The BMS administration, or designee, has the right to open any locker in the event of an emergency, if there is believed to be a serious violation of school board policy, or for the purpose of safety, health, and welfare of the middle school students and staff. School district authorities may, without a search warrant, search students, student lockers, personal effects, desks, work areas or student vehicles based on a reasonable and articulated suspicion that a school district policy, rule, regulation or law has been broken. For further information refer to Board Policy 502.7. YEARBOOKS Yearbooks may now be ordered for the school year 2015-2016. These may be purchased at registration, through payschools@newton.k12.ia.us or for a week in January (students need to listen for dates through morning announcements). STUDENT DRESS Clothing which interferes with the learning environment of the school will not be allowed. Examples of clothing which are not appropriate for school include pajama pants, short shorts, halter, strapless, spaghetti strap, or backless tops, and bare midriff designs. Any clothing that depicts violence, has messages using double meaning, or any clothing sexist in nature, will not be allowed. While the primary responsibility for appearance rests with the students and their parents, the administration reserves the right to judge what is proper and what is not.
