Phone/ /3190 References: (under construction) PROGRAM MISSION: Program Mission: To prepare students for increasing levels of responsibility in industry and business management with focus on the areas of Quality Systems development, Industrial Systems Management, Six-Sigma quality, as well as ISO and TL 9000 quality system standards, through a combination of theoretical and analytical techniques with practical management and communication skills. PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs): PEOs should be aligned with the Program Mission Program Educational Objectives PEO 1 PEO 2 PEO 3 PEO 4 PEO 5 List PEOs A strong foundation beyond the undergraduate level in their chosen discipline as well as in mathematics and statistics, to successfully compete for technical quality management positions in the local, national and global industry and service sectors, advance in their current position, or pursue doctoral studies. Professional and lifelong learning skills to be able to apply and extend theory to solve practical contemporary quality management problems. The expertise necessary to design and implement quality control systems in a range of applications in industry and business with particular focus on high technology manufacturing, health care delivery, and biomedical services and industries. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and comprehend technical documents. Think and work independently to perform design and in-depth analysis in solving open-ended quality assurance challenges. Recognize research priorities and benchmark research studies in their technical content areas of interest. 3. Differentiate among the common research methodologies with respect to their applicability, usage, advantages, and disadvantages. 4. Outline research procedures and methods that are practical, replicable, and theoretically sound. 5. Write an acceptable précis (research project proposal). 6. Critically evaluate research done by others, being able to identify both strengths and weaknesses in design. 7. Use the principles of validity and reliability in analyzing and constructing research. 8. Apply accepted ethical practices to their research efforts. 9. Utilize statistical techniques to analyze research data. Tech 230: Six-Sigma and Continuous Improvement Systems Management 1. Define 6σ, what it is and where it is used. Select appropriate mathematical models to predict, control-, analyze, and improve engineering systems reliability 4. Design and implement reliability-related programs and organizational management to ensure acceptable quality functions 5. Evaluate control techniques and testing procedures pertinent to systems reliability Tech 232: Advanced Statistical Process Control 1. Describe the fundamental notions behind variation from management and technical perspectives 2. Describe the language and compute the statistics associated with SPC 3. Identify relevant data and how to gather, analyze and present them in efficient ways 4. Identify the tools used in identifying and solving problems associated with processes Tech 233: Design and Analysis of Experiments 1. Identify problems or potential problems in a given process 2. Plan and conduct experimental designs 3. Interpret the results 4. Make recommendations in choosing a course of action to improve productivity. Tech 234: Quality System Management: ISO 9000 and Identify and explain planning stages, necessary resources, and documentation processes for compliance to ISO 9000 for company management and ISO personnel in an organization 2. Present the background and rationale for each activity in the process, and provide implementation examples using ISO 9000 requirements 3. Deal with the management system in general and quality management system in particular including the identification of specific requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO Be able to apply core management concepts to improve organizations' ability to effectively use ISO systems for product design, development and production. Describe the importance of quality in all phases of a product life cycle and how to incorporate the quality principles into the design, manufacture, usage, service and phase out of products. 6.
