5. HISTORY Noise Awareness Day is an event organized for the first time in USA in 1995 by Centre for Hearing and Communication, to promote the awareness on long term exposure to noise and its effect on health. Since 1995, every year, some private and public institutions, together with schools, in a growing number of nations, organize initiatives involving students and citizens. Italy participates for the first time in 2010, in the frame of HUSH project (coordinated by the City of Florence and co-funded by European Union in the frame of Life+ 2008 program). In collaboration with some schools, interested in acoustic requalification and noise protection of their inner and outer spaces, initiatives named Catch the noise and Transform the noise have been organized in 2010 and 2011. In 2012 the 17 INAD (International Noise Awareness Day) has been organized by AIA (the Acoustic Society of Italy), in collaboration with Florence City and Province Administrations and with support of EAA (the European Acoustics Association), intersting schools and Institutions of European countries and Acoustic Societies member of EAA. The 2012 edition, titled Understand Noise, AIA working group has involved schools of different level in educational events on the themeof Noise Awareness. Original materials have been produced and distributed in schools, the Quiet Diet has been presented and a web connection among schools of the world participating at the event has been established on April 24th. A very active facebook group has been created, developed and updated in the following months with news and information regarding sound and noise, stimulating interest of the noumerous young and adult members of the group itself. 6. AIMS OF NOISE AWARENESS DAY - ITALY AIA has defined the general objectives of Noise Awareness Day Italia, the sensibilization program to be implemented in Italy, drafting the initiatives yearly organized in Italian schools, aiming to: inform and increase awareness of students and citizens on noise reduction by social media (posters, publications, social networks, etc..); measure and assess noise in schools (indoor and outdoor); design solutions for noise mitigation and improve acoustic climate; describe soundscapes of schools and scholastic gardens; write and / or draw an advertising campaign on noise; understand, define and observe a "quiet diet"; distribute and collect questionnaires and interviews about sound quality in schools and in living environments; invent games and playing activities related to acoustic and noise; take a minute for listening to silent; create links between schools in different cities and countries to share the actions taken. 7. NOISE AWARENESS DAY ITALIA - 2013 For the 18 th edition of "International Noise Awareness Day" the TEAM Group AIA offers new and interesting initiatives that involve some schools in Italy and some schools, organizations and institutions around the world. The title of this new edition will "RI-CONOSCI IL RUMORE" in the double sense of "to know again", that is to repeat and to deepen topics covered in the previous edition, and "to recognize", that is to know distinguishing sounds and categorizing noise.
The project NOISE AWARENESS DAY ITALY - 2013 includes: dissemination campaign of the event through the distribution of brochures, posters, educational and informative material; continuous updating of the information on social networks (Facebook and Twitter); moderation of the Facebook Group NOISE AWARENESS DAY ITALY with extraction of the most relevant post, which will be included in a final report publication; various activities during AIA-EAA and DAGA Euroregio WINTER SCHOOL (in collaboration with YAN) including a paper in the proceedings, a poster presentation and a stand of AIA and EAA to inform and collect new members to the event ; development of the theme "leisure noise" in schools, from tests for students in order to discuss with them during the day the results and the problems related to their "acoustic habits "; distribution to involved school of information leaflets prepared in previous edition of the INAD; presentation of the "quiet diet" to illustrate what are the healthy habits to prevent the risks connected to noise exposure; dissemination of new flyer, produced for the 2013 edition, which illustrate risks associated with coustic habits (emerged from the results of the questionnaire); video-skype connection with other schools around the world involved in the project; video-skype connection with Centro Didattico dell Italia in Miniatura con presentazione del Laboratorio Didattico A Suon di Rumori, organized under the support of AIA. 8.
