Polycom University RealPresence Platform: Installation, Configuration and Troubleshooting - RPIIT202 Course Description A blended program including self-study and classroom training that provides the knowledge and skills to implement, configure and perform troubleshooting on a RealPresence Platform environment. Level Definition Polycom training provides a progressive learning path with courses starting at level one and progressing to level four. This course is categorised as Level 2 and assumes Level 1 knowledge and provides specific details about the deployment and configuration of the solutions with an emphasis on lab exercises to build practical skills. Course Goals On completion of the training students will be able to: Articulate and demonstrate the key features of RealPresence Platform products Deploy and configure a customer solution that integrates RMX, DMA, Resource Manager, RSS and various Polycom endpoints deployed in a Microsoft Active Directory environment Use appropriate techniques to troubleshoot simple issues for endpoints, RMX, DMA, Resource Manager and RSS Explain how to find the necessary documentation to assist Polycom Global Services in the event of an issue requiring escalation Explain how the addition of Polycom RSS and RealPresence Access Director (RPAD) can enhance the functionality and performance of the deployment Explain the functionality provided by the CloudAXIS Suite Successfully complete 70% of the objectives tested in the Polycom Certified Videoconferencing Engineer (PCVE) certification examination Target Audience All Support Engineers. Prerequisites 1. RealPresence Platform Level 2 Readiness Pre-work* (download for Assessment items 2 & 3) 2. Assessments: RealPresence Platform Technical Level 1 RPPEXOT104 3. Assessments: Polycom Video Endpoints Technical Level 1 RPEEXOT104 4. Network+ Certification or equivalent knowledge. http://certification.comptia.org/getcertified/certifications/network.aspx 5. Polycom Fundamentals FSIT201 or equivalent knowledge** *Approximately one day of self-paced pre-work from courseware downloaded by the student. ** 30% of the PCVE certification objectives test understanding of technologies and protocols used by RealPresence Platform products. Duration Five days of classroom training. Delivery Methodology The course will be delivered as instructor-led training in the classroom, with most of the time spent completing hands-on labs. Materials Students will receive a printed study and lab guide for the classroom training. Assessment RealPresence Platform Implementation Configuration and Troubleshooting Level 2 lab-based practical assessment will be completed during the classroom training. Students will also be required to complete a multiple choice theory assessment (hosted by Prometric) to assess: 30% - Understanding of technologies and protocols used by Polycom RealPresence solutions 55% - Deploying and configuring Polycom RealPresence Platform solutions for small to mediumsized customers 15% - Troubleshooting Polycom RealPresence Platform solutions Successful completion of the theory assessment will certify the student as a Polycom Certified Videoconferencing Engineer, or PCVE. Outline Development Pre-work The pre-work modules provide students with a technical overview of the architecture and functions of the Polycom RealPresence Platform. RealPresence Platform: Installation, Configuration & Troubleshooting: Level 2 RealPresence Platform Overview These modules provide a review of the RealPresence Platform using case studies to show how components may be combined to meet customer requirements along with basic troubleshooting tools and techniques that may be employed. Building a RealPresence Platform solution Cascading vs. DMA Recording and replaying video content Design scenarios Troubleshooting tools Troubleshooting network connectivity The student will be able to design a simple conceptual solution based around the RealPresence Platform to meet specified requirements Endpoints Overview These modules are designed to provide hands-on use of the Polycom Group Series, HDX and RealPresence Desktop video endpoint solutions. Basic endpoint troubleshooting tools and techniques will also be covered. HDX and RealPresence Desktop endpoint configuration and settings Group Series video solution Group Series web interface and software update process Remote management using the HDX browser interface Gatekeeper registration Dialling using E.164 aliases HDX profiles Dial plan case study Default HDX security Hardware reset techniques and out of box configuration Group Series Polycom Field Diagnostics Gathering logs and CDRs from the Group Series, HDX and RealPresence Desktop Students will be able to deploy and configure Polycom endpoints to operate with and without a gatekeeper. They will also be able to perform a hardware reset. Students will be able to gather basic troubleshooting information for the Group Series, HDX and RealPresence Desktop video endpoints. Universal Video Collaboration These modules cover the deployment, configuration, administration, management, and basic troubleshooting of the RMX universal video collaboration platform. Finding available documentation Out of box configuration Installing and using the RMX Manager application Configuration of Internet Explorer to support RMX management Configuration of users for RMX management Backing up and restoring configuration Downloading and installing software updates Configuring IVR and entry queues Configuring conference profiles and templates Monitoring on-going conferences and participants Managing and troubleshooting on-going conferences and participants RMX Address Book SUPPORT user and Diagnostics Mode System alerts, faults list, CDR utility, logger diagnostics files and information collector Factory restore options Students will be able to reset, deploy and configure an RMX out of box to meet the requirements of a small to medium deployment. Virtualization Management This module describes the way that DMA improves reliability and reduces network traffic in an H.323 video environment using multiple RMXs. Call server capabilities and configuration Network topology configuration Endpoints and MCUs list Conference Manager capabilities and configuration MCU, MCU Pools and MCU Pool Orders configuration Conference templates Making a call into a DMA conference room Gathering troubleshooting information Interpreting the ARQ Registration history, call history and conference history reports Restart and shutdown the DMA system Download backup files and upgrade the DMA system software Students will be able to reset, deploy and configure a DMA out of box, including integration with Active Directory and RMXs. Students will also be able to use various DMA tools to assist in the troubleshooting process, including gatekeeper messages, registration history, call history and conference history reports. Video Resource Management These modules cover the deployment, configuration, administration, management, and basic troubleshooting of the Resource Manager system. This includes device management, conference scheduling, conference management and Active Directory integration. Enterprise Video Capture These modules cover the deployment, configuration, administration, management, and basic troubleshooting of the RSS 4000 system and demonstrate how it can be used to record and replay conferences and meetings. Students will integrate the RSS with an RMX to show how recording may be configured using conference profiles. Students will also gather basic troubleshooting information, access the RSS via telnet and perform a backup of the system configuration. Universal Access & Security This module describes the way that the RealPresence Access Director (RPAD) manages video and audio traffic that flows internally and externally within the defined network topology. Students will explore key settings and analyze a customer implementation scenario. RPAD feature set and reference architecture Mandatory and optional RealPresence platform integration Firewall deployment scenarios RPAD deployment steps GUI navigation RPAD use case discussion Students will be able to demonstrate the way in which the VBP manage network traffic between endpoints both internal and external to the network infrastructure. CloudAXIS Suite Overview This module describes the CloudAXIS Suite, which is a first-of-its-kind video collaboration and conferencing software solution. Students will explore key components and analyze a customer implementation scenario.
