REGISTRATION ARRANGEMENTS 1.1 WHEN The Online Registration Guide which contains information relating to the online registration process and contact details is available online at uconnect.uj.ac.za. Select the Registration icon. If you are unsuccessful with the online registration process off site you are welcome to visit the faculty on your specific registration date and time to assist you with the registration process. The full on campus assisted registration schedule is available online at uconnect.uj.ac.za. Select the Registration icon or contact our call centre on (011) 559 4555 for more information. No student may attend lectures in a module or programme if he/she is not registered for it. Please register on dates provided in the registration schedule on the last page of this letter. No late registrations will be allowed. 1.2 WHERE Registration takes place on the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus in D1 Lab 108B. Registration on the Soweto Campus is in the Robert Sobukwe building, room GNAB02. 1.3 DOCUMENTS All students, including those from other Universities, must submit certified copies of their degree certificates, complete academic records, and certificates of good conduct from their former institutions, entrance certificates and ID documents. (Only A4 certified copies will be accepted). 1.4 DEGREE/ DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTS It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that he/she meets all the requirements for degree/ diploma purposes. Please ensure that you are registered correctly and understand all regulations pertaining towards the fulfilment of degree/ diploma requirements. 2. ALLOCATION OF PLACES The University cannot guarantee your place if you do not register in your allocated registration timeslot. Students planning to register from home or from the office should register in the allocated timeslot. You will be able to register off campus, online from the 11 th of January 2016. On-campus assisted registration commences on the 25 th of January 2016. The full registration schedule is available online at UJ/Registration. 3. PAYMENTS All students, including students whose fees are paid by sponsors or employers, have to pay the following minimum amounts: 1
Full-time/part-time: Tuition fees: R 3 870.00 (All students not residing in the residences) Residence students fees: R 6 470.00 (Minimum fee for residence and tuition fees) Payments can be made via the online registration process with a credit / cheque card. Should payments be made direct to the bank account of the University, the deposit must be made into the UJ s bank account at least FIVE (5) WORKING DAYS PRIOR to your registration date. No refunds will be approved without it. In addition no refunds will be made during the month of January 2016. Those who do not comply with these requirements will not be able to complete the registration process until the payment reflects on the student account. Students will not be unblocked with a bank deposit slip if they did not make the payment 5 working days prior to the date of registration. It is also advisable that students who made payment in time bring a copy of the deposit slip with them on the day of registration. 4. HANDHELD DEVICES FOR SENIOR STUDENTS 2016 UJ is committed to bringing 21 st century education to its students by maximising the use of technology for teaching and learning. It is therefore imperative that all students are equipped with a tablet or, in the Faculties of Science, Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE), and Art Design and Architecture (FADA), preferably with a laptop. It is a strict requirement that you have a tablet or a laptop at the beginning of the academic year, but if you are uncertain of which device to purchase, consult with your faculty the moment you have registered. There is widespread Wi-Fi on campus, as well as numerous points for charging your tablet or laptop. Minimum specifications: Tablets The specifications (see Annexure A) provide for minimum requirements in respect of functionality, processing power and connectivity. Please note that these are minimum specifications. More advanced laptops or tablets are, of course, acceptable. You do not need to buy another device if you already have one complying with the minimum specifications. The tablet must have built-in Wi-Fi that will enable you to access all UJ s electronic resources. Existing deals on devices Students can shop around for good deals and Apple gives a discount to registered students when producing a student card. 2
5. TIMETABLE The lecturing timetable, FSAO (examination timetable) and test dates will be available online at UJ/Timetables. 5.1 TIMETABLE CLASHES It is the responsibility of all students to ensure that there are no timetable clashes between subjects. This applies to class and exam timetable clashes. 6. MEDIUM OF TUITION Academic programmes are offered in English on all four campuses and in Afrikaans for selected programmes on the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus. For more information, kindly refer to the UJ prospectus, which can be found on the UJ website. 7. MERIT BURSARIES The University wishes to confirm that merit bursaries will be awarded according to a formula. If you qualify for a merit bursary according to the criteria contained in the Bursary Brochure, please contact the Bursary Division with a certified copy of your statement of symbols during registration in January. Merit bursary allocations will take place only after the Autumn Recess. 8. TRANSFER STUDENTS Students transferring from another university to the University of Johannesburg are required to register on the dates and times allocated to senior students. Please contact the faculty to obtain the senior registration information and forms to request credit exemptions if required. 9. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS The Division for Internationalisation is the first port of call for all international students before proceeding to registration. This is the place where students are welcomed to the University and are cleared for registration. International students which will be registering with the university on the basis a study, work or relative visa will need to submit proof of medical aid cover registered and administered in South Africa. International students which will be registering on the basis of a permanent resident permit, Asylum and Refugee permit are exempted from the medical aid requirement. AGREEMENT BETWEEN UNDERAGE STUDENTS (YOUNGER THAN 18 YEARS) AND THE UNIVERSITY All underage applicants will be required to enter into an agreement with the University before registration in January 2016.
