Faculty Data: Oklahoma State University Survey Data Collected Fall 2012 First published in 1974, the Faculty Survey by Discipline is a project directed by Oklahoma State University s Office of Institutional Research and Information Management. Doctoral degree-granting institutions from each state were selected to provide low, high, and average salaries for each academic discipline and faculty rank represented on their campuses. These institutions annually award doctorates in a minimum of five different discipline areas. In an effort to produce a national sample of average faculty salaries by discipline, institutions from each state were invited to participate. This year, 114 institutions participated. Institutions are requested to submit salary data by rank and discipline according to the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP), developed by the ational Center for Education Statistics. Where our disciplines do not have comparators, we usually compare to the closest CIP group ending in 01 or 00. We also typically compare our salaries to our Carnegie Class peers, Research Universities, Very High Research Activity. The Review Committee at MSU-Bozeman uses salary data aggregated at the national level to make rough market comparisons by rank and discipline. The national average salaries by rank and discipline with the number of faculty in each reporting cohort are listed below. The salaries are an overall average of the 114 institutions where there were instructors of that rank and discipline. The "" column lists the number of professors by rank that were included in the survey. All salaries are on a 9-10 month contract equivalent. For year-round faculty, salaries where converted to what it would be for an academic year using a conversion of 9/11ths. (e.g. a department head that is paid $110,000 for the fiscal year is reported at $90,000 for the academic year). The complete survey report is available from the Office of Planning and Analysis. For questions, please contact Becca Belou, Office of Planning and Analysis, x4339 or rebeccabelou@montana.edu.
