Overview Introduction Config Converter is a required utility for system migration from NVR 2.3 server to 3.0 server. The purpose of this utility is to assist you to transfer previous NVR 2.3 server settings to NVR 3.0 server with the least effort. NVR 2.3 server system backup is not compatible with NVR 3.0 server, since NVR 3.0 server is designed in a different system structure to be enhanced with greater functionality and flexibility. With the help of Config Converter, you may generate a NVR 2.3 server system settings backup, which is also applicable to 3.0 server. You may later on restore your previous server settings on NVR 3.0 server with this file. NVR 2.3 Server Use Config Converter to create a backup of NVR 2.3 server settings. backup.xml Config Converter NVR 3.0 Server On NVR 3.0 server, restore the NVR server 2.3 settings with the backup file. 4
Operating System Supported Config Converter works with windows-based PCs for both 32 bit and 64 bit systems. The versions supported are listed as below. Specifications Config Converter exports device and system properties of NVR 2.3 server into NVR 3.0 server compatible backup format. The following table displays the supported properties being converted, their original settings paths on NVR 2.3 server, and the corresponding settings paths on NVR 3.0 server after restoration. Please note that the conversions of following properties are not supported due to different NVR system architectures: Joystick settings, License and View settings. Therefore, on NVR 3.0 server, you will have to (1) configure the Joystick properties, (2) customize the Views and (3) activate additional NVR 3.0 license key if your required channels are over 16. Start Up Preparatory Notice 1. There are two normal migration conditions regarding where the NVR server is installed, which require different procedures to manage the migration: (1) NVR 3.0 server is to be installed on a different server computer. (2) NVR 3.0 server is to be installed on the same server computer where NVR 2.3 server locates. If your condition fits the second migration plan, please be aware that NVR 2.3 server and NVR 3.0 server cannot exist on the same computer due to system conflict. Please follow the instructions on detailed migration process narrated in this document - ACTi NVR 3.0 System Administrator s Manual, which you may obtain from ACTi corporate website: http:///product/category/video_management_system 2. Please make sure your NVR 2.3 server has been upgraded to V2.3.03 version or later before executing Config Converter. 7
Step One: Create the Backup from NVR 2.3 server From a client computer or server computer: 1. Unzip the compressed application package. 2. Execute the application ConfigConverter.exe. 3. On Config Converter main screen, fill in the following fields: Server IP: NVR 2.3 server IP Address (without the port number). You don t need to change the default (local) if connecting from server computer. User ID: NVR user account Password: NVR user password 4. Click the Browse button to select a location to save the backup file. 1 2 3 5. When backup is created, you will be prompted to confirm it. Click OK, the backup file has been saved as backup.xml to chosen location. 8
Step Two: Restore the Settings on NVR 3.0 server After the file backup.xml is created, be sure to save it to a storage location that NVR 3.0 server client can browse. From a client computer or server computer: 1. Login NVR 3.0 server (via either web client or workstation), go to Setup page System tab Backup/Restore section, click Browse to locate the file backup.xml, and click Restore. 2. You will be logged out to complete the restoration. As you login again, the settings of NVR 2.3 server are applied by NVR 3.0 server. 9
