Short introduction to Parts-in-ody counterbalance valves Counterbalance valves are hydraulic valves designed specifically to hold and control negative or gravitational loads. hey are meant to serve all those applications that involve the control of suspended loads, such as mechanical joints, lifting applications, extensible movable bridge, winches, etc. Valve with integrated anti-shock he main functionalities of counterbalance valves are lowering speed control and stationary load holding. hese type of valves are managed by pilot pressure taken from the actuator s opposite supply (supply pressure). Valve with pilot dampening he Parts-in-ody counterbalance valves architecture is characterized by internal movable parts sliding directly inside the manifold, allowing direct installation onto the hydraulic actuators: line-mounting or flange-mounting. Parts-in-ody counterbalance valves are an alternative solution to the cartridge type, as their design allows direct mounting on the application. Valve pre-arranged for load limiting device connection port Further to its simple installation, Parts-in-ody counterbalance valves allow to obtain specialized valves: valves which are able to optimize their functionality in particular situations or working conditions, as they can be equipped with additional features. Short introduction to load lowering control valves (ISO86) ccording the European Standard for Earth moving machinery - Safety requirements (EN 7), when an excavator or a backhoe loader is used to handle loads with a mass bigger than 000 kg, or with a momentum force above 0.000 Nm, the carrying cylinders have to be equipped with control devices capable of preventing the effects of a possible hose failure. When excavators and backhoes are used to lift heavy weights, any carrying circuit malfunction or breakdown could be a threat for the operator and those in the vicinity. his risk can be reduced by installing in the hydraulic circuit boom lowering control devices, these are capable of preventing an uncontrolled descent of the load in case of hose failure on carrying circuits. For this kind of application, the suitable valves must be able to withstand the requirements indicated by the international standard ISO 86 (Earth-oving achinery - Hydraulic Excavator and ackhoe Loader oom-lowering Control Device - Requirements and ests), which states the testing procedures and the evaluation criteria for both excavators and backhoes mounting boom lowering valves. Counterbalance valves installation (manual operated DCV) ccording to the type of circuit: joystic oprated or manual operated DCVs, two different type of valves are used: Load Lowering Control devices LHD-Y series; Joystick pressure operated Counterbalance valves LHD- series; self piloted by the actuator supply line. oom lowering valves installation (joystick operated DCV) 5

Short introduction to Flow Sensing valves, e.g. NVD NVD is a highly innovative valve (Directional Control Valve), which paves the way into the world of proportional valves. NVD technology (patented) impressively links constructive simplicity and high functional performance; a simple and compact design, typical of the more traditional open-centre directional valves, it is associated with an extremely precise control, independent from the loading conditions and simultaneous movements. he Flow Sensing principle is efficient if electrically operated. It reaches its maximum potential when used in combination with radio control or electronic control devices. he Flow Sensing principle is based on the equilibrium between the oil flow and the electro-proportional actuation forces, so this direct feedback makes the flow control independent from the simultaneous loads. Short introduction to Electro-proportional Load Sensing directional control valves, e.g. NVS NVS is a compact Load Sensing, electro-proportional actuated, directional control valve; designed to control a maximum flow of 0 L/min. Its architecture is based on the combination of SE 0 DCV cartridges screwed into aluminium bodies. NVS is designed for basic applications where the flow control isn t required under simultaneous movement. ypical applications for NVS are self propelled access platforms or small cranes. Some of their most interesting features are: the light weight, obtained as a result of the aluminium body and the possibility to integrate inside the inlet and end elements any type of valves in order to obtain an hydraulic integrated circuit. n interesting consequence of this type of control is that it isn t affecting the closed loop control of counterbalance valves. So NVD technology doesn t require special and sophisticated types of counterbalance valves. 6 7
