Alsterterrasse 1 20354 Hamburg www.uni-hamburg.de/ib info.international@uni-hamburg.de Campus Center Information for international applicants (Bachelor s degrees programs) Thank you for your interest in studying at Universität Hamburg! If you would like to apply but did not receive your higher education entrance eligibility in Germany (German secondary school leaving degree), the following will help you prepare and send off your application. Application deadlines at Universität Hamburg Preparing your application step by step www.uni-hamburg.de/iguide The application process in 5 steps Step 1: Information on the subject www.uni-hamburg.de/degree-programs Application deadlines for the following degree programs Bachelor's degree Staatsexamen (state examination) Diplom/Magister or Baccelaureate Application period for the winter semester: from 1 June to 15 July of the year in question. Application deadline for the summer semester: from 1 December to 15 January of the year in question. You may only apply during these periods. Please note: For the Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry degree programs you may, under certain conditions, have to apply via the Foundation for Higher Education Admissions. In these cases, other application deadlines may apply. You can find more information at: www.uni-hamburg.de/hochschulstart-admission-procedure You can start to prepare your application prior to the application period. Our online portal International Guide takes you through the application process at Universität Hamburg step by step: www.uni-hamburg.de/iguide Regardless of your nationality, the following information is important if: you did not obtain your higher education entrance eligibility (German secondary school leaving certificate) in Germany or if you obtained an International Baccalaureate (IB) in Germany or if you wish to apply for a pre-semester preparatory course. The application process in 5 steps: 1. Inform yourself about the subject you would like to study. 2. Have uni-assist e.v. review your foreign higher education entrance eligibility (secondary school leaving certificate) in advance. 3. Attend German language courses so that you can provide proof of German language proficiency by the time you begin your program. 4. Read the information on online applications, complete the online application and submit it electronically. 5. Send the printed out online application together with all the necessary documentation to Universität Hamburg within the application period. 1. Information about your subject of choice Universität Hamburg currently offers more than 170 degree programs in eight schools: www.uni-hamburg.de/degree-programs The Center for Academic Advising can advise you on the individual degree programs: www.uni-hamburg.de/studienberatung Every summer semester, in cooperation with the Studienkolleg Hamburg, Universität Hamburg offers international first-year students a preparatory course which prepares you for your chosen academic program: www.uni-hamburg.de/prop Last amended: December 2015

2 Step 2: Review by uni-assist www.uni-hamburg.de/assist 2. Having your higher education entrance eligibility reviewed by uni-assist In step two, your foreign secondary school leaving certificate and, if applicable, any documentation from higher education institutions, need to be reviewed in advance by uni-assist (University Application Service for International Students). In a so-called preliminary documentation procedure, uni-assist checks whether your educational credentials make you eligible to study in Germany or for the program of your choice and allocates a grade for your chosen degree program. Step 3: Proof of German language proficiency for a degree program www.uni-hamburg.de/german-language If you belong to one of the following groups, you do not need preliminary documentation and can proceed directly to step 3: Graduates of a German Studienkolleg with an assessment test certificate listing the cumulative grade People with certification from a German authority with a converted grade for their higher education entrance eligibility Applying for an uni-assist check To have your application reviewed, please send translated and certified school leaving and higher education certificates as well as any other relevant certificates of educational qualifications together with your application form to uni-assist. The application form, the list of documents to be submitted and uni-assist contact data can be found at: www.uni-hamburg.de/assist. Costs At present, the fee is EUR 75. Once you have submitted the documentation to uni-assist, please transfer the fee to uni-assist: www.uni-assist.de/bank-account.html Processing time After approx. four weeks you will receive preliminary documentation from uni-assist as proof of your higher education entrance eligibility. You can only apply to Universität Hamburg with this preliminary documentation. Please allow sufficient time for your certificates to be checked by uni-assist so that you can submit your application for the subject of your choice within the application period. Universität Hamburg recommends that you submit your documentation to uni-assist at the latest four weeks prior to the start of the application period. Please note that the preliminary documentation from uni-assist must be up-to-date and is only valid for one year from the date of issue. If your preliminary documentation results are older, please ensure that preliminary review documentation that has expired will be accepted for the purposes of the application procedure at Universität Hamburg. Please send an e-mail with your preliminary review documentation in an attachment to the InfoService for international prospective students: info.international@uni-hamburg.de.
