By the time I left Somerset, I limited my practice to criminal defense in the state and federal courts. In 2005, I left that very successful private practice to take a position with the Minnesota Public Defender system and in 2008 left that position to form the consulting company that I now run. Upon moving back to Kentucky in 2008, I ve continued to run Persuasion Consultants and handle private criminal defense matters. April 1, 2010 will see the opening of the law firm of Stanziano & Catron which will have offices in Somerset and Columbia, Kentucky. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree (Economics) from the Ohio State University (1979) and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Louisville (1982). I am a past-president (1998-1999), and a Life Member, of the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (KACDL), and I continue to serve on the Board of Directors. I am also a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL). For my contributions to the practice of criminal defense law in Kentucky, I was awarded the Frank E. Haddad, Jr. Award, by the KACDL, in 2000. This award is the KACDL s highest honor and I am the organization s youngest recipient of this prestigious award. I serve as a faculty member at the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy's Litigation Persuasion Institute and the National Defender Association s Defender Advocacy Institute. Additionally, I have served on the faculty of several other state public defender trial advocacy institutes over the years (Indiana, West Virginia, Nevada, and Minnesota). 1

I have been and continue to be trial counsel in a number of high profile, as well as death penalty or other homicide, cases throughout Kentucky and various cases of intense local interest in the Lake Cumberland Region of south-central Kentucky.. I am a disciple of Herb Stern's "Trying Cases to Win" trial methodology, a student of the life and career of the great Earl Rogers, and a fan of the greatest criminal law hacks in literary history, Perry Mason (whose character was modelled after Rogers) and Horace Rumpole.
