Education Officer: Children s Ministry Grade / Salary: Diocesan Pay Scale 4.1 4.3 ( 26,833-32,043) Hours of work: Full-time - 35 hours per week Normal place of work: Education Department, Church House, Manchester M3 2GH Purpose Reflecting the concluding calls to action of the national policy document, Going for Growth, the aim of the Manchester Diocesan Education Officer for Children s Ministry is to offer professional support and development to those working with children in the name of the Church, so that they are aware of, and are encouraged to demonstrate, best practice in Children s Ministry. Accountability As a member of staff employed by the Diocesan Board of Finance working within the Education Department, the post holder is accountable to the Diocesan Director of Education. Key Tasks To achieve the purposes of the role, the Officer pursues the following objectives and activities: Promote the growth of Children s Ministry in parishes Provide support and development to parishes and schools on specific Children s Ministry issues as requested
Promote specific diocesan initiatives, including Messy Church, the Admission of Baptised to Children to Holy Communion, and the use of the Child Friendly Church criteria, Promote and administer the Bishop s Certificate in Children s Ministry, Level 1, and administer, deliver, moderate and mark the Bishop s Certificate in Children s Ministry, Levels 2 and 3 Arrange and promote occasional training events on specific Children s Ministry issues, and collaborate ecumenically on regional training events Engage in debate with clergy and others regarding the impact of schools faith-based admission criteria on parish ministry Partner with the Diocesan Department for Mission and Ministry in contributing to the regional ministry training programme Partner with the Diocesan Department for Mission and Ministry in promoting, administering, moderating and delivering the Diocesan Authorised Lay Ministry: Children s Ministry Elective Update diocesan resources for Children s Ministry to represent the range currently available Inform parish Children s Ministry contacts of resources, training and other Children s Ministry issues via regular electronic mailings and inserts to clergy mailing Maintain a current understanding of best practice through continuing professional development, including: research; active membership of the national and regional networks of Church of England Diocesan Advisers; and participation in the local ecumenical network of children s and youth officers In association with the Education Officer: Youth Work: Contribute to the Church of England s mission to children in schools by leading worship in schools and parishes by accepted invitation Lead, promote and contribute to Departmental set-piece services and events such as the Year 6 Leavers Services; the Schools Conference; and the headteachers Cathedral services Implement the operational aspects of the safeguarding of children and contribute, through membership, to the Diocesan Child Protection Management Group.
Salary and Conditions The post is available to clergy and lay: the post is only available on layworkers terms and conditions. The salary will be 26,833-32,043 The post holder can join the Church Workers Pension Fund Pension Builder Classic (Defined Contributions Pension Scheme). The post is 35 hours a week. This would include some evening and weekend work.
