 installation the MySQL password is set to a random value. To change this password follow these steps. 1 Log on to the WEBppliance server as the Administrator, using the console or terminal services. 2 Access the command prompt window by clicking Start -> Run and type cmd in the Run window. 3 Change the directory to C:\Program Files\Ensim\WEBppliance, assuming that WEBppliance 3.0 is installed in default location. 4 Type the following command: cscript setmysqlrootpasswd.vbs new_root_password where, new_root_password is your new password. If your password contains spaces, enclose them within double quotes. For example, cscript setmysqlrootpasswd.vbs "$%^&# 123" This sets the password to $%^&# 123. Changing user password is not reflected in Web Mail In some cases changing the user password through the WEBppliance interface does not reflect automatically in Web Mail. The change in password becomes active after one day. Until that time, the users have to continue using their old passwords. The POP and User Administrator passwords are not affected and the password change is correctly reflected. This is due to certain issues with MailMax IMAP service. Documentation issues In the Appliance Administrator online help, the Resellers - Add/Edit Plans topic mentions the Save as existing Plan option. This is no longer present in the Reseller Administrator interface. (16859) Ensim WEBppliance 3.0 for Windows (ServerXchange) Release Notes 13
