Your Personal Statement (as well as any other essays you may include) may be used to evaluate your writing skills, judgment, passions, and analytical abilities. Please select a subject that you feel is relevant and submit an essay that is two to five double-spaced pages. Federal legislation gives students attending the Law School the right to inspect and review the Letters of Recommendation contained in their educational records, unless the student or applicant waives that right and consents to the letters remaining confidential between the Law School and the person writing the recommendation. Diversity Statement If you wish, you may submit an essay that reflects on your diversity and how it impacted your decision to pursue a career in law. Character and Fitness In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners. For Further Information: please visit our website at www.law.umn.edu.
