AREAS OF EXPERTISE Health Education and Training Leadership and Management Clinical Practice Management Development and Implementation of Healthcare Policy EDUCATION Doctorate of Nursing Practice October 2011 Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing Case Western Reserve University Cleveland, OH Master of Science in Nursing 1992 Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing Case Western Reserve University Cleveland, OH Bachelor of Science in Nursing Columbia University New York, NY Bachelor of Science in English as a Second Language New York University New York, NY PROFESSIONAL and TEACHING EXPERIENCE Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing Women, Children, Family Health Science Department, College of Nursing, University of Illinois at Chicago, 2014 Nurse Educator Human Resource for Health (HRH) 2013-2014 Rwandan School of Nursing and Midwifery (RSNM) University of Rwanda Worked through HRH in Rwamagana, Rwanda with Rwandan and American midwives to develop a Bachelors of Science (BSN) with Midwifery Honors. Given Rwanda s high infant mortality and morbidity rates, we sought to teach evidence based care as an approach to maternal child health. Upon arrival, the midwives had one month to write the BSN curriculum, prepare courses, conduct research for the courses, and design a midwifery program for students taking classes in their third language. Working in Rwanda was the apex of my career; never before had I been in a position to use all my skills, clinical experience, and teaching background. Advisor to the Director of RSNM 2012-2013 RSNM University of Rwanda Senior Nurse-Midwife Mentor and Educator 2009 July 2011 Women s and Children s Service Line Bokamoso Private Hospital Gaborone, Botswana, Africa Established orientation and quality assurance programs for midwives in labor and delivery unit. Functioned as educator/preceptor to ensure standard of care for normal labor, birth, and early post-partum care for mother and baby. Presided over midwifery workshops in suturing, doula care in labor and delivery, kangaroo care for full-term newborns, and group prenatal care. Developed and introduced group prenatal care (Centering Pregnancy) for the Outpatient Department for the first time in Southern Africa. Wrote and developed midwifery service line protocols for antepartum, intrapartum, and post-partum care for healthy women. 1

Guided/mentored the development of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) including patient billing. Director and Assistant Professor Midwifery Division 2002 2009 Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Chapel Hill, NC Developed midwifery service into a division of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology covering full scope midwifery care, building collaborative physician relationships, and developing healthcare policy in maternal and child health. Provided teaching skills for medical, nursing, and midwifery students, interns and residents. Actively participated in Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS) and in collaboration with the Center for Women s Health Research at UNC developed the Global Mother Friendly Initiative (GMFI). The GMFI is now one of the prominent standards of care for women and babies in labor and birth throughout the world. Developed, staffed and managed an outpatient clinic for the care of underserved populations in North Carolina. Clinical Instructor 2002 2009 East Carolina University College of Nursing Greenville, NC Clinically precepted midwifery students in antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum midwifery care. Director and Assistant Professor Midwifery Division 1996 2002 Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology State University of New York (SUNY) Stony Brook School of Medicine Stony Brook, NY Established the first hospital-based nurse-midwifery service in the Medical Center in Stony Brook, New York, Suffolk County.
