Secured a favorable settlement for our client. Directed multi-year efforts by an international supplier of fax film rolls in trademark infringement disputes by filing four U.S. litigations, involving the execution of ex parte seizure orders and extensive discovery leading to an action against the infringing manufacturer in Singapore. Represented a Japanese chemical manufacturer in connection with a claim for theft of trade secrets. Successfully settled the case before the presiding judge. Overseeing patent litigation matters being directly handled in the U.S. federal courts. Represented a U.S. subsidiary of a Japanese consumer product company in a lawsuit involving key trademarks owned by our client throughout the world. Represented a Japanese company and other defendants in a patent and trade secret litigation relating to semiconductor manufacturing equipment components. Represented an industrial light fixture company in non-infringement and related claim construction in a patent case. Obtained summary judgment for our client. Corporate & Securities Represented a Japanese trading company in an Indonesian liquefied natural gas project. Represented a Japanese materials company in connection with its acquisition of a majority interest in a concrete ready-mix business in Southern California Working with Japanese client on establishment of a nuclear fuel supply joint venture and in connection with a Swiss arbitration action. Represented a Japanese health care company in the acquisition of the seventh largest U.S. home health care service provider based in California using a reverse triangular merger in acquiring all ownership interest in the limited partnership. Assisting major U.S. pharmaceutical client on the sale of a Japanese business unit as part of a multibillion dollar sale of a worldwide division. Representing client in connection with the sale of a pharmaceutical product to a Japanese company. Represented Japanese petrochemical manufacturers in the formation of a three-party joint venture company in Texas with a U.S. competitor for the manufacture and marketing of rubber additive products. Advised a U.S. subsidiary of a Japanese tire manufacturer in establishing a multi-billion-dollar credit line from a Japanese bank. Litigation Represented a Japanese industrial company in lawsuits and insurance issues arising from the 2010 Gulf oil spill. Represented a Japanese electronics company in an antitrust lawsuit involving liquid crystal display panels. Resolved a dispute between a Japanese technology company against a major Internet search provider by obtaining a temporary restraining order and a preliminary injunction. Represented a major Japanese electronics manufacturer in twin nationwide class actions claiming more than $200 million in damages for allegedly false representation of the battery life of notebook computers. Represented a client in a lawsuit in Japan against former employees for breach of fiduciary duty. Represented a Japanese automotive parts manufacturer in connection with a claim for reimbursement of recall-related costs. Successfully settled the matter through mediation. Energy & Infrastructure Projects Representing a Japanese petrochemicals company in connection with the establishment and operation of a multibillion dollar refining and petrochemicals plant in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia. Representing a Japanese trading house on the development of an LNG project in the U.S. Representing a Japanese oil & gas company on an enhanced oil recovery project in the Middle East. Representing a Japanese trading house on its investment in the chemicals sector in India. Representing a Japanese oil & gas company in relation to the Macondo Gulf of Mexico oil spill incident, limiting its exposure in one of the largest multi-district litigation proceedings in history.
