1 Instructions for Updating PCI database From version 15.0, or To version New Version compatible with dataset valid from July 2010, and mandatory from November 2010 Overview and explanation The principle is that you will download a new database called PCI_db_v_16.15_Carrier. This is a complete access database but for 25 tables. These tables are the ones that exist in your current PCI database version 15, and store all your procedure, operator and equipment data etc. Those with version (but not with version or 15.0) have to do an additional step to update a table in their existing database before they do the upgrade. Here is an overview the details of how to do are explained at the end: Stage 1: ONLY IF YOU HAVE (and not if you have or 15.0), add three fields to table angiosegments. The go to stage 2. Stage 2: you start with your current database and the downloaded carrier: Current database version with modified table or or Database programs 2. Your data (in 25 tables) New database PCIdb_v_16.15_Carrier 1. Database programs 2. No tables Stage 3: You copy your 25 tables to the carrier database: Current database version with modified table or or 15.0 New database PCIdb_v_16.15_Carrier 1. Database programs 2. Your data (in 25 tables) 1. Database programs 2. Your data (in 25 tables) Stage 4: Finalise 1. Rename New database PCI version Ready to use 18/06/2010 1
2 Detailed instructions: Stage 1: ONLY for those with version (not for those with or 15.0) Check your version number by looking on the first screen of the database, top right If you have version then you need to modify one of the tables in the database before proceeding as described below (if you have or 15.0 jump to stage 2): First make a backup of your database so you can restore it if you run into problems at any stage. While holding the SHIFT key, RIGHT click your existing database version and select open. This opens the database window that will look similar to this: Click once on Tables, and then find angiosegments and click on it once on to highlight it, and then click design This opens the structure of this table (not its contents). It should look like this: 18/06/2010 2
3 Scroll down to the end of the table using scroll bar 18/06/2010 3
4 You now need to add 3 fields to the end of this list, so that the table ends up looking like this: To do this: In the first free row, left column, beneath SVG4post, type 16pre. Then put cursor in the column to the right, click on the drop down arrow that appears and from the list pick Number Then on next row down type 16try, and in next column make sure it says Text Finally type 16post in the next row, and in the adjacent column click to make it Number Close the database and agree to save any changes This is now version with modified table to be use to upgrade to version Stage 2 (download) 1. Download the database file called PCI_db_v_16.15_Carrier from the BCIS web site. Unzip it and put it somewhere you will easily find it again (e.g. desktop) 2. Make a copy of your existing database PCI v (with modified table) or or 15.0 and place this copy somewhere you can easily find it again (e.g. desktop). It is this copy that you will upgrade. Keep the originals safe somewhere else so if there are any unexpected problems you still have your existing database intact. 18/06/2010 4
5 Stage 3 (import your tables) 1. While holding the SHIFT key, RIGHT click the new PCI_db_v_16.15_Carrier database and select open This will open the innards of the database as: 2. Single click to select Tables 3. Next RIGHT click in any blank part of the tables area (e.g. here) and from the drop down menu select IMPORT 18/06/2010 5
6 This will bring up the following screen: 4. Use the navigation to find the copy of your current database (that you might have placed on the desktop see stage 2, point 2 above). Once you have found it, double click it, to bring up the following IMPORT OBJECTS screen: 18/06/2010 6
7 5. You now need to select all 25 of the tables that you need to import. The easiest way is to hold down the CTRL key and single click on each in turn. The first two are highlighted as below: You need to scroll down and ultimately select all of the following 25 tables: angiosegments ballooncombo (contains all balloon names in drop down list) centres conscombo (contains names of consultants) defaultstbl FU_30 GPletter signature name GPletter signature status Gpletter_drug name list operatorcombo (contains names of operators) Patients and procedures (contains all patient and procedure data) shapecombo (contains all guide shape names in drop down list) stentcombo (contains all stent names in drop down list) sub_table_guides (contains all patients guide caths used) sub_table_guidewire (contains all patients guide wires used) subtablelesion1balloon (contains all patients lesion 1 balloon data) subtablelesion1stent (contains all patients lesion 1 stent data) subtablelesion2balloon subtablelesion2stent subtablelesion3balloon subtablelesion3stent subtablelesion4balloon subtablelesion4stent timi flow wirecombo (contains all guide wire names) 18/06/2010 7
8 6. Then, once all these are highlighted click OK and they will all be imported. 7. Now close the database (click the cross top right of whole screen) 8. PCI_db_v_16.15_Carrier is now your new database with all your old data in it Stage 3 (Finalise) 10. You can now re-name it, for example PCI Database Version Alternatively, if you want to preserve all the existing network and desktop short cuts already set up with your previous database, you could simply rename it with the same name as the previous one. However, PLEASE NOTE that if you do use the name of the previous database, make sure you make a copy of your original database first, and put it some where safe, so that it does not get overwritten. Then you will always the original in case there are any problems later. Your database is now ready to use. You should see all your previous data within it. If you get stuck, please don t hesitate to contact me, and I will do my best to help. Please note that with all access databases, it is wise to regularly run a compact and repair routine.
