Winner of public examination for 1 position of researcher, Med/30 at the University of Verona (5 february 2004). Full-time university researcher, SDS (scientific disciplinary sector) MED/30 Diseases of the Visual System, at the University of Verona, from 10 january Full time research scientist, SDS MED/30 Diseases of the Visual System, at the University of Verona, from 10 january 2008 to present. (FAS) Highly specialized function in Cornea and External Diseases at the University Eye Clinic of Verona, from 01 december 2011 to present. WORK EXPERIENCE 2
3 Dr Pedrotti attended the University Eye Clinic of Verona led by Prof. Bonomi Luciano and then by Prof. Marchini Giorgio as an undergraduate fellow, postgraduate fellow, resident, research fellow and full-time researcher. From 10 january 2005 he s a full-time university researcher and works at the University Eye Clinic of Verona as an ophthalmologist and an ophthalmic surgeon with a FAS (highly specialized function) in cornea and external diseases and cornea transplants. His surgical experience varies from vitreoretinal to corneal, refractive and squint surgery. Since january 2005 he s head of the Cornea and ocular surface service and manages the vitreoretinal emergencies and the cornea transplants. He a a surgical and clinical tutor for the residents. 1. Surgical and parasurgical activity Dr Pedrotti operates 3 times a week. He performs cataract and glaucoma surgery, corneal transplants (penetrating keratoplasty, deep lamellar keratoplasty, endothelial keratoplasty), amniotic membrane and stem cells transplantation, vitreoretinal surgery (either ab externo or 25 and 23 G vitrectomy) and toric, phakic, multifocal IOLs implantation. He performs also YAG, diode and argon laser for vitreoretinal diseases, glaucoma and secondary cataract. Dr Pedrotti has performed during his career more than 6000 surgeries in the field of: - Cataract and refractive surgery: phacoemulsification and IOL implantation, secondary IOL implantation, phakic IOL implantation for correction of high ametropia (mainly high myopia), photorefractive keratectomy and excimer laser in situ keratomileusis - Glaucoma surgery: trabeculectomy with antimetabolites, drainage implants, diode laser cyclophotocoagulation. - Corneal transplants: PK (penetrating keratoplasty), lamellar keratoplasty, deep lamellar keratoplasty, endothelial keratoplasty. - Corneal ectasia surgery: corneal cross-linking, intrastromal rings. - Ocular surface surgery: amniotic membrane transplantation, fornix recontruction and autologous limbal stem cells transplantation. - Retinal detachment surgery: scleral buckling and encircling with gas bubble. - Vitreo-retinal surgery of complex cases (vitreoretinal proliferation, proliferative diabetic retinopathy, trauma, endophthalmitis) with or without silicon oil. - Posterior pole and macular surgery: (epiretinal membrane and macula hole): 23G and 25G vitrectomy. - Squint surgery, traditional in pediatric patients and under topical anestesia in adults. - Plastic surgery: enucleation and mobile orbital implantation. 2. Sectors of innovation and excellence in surgery. - Cataract and refractive surgery with phakic, refractive, diffractive and accomodating IOLs; 3
4 - Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty; - Limbal stem cells transplantation (in collaboration with the Eye Bank Foundation of Veneto); - Mini invasive vitreoretinal surgery G. 3. Diagnostic service and treatment of cornea and ocular surface diseases. Since 1 april 2002 Dr. Pedrotti manages the diagnostic service and treatment of cornea and ocular surface diseases of the Eye Clinic of Verona. This service provides: corneal topography, optical coherence tomography, in vivo confocal microscopy, aberrometry, specular endothelial microscopy, counselling for infectious and degenerative corneal diseases, corneal transplants follow up, diagnosis and treatment of limbal stem cell deficiency, tear film analysis and treatment. 4. Vitreoretinal surgery. Since 2005 Dr. Pedrotti is one of the main vitreoretinal surgeons at the Eye Clinic of Verona. He regularly performs retinal detachment and trauma surgeries. He also performs more complex cases of diabetic retinopathy, and vitreoretinal proliferation surgeries. Macular surgery and about 75% of the retinal surgery is performed in Day Surgery regimen under local anesthesia and with mini invasive techniques ( G). 4
5 DIDACTIC WORK Dr. Pedrotti theaches pathophysiological optics and squint at the School of Medicine of the UNIVERSITY OF VERONA since 2009/2010. He also teaches to the ophthalmology residents since 2006/2007. His didactic work is addressed also to all the ophthalmologists, as required by the SSN (National health system) for the continuing education in medicine (ECM programme). 1. Teachings. 1) Ophthalmology integrated course. School of Medicine and Surgery. Since ) Pathophysiological optics. School of Ophthalmology. Since ) Anterior segment surgery. School of ophthalmology.
