Utilization Our service providers, American Assist Travel Services Inc. and World Travel Assist Latam are experienced worldwide operators who provide services to thousands of travelers and expats all over Latin-America. In case of an emergency the clients only need to contact the call center and the medical director of the service provider coordinates all necessary aspects of the assistance process with the local physician and/or hospital. The Air Ambulance benefit is an assistance service and does not reimburse expenses incurred by the beneficiaries or dependents without prior written authorization of the service provider.
Costs The cost for the Northernlight Emergency Medical Assistance and Air Ambulance plan is US$ 239.00 per year for individuals up to 65 years of age. Conditions The beneficiary must be hospitalized as inpatient in a hospital in Ecuador for a medical emergency and have a confirmed admission at the receiving hospital abroad prior to transport. American Assist Travel Services Medical Director and the receiving physician must concur that the patient cannot be discharged and travel without continuous medical care. Northernlight Ecuador or its designated service provider must make all arrangements for air medical transportation and repatriation. Decisions regarding urgency of the case, the best timing, and the most suitable means of transportation will be made by the Medical Director after consultation with the local attending physician and the receiving physician. If a patient condition permits, he or she may be transported as a patient on a scheduled commercial airline in the care of a physician. Both the originating and receiving hospitals must be reasonably accessible by ground ambulance to transport the beneficiary to and from an airfield capable of accommodating medical aircraft we provide. Northernlight Ecuador will coordinate all the process with each airport and the facility of a ground ambulance. Transportation from remote areas or islands to a location with an airfield accessible to medical aircraft may not be provided. Costs of evacuation from these remote areas may be the responsibility of the member. Due to limited medical and laboratory facilities on cruise ships, in some cases the Medical Director may require a member to be admitted to a hospital on-shore before scheduling air medical transportation to another hospital. U.S. registered aircraft and personnel cannot be sent into countries where the U.S. State Department has issued travel restrictions, or to areas where civil aviation has been suspended or restricted, such as the result of a natural disaster or civil unrest. American Assist Travel Services reserves the right to decide.
Conditions One family member of the beneficiary, business associate, and/or traveling companion may accompany the patient, on medical aircraft if space is available and the patient s care is not compromised. Air ambulance service is limited to two separate transports per year Northernlight Ecuador reserves the right to change or amend the conditions if necessary without prior announcement. All determinations by Northernlight Ecuador shall be final and conclusive in each case. By applying for these services you accept and agree to Northernlight Ecuador terms and conditions of coverage. You understand that this plan provides assistance and that you are not entitled to reimbursement. Depending on foreign laws and customs, embalming may not be available in all countries; Documents required by some countries can delay transport by several days; Caskets, other than those certified for airline transport, are not included Waiting Period 24 hours after inception date for vital emergencies and accidents.
Exclusions Beneficiaries with injuries that can be treated by local medical providers without an increased risk do not justify the request for air medical services. Beneficiaries who are hospitalized or anticipating hospitalization at the time of enrollment will not be eligible for any benefits. Beneficiaries who travelled to Latin America to receive medical care are not entitled to Air Ambulance service. Beneficiaries with tuberculosis or other chronic airborne pathogens cannot be transported. Beneficiaries with infectious diseases under treatment at the time of enrollment cannot be transported. Beneficiaries seeking placement on an organ transplant list at the time of enrollment is not entitled to benefits under this plan. Beneficiaries beyond the second trimester of pregnancy may not be transported. Due to FAA weight limits on stretchers, beneficiary weighing over 300 pounds may not be transported. Beneficiary will not be entitled to air medical services if their illness or injury is a result of or is contributed to by the following: - War, invasion or civil war; - Suicide, attempted suicide or intentional self-injury; - A beneficiaries own criminal or felonious act, or - Sustained while the beneficiary is in a state of mental incapacity.
