If student exhibits signs or symptoms of a concussion, they are not allowed to return to activity until cleared by physician and approved by CSDA Chief Medical Officer- Dr. Laura Staff, MD Once cleared by CSDA Chief Medical Officer to resume activity, student will begin 5-day progression with athletic trainer or nurse. Information about the CSDA Concussion Policy and additional concussion management resources can be found on the School District Website:
IF IN DOUBT.. SIT THEM OUT!!! It is better to miss one or two contests rather than an entire season or career!!!
NYS Heat Index Procedure Using Accuweather RealFeel readings: Heat Index under 79 degrees= full practice, no restrictions Heat Index degrees= Caution: provide ample water, monitor for heat illness Heat Index of degrees= Watch: same as above but also consider changing practice time to when it s cooler. 1 hour of recovery time for every practice hour Heat Index of degrees= warning: same as above but also practice is modified to less equipment/no helmets etc Heat Index of 96 degrees or above= Alert= suspend outside practice= it s too hot to evaporate the sweat off the skin to cool off the atheltes.
Proper Hydration For Athletes In most cases: Water is the appropriate way to hydrate On very humid, hot days, Gatorade or Powerade (diluted with water) may be needed to balance Electrolytes that are lost with exercise. Do NOT drink fruit juices, soda or Energy drinks that contain sugar, caffeine or Ephedrine
Proper Hydration For Athletes 2-hours prior to activity = 16 oz. 15 min prior to activity = 8-16 oz During Activity = 4-8oz. every 20 min. activity After Activity = oz. for each pound lost. Typical Sideline Cup 5oz Bottle of Gatorade 20oz Typical Water Bottle 16.9oz

Athletic Code of Conduct
Athletic Code of Conduct Board Policy - Highest level of rules in district. Why? Student-Athlete health & well being is our #1 priority! What is in it? To have the same standards for all student/athletes, regardless of athletic ability or skill. 1) Academic -failing more than 1 class = ineligible to play in games -must attend study hall if ineligible -most important thing need to graduate from HS! 2) Behavior -progressive discipline plan for yellow cards -suspended from school = 3 weeks no games! 3) Chemical -suspended from school or violate policy = 3 weeks no games! -progressive, multiple violations up to year suspended from being on teams If you are at a party where alcohol or drugs are being used, you are subject to consequences regardless of whether or not you are using.
Academic Eligibility Fall Sport Seasons 1. 4th quarter grades from the prior academic year will be used to determine eligibility; OR 2. Final class average from the prior academic year will be used to determine eligibility; OR 3. Summer school grades will be used to determine eligibility. **The highest grade of the above categories shall be used to determine athletic eligibility. Spring Sport Seasons 1. 2nd quarter grades will be used to determine eligibility. Winter Sport Seasons 1. 1st quarter grades will be used to determine eligibility. Additional Information 1. Ineligibility begins on the day of the first game (scrimmages are not included). 2. This rule shall not apply to instances where ineligibility is the result of an error in grade calculation. 3. When a student has failed three (3) or more classes in the marking period preceding a sport season, they will not be permitted to try out for a sport during that season.
Standards of Conduct KEEP ALCOHOL & DRUGS OFF THE PLAYING FIELD No student-athlete shall knowingly attend any party or other social gathering where underage drinking and illegal drug use occurs. It is the attendance at such gatherings which is prohibited by this rule. Actual consumption of alcohol or use of drugs is not a prerequisite to establish a violation of this rule.
NYSPHSAA Transfer Rules Transfer = changed registration from one school to another Transfer with corresponding change of address into new school (new district) = eligible ** Section 2 requires proof of previous address being cancelled Student who transfers without a corresponding change of address = ineligible for a period of 1 year! Exemption: Students who transfers from any school to the public school district of the residence of their parents or a private school within that district s boundaries, shall receive a waiver from the transfer rule. Such transfer without penalty will only be permitted once in the high school career! It does not matter if you ever play sports at the previous school, if you were enrolled, it counts as a transfer!!! If you don t know or you are considering a transfer, ASK! what the rules are in New York State. It is a shame when a student/athlete has to sit out a year, because due diligence was not done prior to transferring do your homework before transferring!
NYSPHSAA Eligibility Rules 4 years to play from the time you enter 9th grade -not attained 19 years old prior to July 1 It doesn t matter whether the student played sports or not a 4 year clock starts ticking when you enter your freshman year this is not college athletics, New York State does not red shirt athletes. Pregnancy is not reason to appeal likely you could still get your education while pregnant. Home schooling for a year is not a reason to appeal. Being held back in school is not a reason to appeal. It s about receiving your education, not sports. If you are healthy enough to receive your education, then the clock for eligibility is ticking.
