This program will accept a total of thirty (30) interns each year in the Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) concentration. The program will start in July and will end in May. This dietetic internship program allows interns to complete a minimum of 1,200 hours of supervised dietetic practice within a ten-month period. This program is currently granted accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), 120 South Riverside, Plaza Suite 2000, Chicago, IL, , (telephone) X Its purpose is to prepare graduates to be eligible to compete and pass the National Registration Examination for Dietitians. On a case by case basis extreme circumstances with a written request, the program can be extended to a maximum of 22 months with approval from the program director, program committee with final approval from the chair of the committee. There will be an additional fee of $ per quarter. Interns wishing to adjust their rotation schedule must submit an official letter of request to the program director. They must include a plan detailing how they wish to complete their rotations, including beginning and ending times and hours of availability per week, month, or quarter. 2 Interns may receive credit for previous experience based on approval by the internship director. Credit hours will be awarded based on job descriptions, length of experience, and a letter of recommendation by the immediate supervisor. The number of credit hours granted is based on the hours listed in the Suggested Rotation Schedule in the Number of Practicum Hours. Program Mission Nutrition Ink Dietetic Internship Program provides a quality education to graduates in meeting and maintaining standards of excellence by working with people of various racial/ethnic/backgrounds, and demonstrate knowledge and practical skills to become competent and productive entry-level Registered Dietitians/Nutritionists. Program Goals and Outcomes Goal 1: Prepare interns to become competent entry-level dietitians. A retention rate of at least 90% is maintained until program completion over the next 5 years. Interns express 90% or better satisfaction rate with program director, preceptors, and rotations. At the conclusion of each rotation, at least 90% of preceptors confirm adequate performance of interns. At least 90% of interns will pass program exams with a score of 75% or better. At least 80% of interns who successfully complete the program pass the registration examination within the first years of graduation. At least 90% of interns who pass the registration examination obtain job placement in the dietetics field within one year. At least 90% of the graduates confirm adequate training for their career in dietetics. At least 90% of the employers confirm that Nutrition Ink graduates have adequate foundation skills to perform well in the field of dietetics. Goal 2: Provide culturally sensitive entry-level dietitians. At least 80% of interns score 2 (average performance) or better on the preceptor evaluation of competency to work with clients of various ethnic/cultural backgrounds. At least 80% of the employers of Nutrition Ink Dietetic Internship Program graduates confirm that they are competent to work with clients of various ethnic/cultural backgrounds. Eligible Applicants Applicant with a bachelor or master or doctoral degree in Nutrition or related degree with a verification statement with a minimum of 3.0 overall Science GPA and 3.0 DPD GPA Admission Requirements All interns must complete the following core requirements before they will be considered and be formally admitted into the program: Apply through DICAS. Discuss experiences that have helped to prepare you for your career, What are your short-term and long-term goals? What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement? Any other relevant information that may be helpful in evaluation of your application Word limit Please note that DICAS will not be available until December 1 st. DICAS applications must be submitted by February 15 th. Application fees for DICAS are $40.00 for the first application and $20.00 for each additional application. Register for matching with D&D Digital. NIDIP will participate in the Spring 2016 D&D Digital Online Dietetics Internship Matching Service for the school year. Information for D&D Digital can be found at The deadline for registering with D&D digital is February 15 th. There is a $50.00 fee for D&D Digital services paid to D&D Digital. After Intern Applicant has been matched with NIDIP the following is required to send to NIDIP: Official transcript from the university and/or colleges attended as evidence of Baccalaureate degree from an accredited University with an overall GPA of 3.0 and DPD GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0. Interns with GPA less than 3.0 may be required to re-take some classes as per discretion of program director. Verification statement from an accredited dietetics program (interns with Verification Statement older five years may be required to take additional refreshment course as per discretion of the Internship Director. Intern Chosen Site Preferences (interns must submit the proposed of rotation sites using the form provided) Minimum requirements of the preceptors include: Preceptor must be a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (A.N.D.) or other qualified professional. 4 Preceptor must be able to document appropriate continuing education for the previous two years. Preceptor must have adequate time to provide required supervision of the intern. Primary preceptor must be employed full-time wherever she/he is employed. Definition of a primary preceptor is that individual who will keep a file of the interns, who will affirm the hours of practice the intern completes, and who will maintain appropriate contact with the Program Director and the intern. Minimum requirements of the sponsoring facilities include: The facility must be accredited by TJC or the State. Any facility at which the intern would complete 40 hours or more of practice experience must have a preceptor available on staff. Any facility at which the intern would complete more than one week must have a signed Affiliation Agreement. Any facility at which the intern would complete more than two weeks must have Forms 2 and 3 of Educational Plan by Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Any facility, at which the intern would complete more than one week rotation, must have sufficient educational resources to support an intern s educational needs such as computer or available space for interns to work on their assignments. If one facility is unable to provide all the required Nutrition Ink Dietetic Internship rotations/experiences, then the intern needs an alternate facility to provide the competencies and experiences required by the ACEND. Choosing sponsored facilities: Securing sponsoring facilities and preceptors is the applicants responsibility. Program director will be available to give guidance and work together to obtain approval for the intern s chosen sites after admission to Nutrition Ink Dietetic Internship Program. Interns need to take responsibility in designing their own rotations scheduling with the approval of the prospective facilities and Program Director. Assessment of Prior Learning NIDIP has established specific guidelines for students regarding credit for prior learning, including program specific limitations and documentation needed. Assigning credit for prior learning: When the requirements listed in the table are met, the intern will be granted credit equivalent to the number of hours required for that rotation as stated in the Suggested Rotation Schedule. The required documentation must be provided along with application to the program. Credit will be assigned during the admissions process. Interns can obtain up a maximum of 25% (300 hours) of their required 1,200 hours through prior learning/experience completed within the last 5 years. 5 Minimum requirements of the supervisors Length of Experience Competency Skills/Type of competency requirements as stated below: The facility must be accredited by TJC or the State Any facility at which the intern would receive prior learning credit hours must have a qualified supervisor (see Minimum requirements of the supervisors, Form 3). The facility must complete CDR Educational Plan Form 3 Supervisor must be a Registered Dietitian and be a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or other qualified professional. Supervisor must be able to document appropriate continuing education for the previous two years. The supervisor must complete CDR Educational Plan Form 2 A minimum of six months employment, at least 20 hours per week, in the emphasis area of the rotation. Interns must demonstrate mastery of all the competency skills of the supervised practice curriculum for the specific rotation for which they are seeking prior learning credit; if any of the competency skills have not been met during employment, the prospective intern must complete the lacking competencies through NIDIP rotation experience. Signed Supervised Practice Curriculum/ Competencies Policy for Issuing Supervised-Practice Verification Statement Satisfactorily complete 1200 rotation hours (see Suggested Rotation Schedule) Meet performance standards and receive passing grades from all preceptors and on all unit exams. Maintain professional and ethical standards as outlined in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Code of Ethics. Page 5 of 8

6 Pass the Exit Examination. Interns will be provided with a signed verification statement after completion of all program requirements TUITION REIMBURSEMENTS If an intern decides not to enter the program at least one month before the program starts, 100% tuition is reimbursed. There is no tuition refund if withdrawal/dismissal occurs after this time. If the intern plans to attend and is allowed to return the following year, then the intern is considered as a new applicant. EXPENSES FOR ORIENTATION Interns are responsible for the transportation to and from the Orientation site. Meals during orientation will cost $ 200. All interns are required to stay within a 30 mile radius from the orientation site/nutrition ink office in Banning, CA during orientation. Interns who wish to have a roommate during orientation can contact program director for this arrangement. Program director and Human Resource Director will provide local housing information to all other interns. Interns will be requested to share their arrival and departure times. Internship program director will share this information with the class for the sharing rental car/transportation purposes. FINANCIAL INFORMATION No federal grants or aid are available at Nutrition Ink Dietetic Internship Program. Scholarships may be available from corporations, community or civic groups, religious organizations, the Page 6 of 8

7 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the California Dietetic Association. Scholarship eligibility criteria are usually published in the September issue of the A.N.D. Journal. CAREER PLANNING & PLACEMENT Program director and Nutrition Ink Human Resources manager will be available to assist graduates in attaining their career objectives. Services include: - Career counseling. - Workshops presentations - Education job fair, Career Expo., and special events - Job-listing service, which provides current information about specific employment opportunities. - Employer information tables and sessions - On facility interviews and recruitment - Monstertrak and Interviewtrak - Resume critiques (in person and on-line) and mock interviews - Interest assessment testing - Career Resources Library and Computer lab with access to internet job searches - Employer files and research NIDIP will prepare outcome data measuring achievement of program objectives such as, yearly interns retention and completion rate (90%), registration examination first time passing rate (80%), first year job placement rate (90%), employers satisfaction rate to program graduates and interns satisfaction rate to the internship program (90%) will be available for interns, prospective interns, and the public. A statement in the intern handbook will indicate that outcomes data is available on request. A statement on the Nutrition Ink s website: will indicate to interns, prospective interns and the public that outcomes date is available upon request. ADMISSIONS OFFICE Information on immigration procedures and Federal Regulations are available through the Nutrition Ink International Student Services. GRADUATION A post-baccalaureate certificate of completion and a pin will be presented at the Pinning Ceremony for graduates. Proper attire for the graduation ceremony is professional attire and a lab coat. Interns are encouraged to invite family, friends, and preceptors to celebrate this important event.
