2 JUNOS SPACE Services Juniper Networks Announces A New Suite Of DATACENTRE Applications Juniper Networks announces (May 2010) a new suite of DATACENTRE applications. The 4 new software applications are designed to; Accelerate provisioning, management and support of Juniper networking equipment Help businesses dramatically lower the cost of datacentre operations Enhance user experiences through improved service delivery, reliability and security Enable rapid network planning and troubleshooting Reduced cost and time-to-resolution by eliminating time-consuming manual operations Cut the time spent per case or escalation dramatically Enable IT managers to orchestrate the automation and security of networks from a single user-oriented management interface: These new applications are built upon JU- NOS SPACE which Juniper introduced last October as an industry-first open development and deployment platform for network applications; together with the JUNOS and JUNOS PLUSE client software. Background JUNOS SPACE enables customers and third-party developers to create specialised applications that simplify network operations, automate support and accelerate service delivery; providing an open cross-network software platform that allows customers to directly program multiple layers of their networks for rich user experiences, smart economics and fast time to market. JUNOS SPACE already ships with three existing applications from Juniper; 1. Network Activate, which enables customers to quickly create and activate services, including activation of VPN services up to 10 times faster than competitive products 2. Route Insight, which provides DVR-like recording and playback capability to plan, simulate and troubleshoot MPLS networks 3. Service Now, which speeds the resolution of service issues by having Juniper systems call Juniper support experts with troubleshooting data and details, saving valuable time for both customers and service technicians DATACENTRE SPACE Initiatives Juniper Virtual Control The first open, web-based application to accelerate virtual server deployments, Virtual Control (expected availability in Q3) enables network administrators to manage not just physical networks but also virtual networks - from a common orchestration interface. This minimises errors, reduces operational complexity and cuts costs while delivering on the promise of the virtualised datacentre. To enable Virtual Control, Juniper

Juniper Ethernet Design A unified Ethernet management application that enables the datacentre or campus network to dial up or down as needed in response to the needs of applications and users. This includes; Automating configuration, visualisation, monitoring, administration and protection of large-scale switch and router networks. Ethernet Design (available now) enables an administrator to deploy and manage thousands of network devices as easily as a single device. Juniper Service Insight A new software-and-services application (expected availability in Q3) that delivers unmatched proactive detection, diagnosis and resolution of network performance issues. Juniper Security Design A new software application (expected availability in Q2) that allows point-andclick turn-up of both security devices and services (such as firewall, NAT, and VPN) with minimal human intervention while meeting stringent compliance mandates. Security Design s unique policy abstraction techniques mean network administrators, not security experts, can manage user rule sets and deploy security services. Juniper Outlines Architecture to Simplify Datacentre Networks Juniper is introducing new capabilities that will help customers simplify, automate and secure their enterprise and datacentre networks, while providing a strong network foundation to manage and deliver cloud services. Juniper s new datacentre network architecture will allow customers to flatten and simplify legacy datacentre networks, using Juniper s breakthrough Virtual Chassis fabric technology to reduce from three to two layers today, and then collapse to one layer via Juniper s Project Stratus fabric in the future. By applying Juniper s Virtual Chassis fabric technology to the access layer, Juniper eliminates the need for aggregation a primary source of complexity in the datacentre network and can reduce the number of switch interactions by up to 99 percent compared to legacy three-layer networks. It also improves application performance by reducing latency up to 77 percent compared to legacy threelayer networks. Legacy datacentre networks are inherently complex, and they often force an unacceptable trade-off between user experience and economics, said David Yen, executive vice president and general manager, Fabric and Switching Technologies Business Group, Juniper Networks. Adding transparency to the user experience while cutting total operating and maintenance costs is a critical need in the marketplace, said Manoj Leelanivas, executive vice president and general manager of Junos Ready Software at Juniper Networks. Our new automated software and services help eliminate complexities, streamline operations and improve management controls for a better network. VMware Collaboration: To enable Virtual Control, Juniper announced a new collaboration with VMware that takes advantage of their open APIs to achieve seamless orchestration across both physical and virtual network elements. Working together with VMware vsphere TM, Juniper Virtual Control is expected to improve business agility by accelerating server virtualisation deployments. Prior to the arrival of Virtual Control there has been no simple, automated and open solution to synchronize physical and virtual networks. Customers want an open environment with choice and flexibility rather than proprietary lock-in, said Parag Patel, vice president, Global Strategic Alliances, VMware. 5 Juniper s Virtual Control Delivers Dynamic Security for Datacentres and VMware customers that provides collaborative management between VMware and Junos Space Virtual Control The Juniper Virtual Control application takes advantage of the open APIs in VMware vsphere TM to achieve seamless orchestration across both physical and virtual network elements. The result is a faster and simpler operations environment that reduces human errors and saves time and money. Network managers often lack access to the virtual switch, and if they need multiple tools to manage physical and virtual networks, it naturally creates obstacles to service creation and streamlined operations, said Zeus Kerravala, distinguished research fellow with Yankee Group. With Junos Space as a platform combined with Juniper s new automation applications, administrators can quickly improve datacentre performance, while lowering the overall complexity and cost of implementing and managing virtual environments. Security Plays A Critical Role For All Datacentre Deployments Today s datacentres must secure against sophisticated threats based on behavioural, application specific and accessbased characteristics across a broad range of virtualised datacentre assets. Secure access solutions for datacentres must enforce policies based on a variety of factors, including user identity and role, as well as endpoint type and state. In addition, with the advent of virtualisation to increase capacity and system utilisation, companies are moving large amounts of data between hosts to another to build distributed applications across an elastic pool of server resources. SRX Series Adding to the growing client to server traffic, these changes will drive a much higher capacity of traffic flow from server to server raising the need for greater and more dynamic security. Juniper s dynamic security model in the SRX Series enables enterprises to dynamically allocate security resources such as firewalling and IPS. These resources secure the shifting traffic flows all from within a single platform which can scale to over 120Gbps and can be managed as a single services gateway. AppTrack Juniper is the first to deliver largescale, application policy enforcement and further expands its capabilities for the SRX Series with new AppTrack software. Building on Juniper s recently announced AppSecure suite of applications, AppTrack software provides; Tight services integration that enables application-level visibility and control for improved data flows Application identification information to the IPS session log. Juniper s AppSecure software, which provides distributed denial-of-service prevention for the SRX Series; Expanded Switching & Routing Portfolio Initiatives Ex Juniper s new routers and 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches, announced today, deliver up to eight-fold improvements in network performance and provide a year-long roadmap for converging network protocols and reducing capital expenditures by up to 35 percent. Juniper s switching portfolio now includes the new ERX 4500 Ethernet switch, which is the first fixed Junos based switch for 10 GbE networks, and new high-density 10GbE EX8200 line cards in addition to the existing EX4200 switches that include Virtual Chassis for 1 GbE networks. Available today, the EX4500 switch supports up to GbE interfaces, consumes 44 percent less power and reduces total cost of ownership by up to 22 percent over competing platforms. The EX4500 switch will add support for Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet

6 Juniper Announces New EX GB Switch and EX XS Line Card EX4500 (FCoE) expected in second half of the year. Expected in early 2011, the EX4500 switch is on track to add support for Virtual Chassis fabric technology via software and hardware upgrades. The EX4500 is expected to also interoperate with existing EX4200 in the same Virtual Chassis, allowing customers to mix 1 GbE and 10 GbE attached devices within the same fabric. Planned for availability in Q3 2010, the new EX XS line card brings 10 GbE to the access layer for end-of-row configurations. The new line card will deliver 25 percent greater density per chassis and consumes half the power of competing platforms, reducing rack space and management costs. The EX8200 is expected to add Virtual Chassis support in early Virtual Chassis will help Juniper customers consolidate devices, interconnections and architectural layers in both datacentre and campus environments. With the new 40-port line card, the EX8200 with Virtual Chassis technology will enable a common fabric of more than GbE ports. Juniper also announced general availability of its MX80 3D routers, which enable smaller datacentres and remote locations to deliver enterprise services up to eight times faster than competitors. Originally announced as part of the MX 3D family in October 2009, Juniper s MX80 3D is a powerful 3.5 edge router that promises to drive down datacentre capital and operations expenditures by eliminating complex spanning tree and bottlenecks from scaling. The MX80 plans to add support for Virtual Chassis as a separate license, expected in the second half of 2011, allowing datacentres to extend virtualisation and link network resources together to create more efficient and agile IT infrastructures. The transition to highly virtualised datacentres enables organisations to create the optimal balance between costs and innovation, said Cindy Borovick, vice president, Datacentre Networks, IDC. Juniper s new routers, switches and architecture provide a path for Juniper to deliver a simplified, trusted, rapidly provisioned datacentre network.
