2 2 APPLICATION PROCEDURES There is one step now to the application process. Please apply using the new graduate college online application: When asked to choose the program area, you will select Master of Science in Teaching, Learning, and Leadership with an option in Mathematics/Science Education. For additional information on the application process, go to: The following items are required for a complete application and are uploaded during the application process: 1) Resume/CV Your resume/vita should include at minimum: educational background, professional experience, professional awards and honors, publications (if any), professional service, and references. 2) Statement of goals Your statement of goals should include your reasons for pursuing a master s degree and why this degree will help you with your career goals in approximately 500 words. Your statement of goals. This is the same goals statement as the one included in the survey you completed in part b. 3) Official transcripts Submit all official transcripts from all institutions of higher education directly to the Graduate College. (Note: A minimum grade point average in graduate coursework of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale is required.) Note: Special students can apply no more than 9 graduate hours to a degree program. Note: Once admitted to the program you should download the STCL Graduate Student Handbook at: International applicants must also submit TOEFL scores if English is a second language. Additionally, the program requires the following to be completed during the application process 1. Your responses to a set of questionnaires that will be used for program evaluation and as tools of reflection for you. Please go to and complete the OEMS Admission Survey. This will take you about an hour.
3 At the end of this document is a copy of the open-ended questions that are a part of the questionnaire in case you want to write up your responses prior to logging onto the survey. Please be thoughtful and thorough with your responses Complete your application for admission to the professional education unit at OSU. You will need to have an electronic copy of your current teaching certificate to upload during the application process. 4 4 PROGRAM AREA GOALS STATEMENT The goal of the program is to facilitate educators in becoming highly qualified elementary specialists to serve PK-6 schools in effective and fulfilling ways. The Master of Science (MS) in Teaching, Learning and Leadership (TLL) is designed to support candidates as they deepen their 1) PK-8 mathematics content knowledge, 2) specialized content knowledge needed to understand and support student learning of elementary mathematics, 3) foundational understanding of pedagogical content knowledge, 4) ability to be an effective mathematics leader who is skilled in planning, developing, and implementing, high quality instruction in mathematics, and 5) ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate professional development through mentoring, coaching, and consultation with colleagues. The program faculty seeks to recruit individuals who will profit from such degree program goals, make significant contributions to educational organizations, and demonstrate the potential for: individual growth fostering learning-centered environments leadership advocating education Goals statement should be approximately 500 words (3000 characters) and should indicate your goal of obtaining certification as an elementary mathematics specialist. Your statement of goals should include your reasons for pursuing a master s degree and why this degree will help you with your career goals in approximately 500 words (be sure to indicate you are pursuing certification as an Elementary Mathematics Specialist).
