The mission of Iccrea Group companies is to support BCC-CRs by enhancing their position on the local market, increasing their efficiency and competitiveness, and maximizing the value they add in promoting local economic development.

9 Cooperative Credit Banks in Italy In Italy, Cooperative Credit came into being at the end of the 19th century, with the creation of the first system of Rural and Artisan Banks (Casse Rurali ed Artigiane), to help its members free themselves from the bonds of poverty and the scourge of usury. Casse Rurali ed Artigiane were created among rural communities to grant more favorable loans, focusing on people and relying on their members self-financing capability. Since then, each Banca di Credito Cooperativo and Cassa Rurale has kept strong and deep ties with their territory, interweaving their history to that of the local community. Credito Cooperativo in numbers: more than 400 Banche di Credito Cooperativo and Casse Rurale more than 4,0000 branches one million members 31,000 co-workers more than 5 million customers
10 Cooperative Credit in the world Cooperative organizations operating worldwide are more than 300 thousand with 170 million members. In Europe, there are more than 4,500 cooperative credit banks, about 60,000 branches and 60 million members. In some EU countries cooperative credit has reached a strong position in national markets. In France, for example, Cooperative groups such as Crédit Agricole and Crédit Mutuel account for almost one third of market deposits and jobs. The same results are registered in Finland with Ponjola Group, that plays a leading role in the Scandinavian economic market. Likewise, the Austrian RZB (Raiffeksen Zentrallbank Osterreich) has created a network of branches in the countries of Central- Eastern Europe. Also in the Netherlands, with Rabobank and in Germany, with DZ Bank and WGZ Bank members of the BVR system (Bundesverband der Deutschen Volksbanken und Raiffeinsenbanken), credit cooperation plays an important role in the entire country and territory where they operate recording constant positive growth. The most important European cooperative credit banking groups are represented by two associations located in Brussels, the European Association of Credit Banks (EACB), which represents and safeguards the entire category in front of the European Institutions, and Unico Banking Group, that promotes multilateral and bilateral cooperation among associated banks, to make banking services more efficient worldwide.

The association segment is divided into three areas: local, regional and national. BCC-CR, after their creation, are members of local federations (that represent one or more regions, and whose overall number is 15) that are associated to Federcasse, the national federation that promotes, coordinates and provides technical and auditing assistance to the entire Credito Cooperativo System.
