Children s CBSI Community Bible Study International PRESCHOOL CBSI CHILDREN S HOME PAPER LESSON 1 Year 1 - TRUSING IN GOD UNIT 1: LESSON 1: TRUSTING IN GOD'S WORD God's Creation And His First Families God's Word Is True Scripture: Psalm 119:160 Aim: Story Overview: Memory Verse: Memory Verse Song: Scripture Song: For the child to learn that the Bible is God's Word and that everything in it is true. The lesson will start by telling the children some facts about God and the Bible. Some questions will be answered such as: Who wrote the Bible? What are some other names for the Bible? What does the Bible tell us? The children will learn that they can trust everything in the Bible to be true. Psalm 119:42 - "I trust in your word." Psalm 119:42 - Sung to one of your traditional children s tunes. "I Will Trust" Bible Story: Today we're going to talk about God. There is one very special place that tells us ALL about God. It's not really a place we go, but it's in a very special book. This special book is called the Bible (hold up and open your Bible). Some people call it "the Word" since it has God's words which were written just for us-for you and for me! Everything that God has written in His Bible, or His Word, is true. When we know something is true then we can say we trust in it. If we believe that God's Bible, or His Word, is true then we can say, "I trust in your Word." Let's see if we can say that. Did you know that God chose very special people to write the Bible for Him? Yes, He did, and everything God told them to write is true. God wanted to be sure that we could believe His Bible. Life Application: Is this book (hold up Bible) "make believe"? No, it's not. We know that because God tells us so. He tells us in Psalm 119:42 that we can trust in His Word. Let's say that together: "I trust in your word," Psalm 119:42. Boys and girls, we are going to be listening to a new story each week when you come to Bible study. And do you know what? Every story we hear is going to be true because it will come from the Bible. Let's thank God for His Word and that we can believe everything in it to be true.

God s Word Is True I trust in your word. Psalm 119:42 SUGGESTIONS FOR PREPARING CRAFTS Pre School

1. Children s Leader should go through Craft Manual and choose crafts for the year. 2. Children s Leader will then go through each craft and make a list of needed supplies. Referring to the Craft Items Sheet will be helpful as well. Compile all supplies so they can be purchased at one time. By spending one or two days purchasing the majority of your supplies, you will cut your time tremendously. 3. Most crafts that are scenes or pictures will look better, last longer, and be easier for small hands to handle when mounted on construction paper. 4. Be sure to consolidate supplies, saving scraps of yarn, metallic pipe cleaners, and any other left-over supplies. 5. Be sure to have a finished craft each week to show at Leaders Team, to display on a board for the class to see, and to show the children before craft time begins. 6. Thick and tacky glue works best for small children. Coloured glue is fun, and glue sticks work well on many projects. 7. Teach children how to handle sequins. Have child touch his finger to his tongue and then the sequin will stick to his finger. Then have him touch the sequin to the glue on paper and the sequin will stick. 8. Be sure to tape all ends of yarn to form "needles" before doing any sewing. 9. If your Children's Programme has no access to a copier, ask members of your Leaders Team if someone's church would allow CBSI to use their copying machine. After the ministry of CBSI Children's Programme is explained, many churches will allow copying to be done free or for a small charge 10. Some churches or church members may own die-cut machines and will allow leaders to use them (leader provides own paper). Examples of Shapes might be houses, bushes, clouds, fruit, ovals, squares, letters, crosses, etc. 11. The crafts in this Craft Manual are merely suggestions. You may choose appropriate alternate crafts. Perhaps these suggestions will give you ideas and "ignite" creativity.

CRAFT ITEMS SHEET Pre School When planning crafts for the year, it is sometimes easier to order in bulk. A quick look at supplies you may wish to order or buy in advance: LESSONS Magnetic tape... 1 Stickers... 1,5, 12, 16, 19, 25 Paint... 1, 5, 14, 18,24 Chenille Sticks (pipe cleaners)... 2 Hole reinforcements... 2,12,18 Brads (paper fasteners)... 5, 24,33 Craft sticks... 7,15 Clothespegs (spring-type)... 8, 9, 14, 24 Foamboard...10 Sequins... 10, 11, 15 Paper plates 22cms (9") green cms (9") blue cms (6") and 22cms (9") white cms (9") any colour...28 Tissue paper... 17, 28 Moveable eyes...21 Clear sticky backed plastic... 28, final craft (bookmark) Glue/markers/crayons... many Other supplies to collect and save: yarn, grocery bags, 18-count egg cartons, cotton buds, wallpaper, sponges, macaroni, fabric, drinking straws, cottonwool balls, 5-oz. plastic cups, grass seed, ribbon, burlap, paper towels, polystyrene "meat" trays (unused, or used only for fruit), rick-rack braid, glitter, black buttons, black felt, packets of curly hair, cupcake liners, ink stamp pads, round cardboard containers with plastic lids to make banks (Lesson 25), round pricing labels

BIBLE VERSE PATCHES - Pre School An excellent way to reinforce the Bible verse for each unit is to use a Bible verse patch on the craft every week. Each verse will have its own shape and colour. The children will learn to associate the shape and colour with a particular verse. Even though most young children in our Children's Programme cannot read yet, they will be able to say the verse when they see its particular shape and colour. The pages which follow contain a large Bible verse patch and a sheet of small Bible verse patches for each unit. The large verse patches are to be copied on different colours of paper and posted in every classroom. The sheets of small Bible verse patches are to be copied on different colours of paper, cut apart, and used on all crafts for each week of a unit. If coloured paper isn't available, the shapes can be outlined in marker pens of different colous.

Children s CBSI Community Bible Study International PRESCHOOL YEAR I - CBSI CHILDREN'S LESSON 1 TRUSTING IN GOD UNIT 1: Lesson 1: TRUSTING GOD'S WORD God s Creation and His First Families God's Word Is True Scripture: Psalm 119:160 Aim: For the child to learn that the Bible is God's Word and that everything in it is true. Story Overview: The lesson will start by telling the children some facts about God and the Bible. Some questions will be answered such as: Who wrote the Bible? What are some other names for the Bible? What does the Bible tell us? The children will learn that they can trust everything in the Bible to be true. Memory Verse: Memory Verse Song: Scripture Song: Additional Verse: Psalm 119:42 - "I trust in your word." Psalm 119:42 - Sung to one of your traditional children s tunes. "I Will Trust" Psalm 119:160 - "All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal." Craft: Magnet to hold Children's Homework Long Bible Story: Who can tell me how and where we learn about God? We learn about God in church, in Sunday school, and here in our own Bible study. But there is one very special place that tells us ALL about God. It's not really a place we go, but it's in a very special book. This special book is called the Bible (hold up and open your Bible). The Bible is like a letter that God has written to you and to me. It is the only book that God has written for us. God chose very special people to write the Bible for Him. Some people even call it "the Word" since it has God's words, which were written just for us-for you and for me! Who can tell me what the Bible tells us? The Bible tells us things about God and what He has done. It tells us about Jesus. It also tells about you and me and what God wants us to do. Everything that God has written in His Bible, or His Word, is true. When we know something is true then we can say we believe in it or we trust in it. If we believe that God's Bible, or His Word, is true, then we can say, "I trust in your word." Let's all say this verse. Would you like for me to show you where that verse is written in the Bible? We can find it in a part of the Bible called Psalms-in Psalm 119:42. We could say that Psalm 119:42 is the address of the verse "I trust in your word." How can I ever find the part called Psalms? It would be a little like trying to find your house if I didn't know the address. That would be really hard for me!!

If I wanted to know where you live, I would need your address. I couldn't drive around town looking for your house, could I? No, first of all I would need to know the name of your street and I would also need to know your house number. Then I would know where to look for your house! Bible verses are the same way. Every Bible verse has an address just like each one of us has an address. The Bible looks so big, doesn't it? But it's easy to find our way around in it. The Bible is divided into two parts-the Old Testament and the New Testament. And then each of these parts is divided into books. These are called the books of the Bible. If we look in the very front of the Bible there is a list of all the books in the Old Testament and a list of all the books in the New Testament. Let's see if we can find where the book of Psalms is located (run your finger down the books of the Old Testament until you come to Psalms). Here it is. Psalms is on page number ( ). Let's turn to that in our Bible. Here it is. Now let's look for 119:42. And here it is, Psalm 119:42. It says, "I trust in your word." Who can remember what "I trust in your word" means? It means that everything I read in the Bible is true. Did you know that God chose very special people to write the Bible for Him? And everything God told them to write is true. God wanted to be sure that we could believe His Bible. Everything we read from it is true!! Can you believe everything that you read in other books? No, you can't. Not all books are true, are they? (Hold up fictional children's books.) Look at my fictional book. Do you think that (Talk about the fictional children tale s characters and story) could happen? No, not really. That is what we call "make believe." It's fun to think "make believe" happened, but we know that it could never really happen. There are many "make believe" books and they are fun to read. But when we read God's Word we know these words are true. Life Application: Is this book (hold up Bible) "make believe"? No, it's not. We know that because God tells us so., He tells us in Psalm 119:42 that we can trust in His Word. Short Bible Story: Today we're going to talk about God. There is one very special place that tells us ALL about God. It's not really a place we go, but it's in a very special book. This special book is called the Bible (hold up and open your Bible). (hold hands together, palms facing toward you) It's stories are true! (point upward) God gave us these stories For me and you. (point to self, then another) Quiet, so quiet (finger to mouth, shhh) We all now will be. Listen! A story! (cup hands to ears) And pictures to see! (point to eyes, hold hands out like book)

The Bible (can be used before starting all lessons) This book is the Bible 'Tis God's holy Word; I open its pages To stories I've heard. I like to hear stories Of Jesus, God's Son. I thank God for giving His Word for each one. (put hands together) (hands open) (listen, hand to ear) (pray) (point to children) From 202 Things To Do At Home. Church. I'm so glad we have the Bible To learn about God. I'm so glad God's Word is true, Is true, is true. I'm so glad God's Word is true For us today! So let's just thank God, Thank God, thank God. So let's just thank God For giving us His Word. The B-I - B - L - E The B-I - B - L - E, Yes, that's the book for me. It tells me how to live and love, The B-I - B - L - E. (Say: "BIBLE. ")

Bringing It Home-Introduction Year 1 Welcome! Your child is enrolled in Year 1 of our Preschool curriculum for Children s Ministry. This year s theme, TRUSTING IN GOD, will be expressed through coordinated Bible stories, music, finger-plays, crafts, special activities, and the Children s Home Paper (coloring page). Each adult in your child s class (other than any paid childcare workers) is a volunteer from your CBSI class who is trained and directed by the Children s Director. Class members from each Core Group may also be in your child s class as a support; they do not teach, but serve as classroom helpers. You will receive a Bringing It Home paper (like this one) each week. These tie in with your children s lessons and offer helpful suggestions for parenting. This year s focus will be: TRUSTING IN GOD UNIT 1 TRUSTING IN GOD S WORD God s Creation and His First Families (Noah, Abraham, Isaac) I trust in Your Word. (Psalm 119:42) UNIT 2 TRUSTING GOD AS OUR HELPER Joseph and His Family The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. Our entire lesson focused on understanding that the Bible is trustworthy and has the best instructions for our lives. Your child can trust that: * Everything God says in His Word, the Bible, is true. * God created us. * God loves us. We are blessed to have His Word, which explains His wonderful plan of salvation, at our fingertips. What does this mean for you? * You can trust that God has a plan for your life. * You can trust God to help you raise your children. * Each day you have the opportunity to read His Word and draw closer to Him. The choice is always yours. God will never force Himself on us. Invite the Lord to help you be the parent He created you to be.
