1 WINDSOR ORANGE February 15, 2012 To The Members of the Windsor and Orange County Bar Associations: We are pleased to announce the formation of the Windsor Orange Legal Assistance Project funded by the Vermont Bar Foundation and made possible by supplemental donations of pro bono legal services from our members. The project provides a limited number of modestly compensated hours of legal low bono representation by attorneys selected from a trained panel of members for income eligible residents with Windsor and Orange counties. We will also work with our member attorneys to increase pro se litigant access to volunteer pro bono legal assistance. Our services provide representation in the following areas: Child Support Enforcement Landlord Tenant Disputes Collection and Foreclosure Involuntary Guardianships The trainings are co-sponsored by the Vermont Bar Association and are approved for CLE credit. There are no fees for the courses and participants will be encouraged (not obligated) to provide their services to our community. The trainings will be conducted on February 24 & March 30 in Royalton and attorneys are invited to attend any or all of our classes. After completing a given course, participants may be placed on a panel providing services in that specific area of law. The panel will be comprised of attorneys who are available to represent pre-screened income qualified individuals for a set number of hours based either on an hourly rate or on a pro bono basis. We hope that you will take advantage of this opportunity to provide needed services to our community with the support of the Windsor County Bar Association, the Orange County Bar Association and the Vermont Bar Foundation. The Windsor-Orange Legal Assistance Project (WOLAP) helps to provide pro-bono legal representation to indigent and low-income litigants appearing before the Windsor and Orange county courts in the following legal areas: Child Support Enforcement Involuntary Guardianship Landlord and Tenant Disputes Collection and Foreclosure Members of the Windsor and Orange county bar are invited to join us in our mission by providing representation to select eligible clients. By attending any of our professional orientation programs, participating attorneys will receive CLE credit towards their continuing legal education and will be invited to provide compensated representation within the WOLAP program. Structured attorney fees are grant funded by, and in cooperation with, the Vermont Bar Foundation.
