RedPrairie Transportation Management

All your global and local transport needs on one easy-to-use platform Whether your world involves orchestrating shipments across complex global supply and demand networks, or simply delivering goods to local customers, or anything in between, RedPrairie s Transportation Management offers all of the tools you need on a single, integrated platform. This highly configurable, Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) based solution is both comprehensive and easy to use. Covering global and domestic shipping, parcel execution and fleet operations, Transportation Management offers a new level of sophistication, cost reduction and visibility for all your transport needs. Which isn t surprising, since RedPrairie has been meeting the transportation management needs of the world s best companies for over 30 years. So whether you ship domestically, internationally, or intra-europe by ocean, rail, air, parcel, short-sea, common carrier or your own fleet, Transportation Management will optimize your shipments and freight settlement, provide global visibility and event management, and display results with graphical performance management analysis. All of this is delivered on a single, state-of-the-art technology platform, although you can choose to purchase and deploy only the components needed for your operations. But RedPrairie realizes state-of-the-art means more than comprehensive functionality, a services oriented architecture, and web deployment. It means systems that are intuitive, graphical and simple to configure systems that make transportation management easier, more visible, and highly adaptive, not just more efficient. That s the extra value of RedPrairie Transportation Management. PLS s success has been based on providing our clients access to the best supply chain and transportation management technologies in the market. After months of evaluation, we recognized that RedPrairie s Transportation tools, specifically the optimization engine, were superior to other tools available. Robert J. Dunn President, Pittsburgh Logistics Systems, Inc. 2

RedPrairie Transportation Management provides comprehensive, multi-modal functionality from procurement through settlement. Offered for either on-premise or hosted deployment, and combined with RedPrairie s expert services, it is your one-stop source for all of your transportation needs. > Pre-defined templates > Integrated rate downloads > Bid optimization > Comprehensive scenario analysis Procurement Gaining the greatest value from your transportation spend starts long before you have a load to route or a shipment to tender. It begins with getting the best possible rates for your lanes through a structured procurement process. RedPrairie Procurement functionality allows you to take a strategic approach to procurement that is more efficient, faster and produces better results while building improved relations with carriers. RedPrairie Procurement provides pre-defined templates for truckload (TL), less-than-truckload (LTL) and ocean carrier bids together with an integrated rate download function to populate the transportation execution database. The bid optimization functionality uses this information to determine the best carrier options for each lane while enabling you to model multiple transportation scenarios to reach the best overall approach for your business requirements. > All modes, including fleet and parcel > Americas, International, intra-europe > Global Trade Management > Continuous planning > Inbound and outbound > Local and long-haul routing > Pre-booked capacity > Rate shopping > Optimal carrier assignment Planning RedPrairie s Transportation Management system (TMS) is the only TMS that allows you to plan the most cost efficient shipments across all modes, including parcel and fleet movements, in a single optimization engine. This enables you to take advantage of least cost options not visible to standalone TMS, fleet or parcel systems. In addition, this advanced planning engine supports continuous planning so the inevitable changes that pop up every day don t force you to make manual plan corrections or settle for less than optimal loads. Transportation Management handles all of the intricacies of planning shipments domestically, internationally, or intra-europe. Its integrated Global Trade Management functionality ensures compliance with international trade regulations, including duties, tariffs and denied party screening. This enables you to make intelligent sourcing and shipment decisions based on fully landed costs. Transportation Management can jointly plan inbound and outbound shipments, allowing you to minimize empty miles and reduce rates through consolidated routing. The planning engine optimizes simultaneous use of private or dedicated fleets with market carriers, including consideration for pre-booked capacity, equipment constraints and carrier performance. Route planning supports predefined routing guides and pre-booked capacity so you can model use of private or dedicated fleets with static or dynamic route options in conjunction with market carriers to determine the 3

optimal mix for cost and service. Automated border crossings can also be factored into route planning. Unused capacity can be carried over between optimization runs to determine whether an underutilized load should be held for more freight or if the load needs to be shipped as is to meet delivery windows. The system can also determine if freight could be held at pool points or consolidation facilities to leverage pre-booked capacity, or if using market carriers will be necessary to meet commitments. The system optimally selects and assigns carriers based on rates, modes, pre-booked capacity, constraints, performance and other contractual requirements. Maximizing utilization of private or dedicated fleets can be factored into carrier selection. > All modes, including fleet and parcel > Re-optimization based on events and status changes > Load tender and response > Appointment and dock scheduling > Parcel shipment manifesting and labeling > Status updates and visibility > Track & trace > International documentation > Event management > Fleet routing and monitoring Execution Since the optimization engine incorporates into load planning actual events and status changes as they occur, planning and execution can be thought of as an iterative process. In this section we will focus on how shipment plans are executed across all modes. Once a load is planned, Transportation Management tenders the load to the assigned carrier or carriers and accepts response through EDI or web transactions. Changes in capacity or other constraints may require further rate shopping and carrier selection through the iterative optimization engine. This ensures optimal plan execution. Dock scheduling and load pick-up appointments can be scheduled online, as can delivery appointments with customers. The carrier can enter status updates during transit to provide complete visibility to shippers and customers of every step of multi-leg journeys, which might include any combination of ocean, air, rail and truck. This visibility enables near real-time track and trace of shipments across extended supply networks. Transportation Management also creates and prints international shipment documentation, as well as parcel shipment manifests and labels. Builtin event management capabilities alert users to disruptions in shipment movements so adjustments can be made, alternatives planned, and customers alerted. 4 Long-haul shipment planning and execution combined with local fleet routing and tracking ensures efficiency and visibility down to the last mile. Fleet Management optimizes daily routing and scheduling of private and dedicated fleets. Load balancing and stop assignments ensure efficient capacity utilization, making it possible to serve more customers each day and potentially reducing the number of vehicles in operation. Optimal routes are based on operational, customer and road network constraints, reducing drive time and trip distance while meeting customer service requirements. In-transit routes and performance can be monitored by GPS and/or in-vehicle monitoring devices for the ultimate in tracking and control.

> Match & pay > Self-invoicing > Client billing consignment based > Margin analysis Freight Settlement Once freight is delivered, accurately and efficiently settling payment is of paramount importance. Transportation Management allows shippers to automate carrier settlement through match and pay or self-invoicing. In match & pay, the system compares invoices to executed shipments to either issue payments or flag exceptions for investigation. Self-invoicing allows payment based on shipment records without carrier invoices. Both approaches reduce the time and costs of settlement while ensuring accurate payment for actual shipments executed. For logistics service providers and other third party shipments, the system automates client billing on a consignment basis and tracks all costs for detailed margin analysis. This enables easy identification of profitable and unprofitable customers, lanes and loads. > Connecting shippers, suppliers, customers, carriers, stores > Visibility, tendering, scheduling, updates, track & trace > Web-based business Web-based Collaboration In today s internet-centric world, there is no reason not to have complete visibility and communications between all interested parties in transport operations. You should not only know where your shipment is at any time, you should also be able to interact with all parties to set appointments, overcome obstacles, and verify receipt. RedPrairie s web-based communication portal connects shippers, suppliers, carriers, customers, stores and remote sites to provide both visibility and interaction between all participants. It facilitates actions such as load tendering and response, status updates, appointment scheduling, track & trace, and delivery receipt. For vendors and suppliers, the portal supports both inbound shipment routing requests for consignee-controlled freight, and advance ship notices on vendor-prepaid inbounds. It provides robust validation, location profiles, alerts and automated communications to and from inbound suppliers. Stores can use the portal for detailed visibility to inbound shipments, to initiate stock transfers between stores and to arrange stock return shipments. Customers are able to route and track their inbound shipments, schedule delivery appointments, and confirm receipt. With all of this functionality available online, RedPrairie s web-based communication portal is the single source for transacting business within the transport community. 5

> Best practice metrics > User-defined metrics > Pre-built analytics > Graphical displays > Integration with in-house BI tools Performance Management Now that the entire transport process is automated and online, performance management should become a natural byproduct of doing business. The data is all there, what is needed are the tools to analyze, interpret and present the information in easily understood displays. RedPrairie s Performance Management system uses best-practice and userdefined metrics to populate analytics engines with detailed transportation data to create accurate, timely and meaningful information to improve decision-making. The system employs pre-built analytics to help you make sense of the data and displays the results in configurable graphical displays. > Common look & feel > Highly configurable screens and processing > What is displayed, where it s displayed, colors and labels > Mathematical functions > Graphical displays > Consistent across all RedPrairie systems Ease of Use Although transport operations is a complex field, using a transportation management system should not be. Users should demand the same simple look and feel they have come to expect from all web applications, whether they are accessing the system directly or over the internet. Transportation Management provides this access-independent common look and feel across functions and access methods. Information is displayed in graphical, highly configurable formats. End users can change what is displayed for their needs, in what order, along with the colors and field labels used. Mathematical functions and processing flow can also be configured. Yet most day-to-day processes can be conducted from a single screen that provides complete operational functionality. And this configurable look and feel is consistent across all RedPrairie systems. RedPrairie s optimization tool allows us to make decisions faster and gives us more control over our work. It s also enabled us to centralize our planning and standardize our business practices. This has resulted in improved competitive positioning and increased customer satisfaction. The system is worth millions to us. Paul Snider Director of Transportation and Commercial Customer Logistics, Georgia-Pacific 6
